Even after omitting a few of the retaining pins that fix the body to the chassis and modifying the fixing under the seats to make withdrawing the black pins easier, removing the body will still involve pulling the door hinges apart (although A relatively small modification to the pins should make them easier to remove once a couple of parts are ordered).I reckon this lego set is the duck's guts. Any one who likes lego and/or Porsche is definately going to enjoy building this kit. You'll also need to pause a few days before the 'mating' step so you can fiddle with the transmission to see how it all works.

Apparently this Porsche is very hard to find, and I was lucky enough to get their only copy.Once home, I immediately dug in. My other boys became very curious and ran over to meet the new challenge. One of my sons is a real Lego fan, and he became my sidekick throughout the building adventure. We built the Porsche over the course of 10 days, with most of the hard work happening on the weekend days. It was a tremendous amount of fun, and we only just finished the car last night. The set is comprised of 4 different boxes, each filled with parts to build a particular phase of the car:-Box 1: Drivetrain-Box 2: Frame, floor, and interior-Box 3: Body (mostly rear)-Box 4: Body (mostly front)The final build is so detailed and so nice looking, you'll want to put it away in a glass case to showcase to all your guests.I do have two points of feedback for Lego to perhaps influence future Technic kits they make:-First, I found that box 1 contained many orange body parts that didn't come into play until phases 3 and 4 hit (boxes 3 and 4, respectively). In most cases, a phase of work equated to a single box of the same number, but for some reason box 1 broke the pattern, leaving you with the sensation that you missed steps.-Second, at the beginning of each phase, I found myself spending time to organize all of the parts by color into ziplock bags. It's very hard to later find what you're looking for if you don't do this, and I wondered why Lego itself didn't organize the parts that way as part of their packaging. The way it ships, there's a seemingly random organization of the parts. To conclude, I strongly recommend you give this set a try. You will have so much fun, much more fun that staring at some electronic screen or gadget for hours. Go for it!

An overall excellent kit
5 January 2018

I am a long time builder of Technic kits going back to the Technic Space Shuttle and could not wait to snag up this Porsche as soon as I found out about it. Overall the building experience was great and I liked the way that Lego chose to box this kit in four individual boxes and also included a great manual. Furthermore, I was glad to have a kit that was not finished before the fun wore out as smaller kits tend to get completed long before I wish they were. Many of the merits of this have been covered in detail and I will not go into them, but I did want to bring something that bothered me to Lego's attention. Many of the pieces tend to not have the finished appearance that I have come to enjoy from Lego products over the years. I do not recall a kit that had as many issues with sink marks/ejector marks and other various astetic issues (I understand that some of these are clearly defined and are more or less a part of the peice but this is not what I am referring to). On parts that are not exposed from the outside this is not as big of a deal, but what troubled me was the marks on parts that are plainly visible on the completed kit and even more so the differences in color on the orange parts. The photos I have attached show as best as I can with my cell phone the differences in color between parts on the hood as well as the roof (the center piece of the roof is more so due to lighting but in my second photo the far right piece is clearly a different color).I am a scale modeler, so I am likely more in tune to these things than the average builder, but for how great this kit is and for the expense of this kit I expected at the very least for the orange to match, as this is a very loud color (as it should be) and draws attention to the kit from afar.Overall I love this kit and would recommend it to any builder who wants a challenge and a project that won't end after only a couple hours of assembly. Great job Lego, and I hope to see more kits of this caliber in the future because I will be a guaranteed customer. But please pay a little more attention to quality control in your molding processes. Thank you.

Awesome unboxing, disappointing model
2 June 2018

First a little context is required: I've been a long-time Technic flagship builder, and loved or liked all of them. I have the Motorized Excavator, the Unimog, the Mobile Crane MK2, and the 4x4 Crawler. I got the Porsche as a giant LEGO Technic treat after a break from that sort of thing.PROS: GREAT packaging, cool gearbox function, lots of new, useful and recolored parts, more meaning in the model, very detailed for a Technic set.CONS: Most functions don't work well, lots of gaps in the paneling, nearly covered-up engine, almost zero playability joy. Here's what I think about the set:- The unboxing experience is just INCREDIBLE! Small little details are everywhere, including the type of cardboard it is made of, and how the flaps are folded. The inside of the box has a history of the 911s. Exclusive rims are shown off well. The instructions are good and have info on the LEGO model of the Porsche, but nearly nothing on the real one.- The building was fun for a mechanical person like me, but when it got to the extensive paneling I was a little dragged out. The "marriage" wasn't as magical as they made it seem, as it's not "body on frame", more like "frame-for-body on frame". Still, a nice detail.- The finished model looks impressive at first glace: "Man, this thing is big!" It doesn't take too long to see all the gaps and awkward angles though. The rear lights are square and ugly (same for almost the whole rear), the sides don't look very car-ish, the roof looks too low, and the front is full of holes. It just doesn't have that Porsche look. The interior is not impressing, as the paddle shifters are yellow, bulky, and square. Nice stickers in the right places however. I also liked the way the F/N/R stick is mounted.- Functions are the most disappointing. The steering is only accessible from the steering wheel (i.e, hard to get a grip on) and has a good bit of backlash. The suspension is too soft in the front. The gearbox either works OK in the wrong order, or bad in the right order. You can't really see the pistons. And the trunk opens only after "snapping" past some beams. Some features work very well: the shifters have a VERY nice feel to them, the doors are firm, the hood closes solidly - and in 2nd gear, rolling it around has a nice sound to it.It seems that Technic tried form before function for once. Didn't work out so well. Maybe it would have with better looks, but this set didn't make the cut for me.Now the CHIRON looks much better in my opinion - but still not as good as I think they can get. It also seems that its functions are better, minus the suspension (See Sariel's review on this one. He built the model for LEGO at the Chiron's debut and is a highly acclaimed Technic AFOL). If you're not particular about the car, then I would recommend spending the extra $50 for the Bugatti. You get more parts for your buck, too!So all in all, the Porsche is an OK display model, but it is not a play model. It isn't the best for getting parts either. Go spend your extra money somewhere else.

Blisters
27 July 2016

Building a massive technic model isn't always fun, I mean, pushing a cross axel through multiple technic beams isn't all that fun and sometimes they're not properly aligned so you end up either having blisters or leaving a mark on your table. That said, this was a very different experience and the end result is worth the blisters. The first thing different is the presentation. The box is very different to previous branded "technic" sets, like the 8145 in 2007 (Ferrari 599 GTB) or the 8461 from 2002 (BMW-Williams FW24 F1), in that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has artwork inside the box that shows the 911's evolution, and instead of just having a bunch of plastic bags, the plastic bags are split into different smaller boxes. So you open the box and you see 5 other boxes and the instruction manual that is high quality, 500 pages thick, and looks great on your coffee table (I had hoped the LEGO would make the instruction manual a hardcover but this will do). The box on the right side houses the exclusive GT3 RS wheels. Underneath the instruction manual is box #1, which has a picture of an engine on it; box #2 has a picture of a racing bucket seat; box #3 has a picture of the hood/bonnet; box #4 has a picture of the rear wing/spoiler. But that's not all, the whole building process has been modelled after the Porsche assembly line, so you start with the chassis, engine, gearbox, which is in box #1, then you move onto the interior and roll cage, then the body panels and the wheels. While you build, you can read on the development and building process of the real life GT3 RS. Apart from the above, this is like any other technic set, but if you love cars and or lego, this is a must have experience. I won't recommend any other sets because nothing else in the current LEGO lineup comes close.I would have given it 5 stars for play experience except I got blisters and this isn't really a set you harvest parts from.

Easily the best Technic car set on the market
8 December 2019

From the moment you open the box you can see an awful lot of thought and effort has gone into designing this set. The box is superbly designed with pictures of all the 911 models adorning the inside edge, the graphics on the inner boxes shows some of the detailing on the model and the way the Alloys are displayed shows they are uber proud of the desigtechnically designed set I've made. Having owned and built most if the Star Wars models I felt like a change and this was definitely the best choice. Great use of some different items to make lines and designs work on this, fantastic engineering mirroring the actual working parts of the real car, steering, suspension, engine, all amazingly recreated down to that of the distinct RS designed alloys. The instruction/Porsche design story book is fantastically laid out with some amazing photos of real design processes as well as that of the model itself. This is the most enjoyable set that really gets the brain working. Well worth the money, just contemplating if the Bugatti is worth trialling next!

Fun Build and a Beautiful Model
9 January 2020

After having a great experience building the Bugotti Technic set, and being thoroughly happy with all aspects of that model, I was looking at YouTube and saw the Porsche GT3 ST set which is also 1/8 scale. I wanted to relive the challenge and enjoyment of the Bugotti. Since the Porsche GT3 RS is retired, I ordered from another on-line retailer, and this set did not disappoint. It was a great experience putting this model together and noting the differences between the Porsche and Bugotti such as the paddle shifters versus the PDK system; as well as the different versions of the “marriage” phase of the build in both models. The instruction book contained great images and information about the Porsche, and it is also great to have two great 1/8 models on display. Great Technic set

My last Lego model I played was on the years 1985-1987.Once I saw this model on youtube.com – I said to myself I MUST HAVE IT!I think that the BOX is very impressing. The book is thick, and the build instruction are understandable maybe one or two stages are not very clear. It’s a great fun to build this model.I like the stages of construction.1. Basic chassis stage – you can see all the car from the base line2. The second part of the chassis that wears over the first3. Covering the car with the orange plastic parts - the car gets the final shape.4. additional small details to finish + wheels.Focus on details, makes this very fun to build.I took my time to build it, with my 6th year kid every day or too for 2H at a time.In this way I could ... MoreMy last Lego model I played was on the years 1985-1987.Once I saw this model on youtube.com – I said to myself I MUST HAVE IT!I think that the BOX is very impressing. And I must say that this is my favorite model.sure, the newest one has mor parts and details. but I feel that in this model there was a greater investment.I have many issues with the Bugatti model that maybe we will be review in its page.Great model. My next one will be the Land Rover , this is the Sports car for all times.

Lego Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056)
2 April 2022

(Retired) Lego 911 GT3 RS arrived neatly disassembled and sorted thanks to previous owner. The pieces, box and instructions was all in good near new condition. An excellent display set as it gets it's own top shelf bragging rights. The 42056 is a little hard to find at a good price due to its rarity, but those truly wanting to add it to their collection will find the right one if they are patient. I love how the orange stands out on this set, I love the matching 1:8 scale other models I have (building the Sian now) and I love that I had to move the furniture in my living room to give the display the attention it deserves.
