Lego Catamaran I did confirm above that this product is durable, entertaining and educational although I have not opened the package. It's a Christmas present for my little grandson. For fifty years I have been a faithful customer of Lego. Legos 'survived' my two sons, even , entertaining and educational! when our dog was somehow involved in the games. For this reason alone I can blindly certify that Legos are very durable. I am waiting now for Christmas when the little one will doubtlessly persuade his big brother to help him build the catamaran. I don't think he will need a lot of persuasion. During the past fifty years I never ever regretted a single purchase of Lego products!

I bought this as a birthday gift for myself a little while ago. I built it pretty quickly with my son and took it for a test float in the tub. Overall, I really loved the features of the set. The colors are bright and flashy, not much unlike real racing sailboats. The movable rudders, sails and keels on such a relatively small set are great to have. I typically get the really big Technic sets for their extra attention to detail, but was impressed with the level of detail packed into this relatively smaller set! The loss of a star is attributed solely to the fact that the hulls aren’t entirely waterproof. The boat was in the tub for just 10-15 mins, but I noticed that it was draining water when I took it out. Made me glad I didn’t try letting it float on the lake ... MoreI bought this as a birthday gift for myself a little while ago. Made me glad I didn’t try letting it float on the lake first...wouldn’t have enjoyed fishing it from the bottom. I understand the complaints some have voiced about it being hard to display, but I think it would actually be pretty easy to fashion a LEGO stand out of spare parts to lift the boat so it’s not sitting so precariously. I suppose it could have been built into the set, but then it would have cost another ~$10. In the end, I would recommend this set to others - just keep in mind that it will take on water during extended water excursions.

As a sailor and a Lego fan, I am super impressed with this model, especially when compared to the previous attempts at sailboats. First, the floating aspect is awesome. Finally it gives us a REAL hulls that floats! The amas are actually very modern, cutting edge even. Reverse plumb bow is amazing. Mast and sails are much more in ratio to real boats. The mechanics are really novel with adjustable centerboard heights and individual sail trim. I suspect the designer is the same as with previous sailboats and finally got to build what s/he wanted. The best part for me, and worst for some, is that it is designed to be FLOATED and not displayed. I can see a ton of new MOCs coming from the new pieces introduced in this set. It is not an advanced set but it is a great ... MoreAs a sailor and a Lego fan, I am super impressed with this model, especially when compared to the previous attempts at sailboats. How about a HARD sail for that boat. Lego lends itself to hard sails very nicely

I purchased this set for my son, who is 4 but has a basic idea of Lego’s. Now, that being said I purchased the yellow single hull boat when it was out and thought it was pretty cool. I was even more excited for a boat that would float. I feel it’s a bit misleading.Between the points where the steering fins attach to the boat there is an open hole. So if you were to play with this in a bath tub to any degree the hulls will take on water and sink. That’s my only gripe. Otherwise it was a cool build and can be displayed along with the other sailboat if you can build a cradle for it to sit on with the stabilizers tucked all the way in.Not disappointed, but not impressed. The other green speedboat released in the Lego city line takes on water too. Should’ve been one ... MoreI purchased this set for my son, who is 4 but has a basic idea of Lego’s. I was totally surprised and excited to finally get a seagoing technic set. Combined with some ingenuity and the proper parts this set x2 yielded a great though somewhat sluggish pond patroller. By itself with the bluetooth batmobile I had a really fun relatively quick differential steering catamaran. Lego dudes, please make me a bigger boat prop!!! Add it to a new series of technic speedboats if you have to. Great summertime fun!! I highly recommend this kit!
Lego-fanatic son loved this set. He was delighted as the discount was fantastic. It's been built, all the pieces were there and he's happy. One geeky point is that there are some issues if this is being bought to actually sail. However in this case perfect as a static model.
I purchased this set for my son so we could build it together, we were both pretty excited to finally open it only to find that one of the pontoons was missing...the pontoons are the largest pieces in the set and we only got one in the box!I've experienced missing pieces in sets plenty of times before and I'm generally OK with it, I get it, it can happen however this one takes the cake.I've ordered a replacement for missing piece and I do hope Lego do the right thing and send it as this piece alone costs over $50 AUD through their replacement parts service. That's more than I paid for the set itself.I'm sorry this has to be the first review I've left for a set, however this experience was terrible from a QA standpoint. It's the largest piece in the box!
Awesome set! Bought it to motorize and drive around our pool which it's perfect for. The only downside is the large green and blue pontoons are not waterproof. The green piece and blue piece are technically two separate pieces that come pre-snapped together and create a very small crack between the two pieces. Water will get into the crack and eventually cause the boat to sink. This is easily remedied with clear waterproof tape or something similar but I wasn't expecting this. The default model is also heavy enough that most of the pontoon pieces will be submerged. This allows for water to easily get into the large blue piece.Other than that, fantastic set but if you want it for actual water play, you'll have to modify it a bit.
I purchased this set for my son and I to build together during quarantine. We mostly like to display the sets and sometimes he'll play with them. This is one he was so excited to play with and it was a total flop. He hasn't taken a bath (he showers regularly) in a few years so we filled the bath tub and set the boat in. As he was playing with it, the boat quickly took on water and sunk completely. I suppose it is a good thing he learned how to empty the hulls of water but he quickly grew tired and bored since that had to happen.. The one thing supposed to keep it afloat made it sink, the result of a very poor design. These hulls should have been in bags when packaged. I realize they're large but ours were really scratched on all sides so it's a poor looking display ... MoreI purchased this set for my son and I to build together during quarantine. I really wish I could exchange it. $50 is way too much for this set.
It was a great build. Nice little mechanisms to control the sails, big meaty pontoons, however... the overall construction isn't very solid. The connections between the controls and sales is very bare bones and open. Nothing holding it in or together very well.. So if it is being used for play, you may want to modify the structure or replace certain connectors with more solid pieces. As is, it is a great display. Stands nice and tall, very colorful.
