I love this kit! It's a great build showing off the intriquate design work that can go into technic. Lego rate it as 8+ however I suspect it would be safer as a 9+ kit. Younger children could play with the assembled product but it's not really one for the under 5 to play with due to mechanism of the excavating arms. The arms feature wind-in action which is amazing to use so the kit can become a very good lesson in movement, leverage and the combination of geared systems.

When I saw pictures of this set, I thought it was neat but not something I wanted to buy. After some time, though, I decided to make the purchase and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this set. There are plenty of useful pieces, like four universal joints, two small linear actuators, some panel pieces and treads.The lack of a gearbox was disappointing at first, but the end result proved to be rather fun even without it.If you are new to technic, I think you will especially enjoy this set.

Technic construction sets are always a treat. This excavator looks the part and the rotating moving shovel is well designed and functional for digging and picking up. Will definitely recommend.
This is a very nice build, and I was really impressed by how highly detailed this is for a smaller technic build. Unlike some other previous excavators which are a bit skeletal this has very few panel gaps. The only issue I had was that the bucket has a bit of a limited range so you can’t use it to it’s full capacity when picking stuff up. Other than that I can’t fault it. It looks right at home next to modular buildings too!
It's actually a small thank you present for my boyfriend. £10 off the price was a bonus. He's a Lego Technic addict having built more complex Technic products. He said it's a very simple Technic product which would be suitable for beginners, but he's very curious how the Excavator works, especially the digger part. He hasn't started on the Excavator yet but is very pleased to have it added to his collection.
A good challenging build for kids and fun to play with. Build time is about 2-3 hours in total for kids and it has the added bonus of being a 2 in 1 set, so after the play of one design wears off they can tear it apart and build and play with the second desing. Would highly recommend to kids that like lego and looking for an extra challenge.
At first glance, I was not going to buy this set, just another excavator, but on closer inspection, noted that it was possibly minifig scale. The set was a fun build, not too complicated, but with plenty of Technic features. On completion, I did note that the cab was minifig scale, some small modifications and I was able to put a minifig in the cab. This adds to the playability in my opinion, maybe the designers could have considered this when designing the model. The completed model fits well in a city layout, this adds to the versatility of the model. It is not just a Technic model for display.
The set in general was great! I bought it because the mechanisms interested me and it had parts that I didn't have in my collection. The build took more attention to detail than I thought and the arm was more complex as well - both good things! It wasn't over quickly which makes it more enjoyable.However when adding a few pieces to the vehicle's body, there were several that didn't alight properly when placed beside eachother on one of the technic axles. The hole for the axle must be just a few degrees off. Noticeable only if you look closely. I wouldn't attribute this to the set itself, just some unfortunate mixing of parts.
