this set combines a lot of advanced functions and is enjoyable build, it's a shame my set has missing pieces and the build is halted. it seems like a a long axel was included by error instead of several shorter axes. this is my 2nd large set in a row that has had missing pieces, (the lion knight castle had 2 missing pieces as well). Lego should take a pause on releasing too many big sets socially those over priced licensed sets and ficus on QC. Until then I am taking a pause on purchasing more. what a dissapotment. same as previous customer.

LEGO strikes again - these sets aren't your traditional, old school LEGOs for little kids but instead are incredibly detailed models that have LOTS of pieces and LOTS of movement/mechanical connections - the blades not only turn with the included motor but also can tilt and whatnot with the movement of the control stick in the cockpit. As such, these are definitely for older kids - pre-teen and teenagers mostly, though could go a BIT younger based on the individual child and with more parental support in the build process. It's also something that adults might enjoy building themselves, so there's no high end on the age range! Presuming you don't lose any of the small pieces, this set will serve you well for YEARS to come.Given the detail, quality and number of pieces, this isn't the cheapest set, but it's still good value and a good buy given what you get for your money. I can certainly recommend it to those with kiddos in the right age range - or adults looking for something fun to do themselves!

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. This is by far the most impressive lego set my family has ever worked on! Wow! The box is huge and the the helicopter is so extremely detailed it is unbelievable. There are motorized functions that require batteries. The recommended age is 11 and up and I would definitely agree. my nine year old helped but I could easily see it being too complicated for a younger Lego fan. Very nice set and I plan to purchase another for a Christmas gift for my nephew.

The 'Lego Technic Airbus' build is really satisfying and when you reach the end and flip the 'on' switch and watch your creation spin both rotors, crank the rescue hook and extend the landing gear with all the internal workings, it's very impressive. If you love gears, you'll love this build as there are PLENTY hidden inside the cool exterior. The instructions are clear but like most Technic kits, there is some thought and spatial awareness required but this only adds to the challenge as if something doesn't seem quite right, you test yourself working out what step you didn't quite nail. For the piece count and the power functions, the price isn't too bad at all. The final build is a nice display and is especially impressive once the the power functions are in flight.
This kit is everything you would expect from a Technic Lego set. The Technic sets are recommended for ages 11 and up - and I think this is the correct age. These sets are very complex, and a younger child will not have the patience or the coordination to assemble it. That is the reason for the three stars about it being easy to assemble. To be fair, this set is not supposed to be easy - it's supposed to be a challenge. That being said, the instructions are very detailed, and the set will take many hours to build. I anticipate it taking 3-4 sessions of at least 2 hours each, as it is so complex. The box is beautiful - with pictures of the assembled helicopter on the front and several other views on the back. As usual, it has several different numbered bags of pieces, and the instructions tell you the order in which to open the bags. This makes assembly a little easier as you have a slightly limited number of pieces to wade through to find the right one. The book suggests putting all the same color blocks together, which is a good start, however you will also want to sort some of the smaller connectors out as there are different ones, different sized rods, etc. and it's important to get the right one. I find that using a muffin tin is helpful. I also use a cookie pan (with an edge) or a sheet pan to sort them.I am looking forward to starting this at Thanksgiving so I have the long weekend to work on it. If you have an older child (or adult like me) who enjoys Legos this will make an excellent gift. If you are new to Legos this might not be the set to start with, but in any case you get your money's worth. Legos are professional grade toys - you can't go wrong with them.
This thing is awesome but intense to build. My son who is 10 loves Legos and is pretty good at building the previous sets we have given him in the past. This is his first Technic set and it has given him some challenges to where my husband had to help him. I would keep this in mind if your child is age borderline before buying it. They will need a lot of patience. However, it has turned into a nice family project between my husband and my son. It was a great accomplishment for both of them when they finally finished it. Granted we are not huge Lego connoisseurs but this is probably one of the best Lego sets our family has ever put together.
This is an impressive helicopter. I didn't realize this was motorized until I opened the box. There are a lot of pieces to it but well worth the time. If you have a curious mind that likes to build then this is definitely a perfect present for them. All of these types of toys carry a very large price tag on them but this is definitely worth it. With directions showing step by step this is fun to do with someone. This is absolutely worth it and a very good quality set. If your reading this, I recommend you get this.
I have built a lot of Technic kits and this is one of the best yet. There's so many different mechanisms, gears and linkages crammed inside and the way the blades can twist and move is just like a real helicopter does, so it's educational without feeling like a "boring science toy!". The blades are motorised with a two speed gearbox so in the slow speed you can see the effects of the real cockpit controls as the blades rotate. With many many pieces and PU motor and battery box it also offers great value for what you get. It's a challenging build for a Lego model but only for a Lego model. Lego in general is much easier than most other buildable products and the instructions are piece by piece and very clear. Highly recommended.
At 2,001 pieces this is great kit for the aspiring tween/teen or adult who either loves aviation (like myself), wants to learn about the physics behind helicopter flight (pitch, yaw, and roll from the main and tail rotors), has built several 1k to 2k piece kits and looking for something more challenging, or who just enjoy the combination of mechanical and motor based movements in realistic lego models. You do not need a smart phone to operate the model, which is a plus to me. I will update this review with more photos after Christmas and once my nephew has a chance to put it through it's paces. After reading through the manual, I do not think this would be suitable for a child under 10 unless they have a fair amount of help or experience building similarly sized and ... There is an impressive level of detail and thought put into this set. I cannot imagine someone not being excited to receive this as a gift unless they don't like Legos or building things in general. Definitely worth the price given the amount of detail and it's realisticness.
My older son loves helicopters and I figured he would love building this. He's been working on it a little at a time and he's not completely done putting it together. However, it's so far turning out to be an amazing Lego set and project for him. The instructions are detailed and have been easy to follow. I love that the bags are marked according to stages. This technic set is amazing with the moving parts. I would use caution with the rotors around the face. The landing gear is an awesome touch. This is one of the Lego sets that takes a while to build which we have liked as it gives Dad a chance weasel is way in to getting to do some of it under the guise of wanted to spend time with his son.Overall, this is turning out to be a family effort and lots of fun building.
