What’s not to like? This is an amazing set . Takes a lot of time to build. You either love it or hate it. Amazing detail! Looks fantastic. The satisfaction of seeing the end result is greater than the time and effort it takes to build this! A bit on the pricey side, but on other hand Lego like this tends to gain value when it’s discontinued. So that’s a bonus. Just make sure all the pieces are there before you start building.

Lego is always wonderful. Building with LEGO bricks promotes spatial thinking and an awareness of proportions and patterns. When a child builds, his mind uses reasoning about which pieces will work best, how they should be arranged, and how big or small the creation should be. Basic LEGO bricks also teach fractions and division. From whole to half and even smaller parts, kids are learning fractions without even realizing it. Physics and engineering skills are also sneakily being developed. When a child builds a tall building or bridge he or she is learning to think in three dimensions, weight, balance and usage supports for these structures must be thought about. In more complex models, children can even learn notions of mechatronics and mechanics. When a child ... MoreLego is always wonderful. She has to figure out which blocks work best in her construction, sometimes using trial and error. Planning and organization are other benefits. Creativity is perhaps the most obvious benefit of learning with LEGO.

Great series! Amazing filling set! She would have played and played! The result of the assembly is such a beauty. We are fans with the whole family! The set has everything that Potteromans need. The Hogwarts building has been thoroughly worked out by Lego. The assembled model really resembles the original. There is also a place to roam inside. A lot of small details and magic items (brooms, cups, a burning fireplace, ice cream, etc.)

Ordered the Harry Potter Great Hall on December on Prime, hoping to receive it in time for Christmas. so just bear it in mind if you need Christmas delivery. However the product is great! The instructions are easy to follow and are labelled in 5 ordered bags inside. One side of the castle is completely open allowing little hands to play with the figures inside. There is no base with this product. I recommend you get one! Looks great when complete, and kept us busy for hours. see pics.
Best gift we bought for our niece last christmas. They love collecting lego pieces as well as the harry potter theme and this one is one of the best statement pieces on their collection!. They love building it and the details are well made off. Instructions are easy to follow even a younger one can build without any assistance. Bit expensive though for collectibles but really worth it. It is definitely fun not only for kids but for all ages. Really recommend the Lego brand!

The Great Hall set is the latest in line of Harry Potter sets I have built, and it certainly delivers on quality and detail. It comes with an abundance of minifgures, of which I found Neraly Headless Nick most impressive. Professor Quirrell minifigure also comes with a "Voldemort" face on the other side, which is a nice touch, and I found Professor McGonagall's facial expressions amusing. The children minifigures have short legs, but not moveable as they do in the Minifigure bag collection. The building experience is very good, it was particularly satisfying to build the exterior of the Great Hall. The finished result is beautiful. The finished result is beautiful. Other details I have enjoyed were the moving stairs, the house banners that can be changed, and the Mirror of Erised, which can be made to show any of the four scenes that appear in the book. This set was clearly designed by someone who not only had talent, but also a love for the Harry Potter story, as they've gone to great lengths to provide lovely detail that makes this set so enjoyable. On the negative side, I found Hagrid's minifigure difficult to place anywhere on the inside due to lack of space. It is also impossible to put anyone in a room with the Mirror of Erised, because of where it's placed and can't fit in any of the other rooms. I would have loved a flat brick on top of the fireplace just to keep it together, as without it it feels a bit precarious. I appreciate that the floating candles are hard to translate into LEGO, so the end solution with two black beams ended up looking a bit clunky, and the exposed pin in the centre doesn't look as great - maybe even transparent beams would help? The tower roof doesn't look as fantastic with the sloped brick leaning against the smooth round brick. But these are just little things among a lot of positives.Overall it's a great set that I am looking forward to building again, and pairing up with more HP sets.
Over all, the set is pretty good. However there are a few things I would change if I were designing it. The rooms in the tower all seem to be a waste of space to me. Both rooms in the tower kind of just have random magic things in them. LEGO could have made use of this space better by putting iconic rooms from Hogwarts here, which would make it more appealing to both kids and fans. The mirror of erised is also positioned a bit oddly. When you put a minifuigre in front of it, their face is litterly right up against it, which looks really weird. With my set, I moved the mirror of erised to where the other rooms are and got rid of one of the floors, so it would fit. The basalisk included looks a bit strange because it is black instead of green like it is in the movie ... MoreOver all, the set is pretty good. With my set, I moved the mirror of erised to where the other rooms are and got rid of one of the floors, so it would fit. The basalisk included looks a bit strange because it is black instead of green like it is in the movie and its shape is also a bit non-realistic. The next thing I changed with my set is the positioning of the flags, it was a bit odd that they weren't positioned over the house tables, so I moved them over so that they were. I also added the turrets coming off of the roof of the tower to make it look more like the real thing, however I don't think LEGO nessisarily needed to add this, it was just something I did to improve it. I enjoyed doing all these customizations, though and it makes mine unique. I like how you can combine all the different Hogwarts sets to make a larger Hogwarts at a cheaper price and with more features than the big one. The great hall its self looks pretty good and so does the exterior of the set. All the minifigures are pretty good, but the Dumbledore figure does not seem to be quite as good as the ones that have come out more recently. LEGO has seemed to improve how realistic their sets are with all the new waves of sets that have come out now, so I would recomend getting a different Harry Potter set over this one if you could only get one.
This set is awesome! I love the level of detail and the variety of characters! Also, this set is well-designed and STURDY. It is easily movable, and sturdy enough that pieces do not fall off. It's great to get the trio, Malfoy and the Hufflepuff girl in one set, along with all of the staff members (Richard Harris Dumbledore, Susan Bones and Nearly Headless Nick are great additions to the Potter minifigure lineup!I love that Lego has been releasing new, minor characters in the Harry Potter line, as it does with Star Wars. The big cauldron and potions and Mirror of Erised are nice details for a collector, but they are also large enough to be very playable. (on that note, the tower rooms are a little small (low ceilings!), but the great hall room itself is roomy and playable)The castle is relatively easy to build, and instantly recognizable - friends and family always comment on how it looks just like the movie!I would like to see more additions to this Hogwarts in addition to the Whomping Willow set. Hopefully we will get another connecting piece or two in 2019.The qualms I have with this set are (1) the lack of an alternative build and (2) the low celiengs in the tower rooms. This is a beautiful rendition of the great hall, but the unassembled pieces are great for any Hogwarts build. I would have loved to see what "honorable mention" design the creators would have picked for the alternative.I would have loved to be able to fit some of the great 2010-era Hogwarts furniture builds into the tower rooms (the gryffindor firepalce and library from set 4842, the fat lady from the original 4709 Hogwarts), but the celings in these rooms are too low to accomodate those. I have attached photos of a build that I was able to fit, if anyone else is looking for inspiration! House Point room (All pieces are from the current wave of HP sets)Overall I definitely recommend this set. It's great on its own or as a piece of the larger collection with the whomping willow.
I first have to start off by saying how happy I am that Lego has reintroduced a Harry Potter line. Secondly I have to say that I'm happy to see that the Lego has returned to releasing buildings/play sets for this line as opposed to the constant stream of vehicles with relatively little play set play value that we have seen from lines like Star Wars. Actual structures/buildings/etc. allow for Lego fans to actually use their imagination and set up scenes instead of just lining up a row of vehicles. This Hogwarts set is pretty good. Actual structures/buildings/etc. allow for Lego fans to actually use their imagination and set up scenes instead of just lining up a row of vehicles. This Hogwarts set is pretty good. Great hall is... well great! I do have a few issues though. First, the staircase that leads to Dumbledore's office is a nice callback to the old sets, but the office itself lacks a chair or room to stand any more than one figure. Some of the equipment could be done w/o in order to fit a chair/desk... also Fawkes the phoenix shouldn't be hidden behind the Mirror of Erised, but in his office. Secondly, the Mirror of Erised has a slot on the top of the tower w/o any space to put figures in front of it. The whole point of it is for it to be a mirror that shows the minifigures' desires and not being able to put the minifigures in front of it without removing it from the tower entirely and setting it on table/etc. defeats the purpose of having a dedicated space for the mirror. Thirdly, why have the basilisk? There is no Chamber of Secrets here or even a compartment to store the basilisk. Seeing as this seems to be a first year Hogwarts set (since it includes Professor Quirrell, Mirror of Erised, etc.) I think including the troll and turning the bottom level of the tower into a dungeon (and moving the staircase and Dumbledore's office up one level) would have been a much better choice. Overall the design is very nice, but from a practicality standpoint there are some things that don't make sense when it comes to the playability of it, and additionally there are just some things within the Harry Potter world that would have made much more sense instead of throwing a basilisk into the set, etc. I'll give it a 7.5/10. Not bad at all, but definitely could be improved on.
