I wouldn't call this a starter set, it would be very boring for a child/teen/adult/senior adult, to play with this alone. I suggest adding this to another city set. The value, durability, printing, is great as usual. Just pair it with another set, and you are good to go.

I think this set is very much worth while for a city layout or just for the parts and minifigures! The set itself is pretty basic but it has some nice features such as the printed 2x2 curved slope and the black flippers, but I think the main thing in my mind is that you get a 3 Fire Fighters and a Construction worker for just 10$! I know that LEGO reads these reviews before they go up so I'd kind of like an explanation for why the LEGO City "Battle Packs" are less expensive then the ones from Star Wars, Ninjago, and Minecraft? I'd also like to ask if there could please be packs based on classic themes like Space, Adventures, and Castle?

This set has lots of nice details. Even on the four minifigures there are lots of details including movable helmet screen, air tank for the diver, yellow life vest etc. I found the fire starter set very fun to build and offer good value for the money. In fact I try to build it slowly so I can enjoy the building process. Another nice touch is that the hovercraft comes with a turning steering wheel and propeller.One small disappointment is that when compare with the photo on the box, the diver is holding a black object in his hand which is not included in the set or listed in the instruction. I would also like to see a bigger and more colorful pier.This is my first City set and I have have lots of fun building it. Will certainly buy more City sets.

This is a good set becayse of the minifigures. The hovercraft and dock are not bad. The only bad thing is the minifigures. Don't get me wrong, the dock worker and regular firefighter are awesome. The scuba guy is ok but how many fire fighters do you see actualy driving boats and scuba diving unless you live on the coast? Other than that, this is a good starter set.
We got this for my kid (and me, too) and he absolutely loves the airboat. He played with it for approximately 3 hours straight, and the only time he put it down was when his mom pried it from his white knuckled hands in order to put him to bed.As for the dock, I'm really appreciative of it because while it's not big, it certainly caught me off guard to how useful the pieces can be in other potential builds, like putting it as an add on to a dock project that we have, or onto another boat (like what my kid did soon after.)The usefulness of the extra pieces comes in really handy while shopping for legos, and I hope sets like this are created by the set designers more often.
This arrived as a gift from a relative for "the fire service obsessed 5 year old". I managed to leave him alone with it whilst I did some housework (no really! I cleaned!) he came to me when he hit a snag.The hovercraft is good! The rest of the kit is a bit of a waste of space I'm afraid. The dock is too complicated, and for all that effort it doesn't do much, so now it is built he just ignores it. But it kept him happy for a while! And he built most of it himself, so in respect of confidence building the hovercraft was a win.
My son, loves everything Firefighter, and this set, while not blatantly obviously a firefighter set, was right up his alley. He was not as excited about the hovercraft as I had expected, and he really loved the dock worker, who he considers to be a "construction worker". But, the real coup of this set is the diver. This minifigure is fun, and set for all sorts of adventures.I like the dock, as when it's not being played with, it give a base to give a fun rescue scene for the other characters. I'm trying to get into the city sets, instead of the superheor sets that have a direct line to my heart, and this was a great way for me as a collector to get back into the City game.
The Lego Fire Starter Set isn't exactly what its name suggests. I went into this expecting to see a proper arson themed Lego set, but instead received a neat little set themed after fire fighters. In all seriousness, its a great addition to the city line as a means of acquiring some additional fire fighter minifigures. The associated builds may be small, but they add for great detail pieces that can be integrated into any existing Lego city.
