Lego is always wonderful. Building with LEGO bricks promotes spatial thinking and an awareness of proportions and patterns. When a child builds, his mind uses reasoning about which pieces will work best, how they should be arranged, and how big or small the creation should be. Basic LEGO bricks also teach fractions and division. From whole to half and even smaller parts, kids are learning fractions without even realizing it. Physics and engineering skills are also sneakily being developed. When a child builds a tall building or bridge he or she is learning to think in three dimensions, weight, balance and usage supports for these structures must be thought about. In more complex models, children can even learn notions of mechatronics and mechanics. When a child ... MoreLego is always wonderful. She has to figure out which blocks work best in her construction, sometimes using trial and error. Planning and organization are other benefits. Creativity is perhaps the most obvious benefit of learning with LEGO.

You can’t go wrong with Legos. In a day and age where kids are so consumed by electronics, I think legos are more important than ever. My kids love the sets but get the most use out of this basic set. They love being able to create and will do so for hours on end. Great for the kind, fine motor development, and both independent and cooperative play.

This is a perfect set for kids transitioning from Duplo Lego to the original legos! I got this as a gift for my 6 year old daughter and she loves it! The container is perfect too as you can add more legos to it. The whole thing is less than half of the container’s capacity. It comes with 2 instruction booklets. Booklet A and Booklet B. They are very easy to follow with large illustrations so kids can easily follow the step by step procedures. The overall quality is great! We love that the joints on the tractor are ratcheted and the camera lens spins too!! After you built all those available in the booklets, you will still have more pieces left to explore and experiment. We just look for more ideas on n lego website! This is definitely a great toy for your little ... MoreThis is a perfect set for kids transitioning from Duplo Lego to the original legos! Good classic LEGO set, no issues with the pieces, (and who really needs a review on a standard LEGO set? if you don’t know what LEGO looks like, I wish you warm greetings from us earthlings, and enjoy your stay.)But my review here is about the box: I liked it because it’s a cute shape, and has aesthetic appeal. And it’s slim and fits on my shelf without occupying too much space. The problem is that the smallest pieces (like the little dots, the eyes, the smallest size tiles, the single leg-like pieces, etc.) get stuck in the wells on the bottom of the box. Also, since it’s deep, the bottom of the box is hard to see in the light - you can’t really hunt for pieces effectively. So we basically end up emptying the aesthetic but impractical box every time we pull the set ... MoreGood classic LEGO set, no issues with the pieces, (and who really needs a review on a standard LEGO set? if you don’t know what LEGO looks like, I wish you warm greetings from us earthlings, and enjoy your stay.)But my review here is about the box: I liked it because it’s a cute shape, and has aesthetic appeal. Also, since it’s deep, the bottom of the box is hard to see in the light - you can’t really hunt for pieces effectively. So we basically end up emptying the aesthetic but impractical box every time we pull the set out, and that makes for messy play and annoying clean -up, plus added tension whenever have a baby over. And all this makes me more reluctant to pull it off the shelf. So, in short: Quality toy, great set, cute box, dumb box design.
The basic LEGO bricks are the most versatile tool for building walls, buildings, and other boxy shapes. Use more of them to make curved surfaces. This set also contains a few wheels and doors to give the builds utility. The most widely advertised sets are licensed kits for vehicles or robots that contain specialized plates, triangles, wings, and such. Those are great for the specific build, but not versatile. Also, the price per piece is higher for those licensed kits. If you want to build out your LEGO library, this is the economical way to go.
Got these for my youngest. He loves them work nicely to use to add to other sets. Also by themselves. He even has found uses beyond suggested ones. My favorite part as the parent probably is that they have a nice place to store away in. I hate that so many sets come in cardboard boxes that don't store them well for long. I even through some of those in zipper storage bags inside too! Also being cheaper here then other places I found is great.

First let me say that I love Legos, have all my life, and have gifted them to every one of my nephews, nieces, and friends' kids. That said, I unfortunately have to agree with most of the 2 & 3 star reviews here. This is not a "classic" Legos set.I still remember my first Lego set -- maybe 150 pieces, everything was either red or white, and few doors and windows, and a base plate. I *loved* that set, and I still have it, 50 years later. What was so great about it was that it mostly consisted of 2X8 and 2X6 bricks that let you do substantial sized constructions, limited only by your imagination. THAT was a -classic- Lego set.Today, by contrast nearly all Lego sets are "theme" based. What was so great about it was that it mostly consisted of 2X8 and 2X6 bricks that let you do substantial sized constructions, limited only by your imagination. THAT was a -classic- Lego set.Today, by contrast nearly all Lego sets are "theme" based. Some are connected with corporate franchises like Disney products, others are designed around a specific model -- like a rocket or a submarine. The problem with these, and with this "classic" Lego set is that the pieces are so specialized, once you build the intended model, there really isn't all that much more you can do with it. As "single use" kits these sets are price-prohibitive for many potential users. As a creative, entertaining, and EDUCATIONAL toy, we really don't need 75 different shapes and 35 different colors. What we need are kits with a substantial number of large bricks -- 2x8 is the classic size -- that encourage kids too use their *own imaginations* to create constructs. A set with 200 2x8 bricks, a good sized base-plate, and a few windows and doors is FAR superior to these 800 piece sets where most pieces are odd-shaped and no bigger than your fingernail.I have purchased several of these "classic" sets, but no longer. What I do now is go directly to the Lego website and order large quantities of 2x8 basic bricks, and make up my own classic Lego sets for gifts. No child that has gotten one of my "custom" sets has been disappointed, and most have continued to play with them well into their teens. Others may want to pursue this option.C'mon Lego, listen to your customers. Keep selling the themed sets if you must, but give is also a couple of *basic building sets* with a substantial number of *basic 2x8 bricks* and a few other essentials. Become once again the fine educational toy that you began as, and not so much the shill of the entertainment industry.
We got this set to add some base legos to our collection to make things outside of pre-made sets and to get a nice storage box for misc legos. And the selection is actually really good with a fair amount of unique and useful pieces along with basic bricks. My only tiny complaint is the small holes in the bottom of the bin, which things like bars and anything smaller than a 1x1 lego might fall through. So it may be wise to keep ultra tiny items and accessories in another smaller container.
