First of all, I'll admit that I'm by no means a car expert, however, I think that LEGO has captured the essence of the mini cooper very well; it's superbly sculpted with the smooth curves, the patterned seats, the grill and the lights and all the extra details, for example- the picnic basket, the gearshift, the engine and the spare tyre compartment are also great. I also think the stickers are worth mentioning as despite they're a pain to put on they do contribute a lot to the realism and authenticity of the model. Finally, the colour choices LEGO have made are excellent; the classic British racing green for this model looks awesome, the tan interior complements the outside very well and the silver metallic pieces were also a great decision in terms of the ... MoreFirst of all, I'll admit that I'm by no means a car expert, however, I think that LEGO has captured the essence of the mini cooper very well; it's superbly sculpted with the smooth curves, the patterned seats, the grill and the lights and all the extra details, for example- the picnic basket, the gearshift, the engine and the spare tyre compartment are also great. Finally, the colour choices LEGO have made are excellent; the classic British racing green for this model looks awesome, the tan interior complements the outside very well and the silver metallic pieces were also a great decision in terms of the aesthetics. The build was very enjoyable and some of the part uses are ingenious: the minifigure ice skates used to make the door handles and the shields used to make the lights were the best.Nevertheless, this set does have some minor flaws. For example, I appreciate the fact the mini steering wheel was big but I don't know if it's quite to scale- it touches the seat in it's resting position so how could someone sit down and actually steer this thing? Another aspect of the mini cooper I found slightly puzzling was the fact this model is built at a larger scale than the VW T1 campervan...eventhough it's quite empty inside. The T1 campervan interior is packed with cool details, but then again, I suppose this is a different kind of vehicle and model. Furthermore, the mini has limited playability as it's quite difficult to drive and it's not really suitable for minifigures -this is a display model. Finally, there are a lot of stickers in this model so you have to be really careful when putting them on-they're fairly important in adding to the mini cooper's authenticity and they're in quite conspicuous places so if you want your model to be perfect then make sure the stickers are applied correctly. To round things off, I definitely recommend this awesome model but primarily to slightly older and more experienced builders who will probably enjoy the build more and appreciate the model.

A fun model to build, but has a few tiny flaws

Overall I would say that this Mini Cooper model looks absolutely great once it is finished. It looks so sleek and sophisticated compared the the VW Camper Van.It took me about 5-6 hours to build the model, spread out over 3 days. With long builds like these I like to do a stage a day. So do all the bricks from number 1 bags on the first day, all the bricks from number 2 bags on the second day and so on and so forth. This is a great model, don't get me wrong, but there are a few bits that I think could be better. The steering wheel is too big and looks out of scale compared to the rest of the model. The usual lego fan's grievance with stickers reared it's ugly head again - lego managed printed bricks for some parts on this model, but for the mini cooper ... MoreOverall I would say that this Mini Cooper model looks absolutely great once it is finished. And I tried my best but I inevitably put them on wonky which is annoying.I also think the wheels and the wheel arches look oversized. It is probably just me, but I think they could do with being made a teeny bit smaller. But there are so many things to like about this model. The front area with the white stripes contrasting against the dark green looks stunning and the rear of the mini looks just like the real car. The interior seats look awesome as well and I like the little picnic basket, drink bottle and blanket included. Once I get a proper shelf to display the model, they will sit next to the car, but for now they are stored in the boot. And even though they are stickers, the British number plates look really really cool. I wish that British number plates could have been an option for the VW Camper Van. For the Mini Cooper model you get a choice of British, American, German, Danish or Australian number plates.Despite the flaws it is a great model and well worth the money.

The build itself is pretty solid and has some neat touches, especially the moving seats, the spare wheel under the false floor in the boot, the choice of number plates and that lovely replica of the A Series engine under the bonnet. Everything is nice and sturdy (except for the flimsy door mirrors) and feels like it would stand up to a bit of use. However, there are one or two issues I have with it. But these are overshadowed by those front and rear windscreen pieces which are simply too deep and spoil the look, especially the front windscreen which is clearly visible through the door openings. Yuck! I know losing a brick for what is really a cosmetic thing seems a bit much, but when you're spending £75 on a model with this level of detail, it's just too much of a mis-step to ignore.I'd recommend the build as it does look good, but I'd really like you to fix that window issue. Please!

An excellent interpretation of a classic car!

I lived in the UK in the mid 80s and rode in my roommate's silver Mini numerous times. Unlike the current Mini Coopers which are built like little tanks, the originals rode more like a Flintstones car made of tin. For someone used to the big American 70s cars riding in a Mini was an unnerving experience, at least initially. See this set brought back a lot of memories.I love this model! I bought it to build with my 9 yr old niece and we had a lot of fun. The English racing green with white stripes is perfect, as are the interior details of the checked seats, indoor side panels, tilting front seats and headrests, and rear boot with picnic basket and blanket., and hidden spare tire I wish the 'liquid' in the bottle were clear dark red or yellow for wine instead of ... MoreI lived in the UK in the mid 80s and rode in my roommate's silver Mini numerous times. I love the dashboard details and the engine, as well as the use of Lego ice skate blades (from hockey mini fig) for the door handles. However, getting those blades/handles on was quite tricky, at least for me - I finally stuck the blade in a bit of play doh to hold it upright while I pushed the flat 1 brick on it. Nothing else I tried worked for getting those two pieces together. I also think the model could use more room between the front seat and the steering wheel. (I tried to post a picture but the upload process was painfully slow.) It kind of ruins the realistic effect when the steering column is sitting flush on the front seat. IIRC the steering column in original Minis did tilt upright to allow the driver to slide in but this one has no room at all to move up and down, despite being hinged. The steering wheel does turn, however, which is nice. I would LOVE a TECHNIC version of the Mini with real steering action. My set was missing a silver piece so despite ordering early as a VIP, I wasn't able to finish until yesterday when the missing piece finally arrived. It was a bumper piece so I really couldn't complete the build without it. All in all a very well executed set with lots of playability and an engaging build. Bravo Lego!

Excellent for display

I had my eye on the Lego Mini Cooper for a while and was fortunate enough to receive it as a present, I was very excited to build it and display it as I've always liked classic mini coopers so it's cool to be able to build a Lego version. It took me about 3 hours to build and it was an enjoyable experience with some interesting building techniques, I thought the dark green bricks captured the look of the Mini Cooper perfectly and I loved the build for the seating in different shades of light brown which really gives it that retro look, the printed lines finish off the model well and gives it a very classy look. You can remove the roof and access the inside, there isn't really any playability to the set but this is meant to be a display model and would look great on a desk or corner shelf.Another thing which I'm a huge fan of is the picnic theme, you get a red and white picnic blanket, a buildable basket, bread, cheese and a glass of water. This is a really nice touch to finish this set off.I can't really think of any bad points about this set as it's a very solid and classy looking model of the Mini Cooper.Highly recommended!!

Fantastic Set

As a disclaimer to my raving ratings of the set, it is objectively tremendous however I am a bit biased due to being a huge fan of old cars and the mini.To begin with, the build itself is great and demonstrates the level of thought and detain in it, for example the way an extremely thin gap is constructed and maintained through the entire join of he door and rear body. The highlights of the build were the engine bay, front fascia and rear luggage compartment. The exterior proportions are pretty much spot on, and the completed model has a satisfying denseness and heft, with such a concentration of elements in a fairly compact package. The British racing green is the perfect colour for this car. Stickers are also used fairly sparingly, and the pinstripes down each side look excellent. The grille and bumpers are pretty tricky shapes but look awesome, adding to the realism, which can be summarised with the fact that excluding the light clusters and fuel cap, there are exactly four exposed studs. The interior of the mini is ridiculously detailed and realistic. The patterning on the seats looks awesome all the way around and the front two in particular are packed with detail. The dashboard is a triumph, and I love the new gauge elements. I suppose I could always hope for a specific vintage radio print or sticker but the element used is perfectly suitable. I also enjoyed having proper door trim, adding the right amount of thickness and proper proportions. My single fault in the model is the steering wheel being a touch too big, but in trying other steering wheel elements, it is doubtlessly the best. With the inclusion of luggage and so many functioning details this model is pretty versatile when it comes to play value, despite being aimed at a slightly older audience. The basket has a really cool assembly.I really cannot recommend this model highly enough, for anyone with a passing interest in cars, or lego collector pieces. It was the perfect way to get back into lego.

This was only my second lego build and I love it.My first two cars were minis so this set was a must. These folks that say it only took them 2hrs to build are either going on the next season of Lego Masters, work for Lego or are just lying!!I did this set over about 12hrs whilst not well wrapped up on the settee do I was taking my time, food breaks were in there and some telly watching in the background.Once I started the build I didnt want to stop and wanted to complete it in one hit.On to the next one now. VW camper or VW beetle.Only just found Lego as something of a distraction rather than being sat on my phone or watching mindnumbing telly. Loving it.

My Dream Car

Ever since I saw my first Mini at an antique car show, I was hooked. Then I notice that Lego has one in my favorite color? I had to build it.Overall a very nice build that most people could do in an afternoon. It is nice to see that the engine was mounted transversely. A detail some might overlook that gave the original Mini its massive cabin. Being able to set up a Lego picnic after a morning cruise is a nice touch that could have just as easily been forgotten. As for things forgotten, an actual spare tire has been replaced in many cars, but not this Mini. I also thought that, since I am an US citizen, my Mini should be left hand drive. The swap was very easily achieved even if the instructions told me to make it right hand drive.I do have a few nits to pick though. The front windshield, while acceptable as a model piece, has some slop that means the kids will get pushed away from this build. The roof has a few sharp angles that, while trademark Lego, might leave some hard core model builders passing this up. On the side of the body, some of the printed pin striping doesn't quite match up. Not enough to throw off the aesthetic, but enough to notice. To me, the most grievous omission is the cabin floor. The plates stop a stud away from the door. I took a few plates and filled them in and I know the old real life Minis were not luxury vehicles, but this seems like an oversight.Overall, this is a fantastic build. I think this would keep a teenager engaged for an afternoon and it give me a very enjoyable two hours. This will be proudly displayed on my bookshelf. Thank you Lego for a wonderful model.

Nice model, but incorrect parts also !

No question, the Mini model, is brilliant aesthetically speaking. The design is superb, the end product is stunning. No mini-figure supplied, but I guess this is more a model for display / collection rather than play (although I must say, you can play with it very easily: steering wheel, boots, doors open etc ...). I won't add pictures, as previous reviewers have already provided ample examples. The build isn't particularly complex (my 5 year old helped me built it: although 5, he does build a lot of Legos, virtually on a daily basis !, so he is very used to it, and apart from wheels he could pretty do everything in this model). The main reason for writing this review - and I must say this came as a surprise, as this is the first time I have had issues with a Lego ... MoreNo question, the Mini model, is brilliant aesthetically speaking. As with a previous review, I was also sent the wrong parts for both windscreens. The box contained 2 windscreens that looked like 4581989 (although I can't be 100% sure these were the ones sent), instead of the 2 x 6133615 mentioned in the instruction set (p.51 of booklet 1, and page 42 of booklet 2). Although the back windscreen isn't too much of a problem, the front windscreen doesn't look good at all, as it really is protruding: I quote a previous reviewer who summarised the issue very well: "The part [should be] 2 bricks deep at the bottom and only one row deep at the top. The ones you get are 3 rows deep at the bottom and 2 rows deep at the top. This means that both the front and back windows protrude too far into the vehicle and look a little sloppy with the overlap" ! Note: I can see from the pictures sent below, and on the official video, that they also seem to have protruding parts, which is completely different from the instruction set (which threw me at first !). I am hoping that this will get sorted out by Lego very quickly.Incidentally, I must have been pretty unlucky with my X-Mas present, because part nb 6047220 was also missing 1 unit (roof top): I got 17 instead of 18 in the instruction set. I must say this is a very rare occurrence in Lego sets, and as always I expect Lego Customer Service to sort this out very quickly, I reached out to them (usually Lego is first class for that type of issues, I must say).Other than that. As always, another brilliant model I would highly recommend to any Lego fan !

[Rewarded Review] Great Set
10 March 2019

Once again Lego hasn't disappointed! This set has been at the top of my build pile for a long time, and I couldn't wait to build it. The Mini Cooper Mk VII was the last of the two door Minis, released in 1996. I’ve never actually been in a Mini, but I would love to now that I’ve built this one! This set brings in a lot of new elements in earth green. There’s 1x4x1 bricks with bows, 1×4 SNOT bricks, 1x2x3 roof tiles, wheel arches, and more. There’s also a nice textile square, for the picnic blanket. This has never been seen in a set before, and it’s a very welcome addition. The two large 3x10x3 windscreens are very nice, and there’s also some surprising elements. Metallic shields that are used in the lights, minifigure skates as door handles, and of course the picnic ... MoreOnce again Lego hasn't disappointed! Many of the parts are printed, such as the 1x4x1 bowed bricks, but building this set still involves you placing a sticker on top of a printed part. That was something I was not expecting! It’s not many though, and it does add a good amount of detail. As an added bonus, there are different styles of number plates, with an Australian, US, Danish, UK, and German one to choose from. It’s extremely clever, and will prove very popular among Lego fans.
