This was a great build with lots of small creepy details to match the Arkham cred. Gargoyles for Batman to hang out with, Gothic rooflines, and black robed demon Angels at the gate. Even a broken window for the criminals to escape from, and Dr Harleen Quinzels Office and secret lair to change into Harley Quinn. Very Fun!

Even buy two to keep one boxed up. I think this set will be worth some serious $$$ to collectors down the road.

Arkham Asylum is awesome!! I would recommend this to anyone, though it is a bunch of money. Ok, down to the pros and cons.Joker - great fig, the inmate suit is cool and very orange.Pinguin - at first I didn't think I was going to like the new Pinguin face as much but it really grew on me. He's great!Harley Quinn - I like the name tag she has on her suit! Over all look is really great!Scarecrow - Again, at first I thought I wouldn't like the new head but it turned out pretty cool after awhile too.Batman - LOVE the new helmet, and his usual black suit is awesome too.Robin - The new hood and cape (I thought) was a really neat change!PoisonIvy - The same one that there was in the bat cave. I'm glad they didn't make a huge change on her though she's not my ... MoreArkham Asylum is awesome!! I would recommend this to anyone, though it is a bunch of money. I was so glad when the Batman Lego theme returned in 2012, and ever since, I'd been hoping the Arkham Asylum set would be redesigned. The original was decent enough, with Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and Riddler as villains and Nightwing, Batman and two guards to fight criminals. This newer version, however, is even better!Minifigures:Scarecrow: Probably my favorite character in this whole set. The front and back of his mask/face are nicely detailed. I sort of wished he had actually been designed more like the Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Scarecrow from Batman Begins, with an actual mask piece that slipped over his face, instead of the same old witch/wizard hat, but it looks better in this new dark brown hue, rather than the old, plain black. Definitely a top-notch minifig.Joker: It's great to see Lego giving the Joker his "jail-cell" outfit, instead of the purple suit again. Still kinda want a different hair-piece for him, though.Robin/Nightwing/Red Robin?: Much cooler than I thought he would be; The bo staff, small cape and hood, and all-black pants make Robin look much more stealthy.Policeman/Guard: I know some people would like policeman in their DC sets to help the superheroes out, but I don't think they're necessary. I would've been much happier if Lego had replaced this guard with another Arkham Asylum inmate, like Hush or a new Two-Face... Even a random, unnamed inmate, or perhaps a Joker henchman.Penguin: Pretty neat design all around. The lighter purple short legs are a good rare piece, and the fish accessory is just great.Poison Ivy: I already had a Poison Ivy minifigure before getting Arkham, so I wasn't thrilled to get her again, but she's not a bad minifigure. I think the hair-piece is well done, but the face design isn't too appealing.Batman: I prefer the standard cloth cape to this non-flexible, pretty boring-looking wing piece for Batman; It doesn't cover much of his neck either, so you can see the flesh tone of his head, which bugs me. They fixed the problem of Batman's mask going too far down and not lining up with the white band on his head (At least the one I received did).Harleen Quinzel: I actually like this half-nurse, half-Harley Quinn minifig better than the complete costume, especially since it includes the blonde ponytail, a piece I've not seen anywhere else.Arkham Asylum Van/Wagon: Fairly compact and smooth design. I'm surprised how big it is on the inside (It's not enormous or anything, but much more so than I initially presumed). I don't mind stickers, big or small, in Lego sets, but be warned the truck has some, as does the actual Arkham building. I do have a problem with the stretcher/containment unit intended for the Joker, though; the cage made up of bar pieces and "droid arms" would be extremely frustrating for a younger builder to stick together, and one of the segments on mine BROKE when I tried to attach it with a minifigure inside. So, I would either suggest avoiding opening/closing the cage all the time, or just take the two middle "droid arms" out of the build: You can still close the sides over a minifig.Arkham Asylum Gate/Entrance: I like the twin ghoul/wraith--like statues, and the pikes and keys they each hold are cool pieces to own. I wish the fence had been a few segments longer, but oh well. The security camera is a fun addition. Ah yes, and those lanterns... They look REALLY cool, but they are a PAIN to construct. The brown, hollow tube bricks that hold the whole lantern together are nearly too thick to fit through the trans-yellow cylinder. I almost bent one trying to get it to fit; It's THAT hard to push them in place!Arkham Asylum: A superb piece of Lego architecture! The front door is very neat indeed, with the smooth light brown plates, and another security camera mounted on a wall. The lobby has a pretty awesome desk were you could seat the guard, or Harleen Quinzel at; There's a video monitor, a big red button and a clear coffee mug on top of it. Two the left, there are duel jail cells with a sliding/locking function. The cells are meant for Joker and Scarecrow, but you can detach the prisoners' profile plates for the bars and switch them out with the other villain bios on the right side of the asylum, such as Mr. Freeze's, Poison Ivy's, Two-Face's, and Penguin's. You can turn the villain bio wall 180 degrees to reveal a secret Harley Quinn lair, with her jester cap and a mirror. Just beside all this is an iconic red BATPHONE! I think this is really clever and a great nod to classic Batman.Upstairs, you have another nicely constructed desk, with a swiveling office chair. Then there's a chemistry lab in the middle, where I normally station Scarecrow. There's a computer monitor, vial of green liquid, two other jars of unknown substances, and some weird hinged-drawer thing underneath the work table..? All the way on the left is Poison Ivy's containment unit, with vines growing through the bars, and a potted plant in the corner. The window is shattered, so you can pretend to have the villains escape (Not sure why the bendable rope piece is WHITE; It would be better in boring black, or a dark brown). And at the very top of the tower, there's a cell that appears to be designed to hold Mr. Freeze (Even though he's not in the set; Just his villain bio downstairs).Where Arkham Asylum really shines is the outside design, however! I like the roof, with the short railings and gargoyles (Who have dark grey frogs for heads, and axe-blades for wings). Best of all, you can hide Batman amongst the dark spires, or have Robin run across the slanted shingles of the roof, thanks to the studs sticking out, allowing you to attach minifigure feet. I love the windows, and the whole thing is just sturdy and well-balanced. Not one piece has fallen off or started to disconnect while transporting it, or setting up action scenes. If you're a DC Superhero fan... Even if you're just a Lego fan... Get this set. It's got a decent amount of fun minifigures, challenging, clever building techniques, and although I mostly just like to present/showcase my Arkham Asylum set, a smaller child would have hours of fun playing with Batman, and having him save the day. Lego recently marked down the price on this set. It's still quite a bit of cash, but I think in the long run, it will be worth it.
As far as quality and attention to detail, this set is as good as it gets for the DC Universe Super Heroes line. This one also happens to be "Batman," so it's value will automatically triple once it's discontinued. So whether you're a fan or a collector, you'd be foolish not to invest in this set while it's still available at MSRP. I was a bit disappointed in the "Batman 2" line when LEGO started reintroducing the sets last year. Most of the sets seemed to be shadows of their former selves, with reduced size, brick count and overall complexity (which is what made the first line of LEGO Batman so excellent). I'm happy to report, however, that the Arkham Aslyum Breakout set is the one outstanding exception. This set is actually five times better than the Arkham Asylum ... MoreAs far as quality and attention to detail, this set is as good as it gets for the DC Universe Super Heroes line. Most of the sets seemed to be shadows of their former selves, with reduced size, brick count and overall complexity (which is what made the first line of LEGO Batman so excellent). I'm happy to report, however, that the Arkham Aslyum Breakout set is the one outstanding exception. This set is actually five times better than the Arkham Asylum set from the first line! This set does a much better job of balancing out the exteriors with the incredibly detailed interiors, so the set can be beautifully displayed from either vantage point. From the outside, Arkham Asylum itself looks wonderfully dark and gothic, rivaling even the fantastic Haunted House from the Monster Hunters line. The front gates are as elaborate and detailed as anything on the main structure, and a perimeter fence could easily be replicated using extra palisade bricks, cones and spears (available a la carte). Even the prisoner transport vehicle is a solid build in its own right, invocative of the Two-Face's Escape set from the first Batman line. The interiors are a real treat. Poison Ivy's cell mimics the one from the Arkham Asylum video game (a special cylindrical chamber). Mr. Freeze (strangely not included) also has a special freeze cell. Joker, Scarecrow and Penguin have typical prison-like cage cells (which open simultaneously like prison cells). But the real treat this time around is Dr. Harleen Quinzel's treatment room and her Harley Quinn/Joker shrine. These, too, are taken right from the Arkham Asylum video game. Even makeup jars and a manequin head for her iconic hat are included in this secret lair that swivels from behind a computer terminal. Also, for the first time, you get minifigures depicting Dr. Quinzel in her lab clothes and the Joker in an orange prison jumpsuit. This is the first LEGO set I've owned that really feels like a "doll's house" worth of detail went into the multi-level interior. The only problem I foresee is deciding which way I want to display this gorgeous set!
Very detailed model with lots of little features. The jail cells are functional and the restraining device for the vehicle is very cool. The minifigures are also very high quality.
This set is amazing the gothic decor is exceptional, but i will split this set into section:The Charaters:Poison ivy is basic but if you don't have the batcave it's great,Scarecrow is very detailed and has a good facial deatails,Harleen Quinzel is good, she has a good evil-looking grin,The Penguin is good they really pulled of the look from the old batman movie,Arkham Robin this charater is really good and really reflects what he looks like in the arkham games,Batman is pretty basic good deatails but nothing special,The cop is basic,The Joker with the jumpsuit is very nice and detailed and is one of my favorites. The Van:The van is very good and has very details and has a lot of space to the handcuffs next to the driver's seat, the strecher is great. The ... MoreThis set is amazing the gothic decor is exceptional, but i will split this set into section:The Charaters:Poison ivy is basic but if you don't have the batcave it's great,Scarecrow is very detailed and has a good facial deatails,Harleen Quinzel is good, she has a good evil-looking grin,The Penguin is good they really pulled of the look from the old batman movie,Arkham Robin this charater is really good and really reflects what he looks like in the arkham games,Batman is pretty basic good deatails but nothing special,The cop is basic,The Joker with the jumpsuit is very nice and detailed and is one of my favorites. The Van:The van is very good and has very details and has a lot of space to the handcuffs next to the driver's seat, the strecher is great. The Gate:the gate is very detailedwith a good gothic appearance. The Asylum:the Asylum is really good with amazing deatail the cells are great and the 2 special cells for Ivy and Freeze are really good and the Freeze cell really looks like the one in the batman movie, the reception is really good and has alot of detail,Harley's changing room is good and detailed, the office is good and has a detailed swivel chair,I really like the dentist-like chair and needles because it is really. My conclusion is that it a really good set but it has a age range for a reason and it's a reasonable price per a brick
Most of my review is premature since I just gave this as a gift to one of my grandsons. Both like Legos so I think it will work well. It helps to know your child's real ability and attention span since it does have over 1600 pieces. The grandson I just gave this to just turned 7, but he's already, after about 3 hours, half way finished...and having no problems. The box says for 12+ year olds.Legos are a little overpriced, but a quality product. I have bought many, over 20, different things from airports to many buildings in the City area. All are super....and we have YET to have a missing part!!
Heavy Lego collector due to my 10 year old's appetite for almost anything Lego we got this mainly for minifigure collection between the two of us but also to build a complete play center of Arkham Asylum, we took the old set (original) this new set and the Monsters Castle New and made a compound for that building work closely with these sets. OK the New Very well designed for solid game play the buildings and gate and vehicle structure feel solid and strong once built, a lego base plate is not needed for moving the structure, it is versatile about three different connecting looks to it. I thought they should have included a Harlequin head with the set instead of just a plain white jester hat holder head so you could begin to transform her from nurse to villain at her make-up table. We have that luxury for we own both of her from prior sets so we can switch her head off but for an entry level this would have been a nice added touch. Remakes of the minfigures in this set nicely done but disappointed that they did not do a fresh Poison Ivy or at a minimum give a different facial expression. I would have opted for that or wished for an entirely new character from the DC Batman Universe for the price of the set. For that it gets a 4.8 almost perfect 5 stars.
The set was set for release yesterday, Dec. 27th. I went to get it that day (a day before my birthday) and let me tell you this - if you loved the Funhouse (6857), then you will love this set!It may be a bit pricey, and the build time is very long (It took me at least 20 minutes per bag, at least 3 hours in total), it is worth it. You get 8 nice minifigures, although I think maybe, perhaps, a Nightwing would've been better than a new Robin, because I don't really like this Robin. The vehicle and the gate are amazing. You get a better gurney than the one you got in the 2006 set because with this one, you actually lock them in whereas in the old one, you had to just lay it over them. The gate has these nice 'dark angels' and that's really cool because you also get the wings from the new theme, the Legends of Chima, in black. The asylum itself is just marvelous! You get a bunch of neat rooms and nice cells. There are a few things that they could've improved - such as where the phone is...the door opens and whoever is standing at the phone gets squashed. The cells for the Joker and Scarecrow are a bit small and you can't stand someone up and attach them to the studs to the right where the window area of their cell is. So they basically just have to be thrown in that area. You can stand them up and attach them to the studs where the door is, which is the plus of that.Dr. Harleen Quinzel's makeup room is nice but she can't really stand on the studs provided. The cell block names on the back of the makeup stand are nice, but I don't really understand a few of them. Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze both have their own cell in the asylum, so they don't need those. I think they should've made one for the Riddler, because he was in the old Arkham Asylum set, and maybe one for Harley Quinn? Other than that, I think the set is REALLY nice and I love it! It is worth the money, definitely.Thank you, LEGO, for making such an awesome set! I can't wait to see what you have in store for the 2014 DC sets!
