Unless you are lucky to find some of the these characters in the Dollarama like me, the fun packs run $10-15, team -$20-25, level $25-40 and the story $40-$50. I managed to find one level pack for $4 for my nephew once at the Dollarama so you are new definitely look for the packs there.

At the end I will also be talking about the ‘team’ and ‘fun’ packs that are associated with this, and my recommendations to the game. That said, let us begin.ABSTRACTLego Dimensions is a game that, as a young adult, kept my interest and was genuinely fun to play. The game is very creative in the puzzle mechanics and overall storyline. The game also has a unique attention to detail of each storyline that many games often lack, making ‘fanboys’ such as myself very pleased with the levels. That said, the game does an above standard job with making sure those with limited knowledge of the universes the game entails do not need to go and research these universes in order to play the levels. The game, however, painfully reminds the player that they are playing a ‘toy to life’ game, and at times is frustrating to completionists with limited incomes who are unable to buy the extra additions. I overall recommend the game to parents with some income to purchase at least 50 dollars of add on packs to enhance your child’s experience.PROSThe first pro of the game, and perhaps the most important one, is that the game is very fun to play. Many of the youth of this generation are used to ‘grinding’ through games, not really having fun and more so playing the game to waste time. This game, however, constantly engages the player, keeping them focused on what is happening and providing a fun atmosphere to learn. The keystones in particular are very fun to use, specifically the ‘seek’ keystone, which allows the player to summon elements from other dimensions, which often times in very amusing (such as blasting down Lord Vortech with the MechaDragon from Ninjago, or Batman’s Nightwing). The game’s atmosphere is also a contributing factor to this, being very fun and happy like many other Lego Video Games.Another important aspect of the game I personally found very entrancing is the puzzle mechanics. Going into the game, I did not realize it would be a game that required me to move characters on the toypad. However, that ended up being the case. During gameplay, a player activates ‘keystones’ to solve a puzzle, these being Teleport (opens 3 portals to move to), Paint (to match a picture on the screen), Elemental (use Fire, Water, Electricity or Earth), Growth (shrink or grow) and Seek (summon elements from other dimensions to help you). These puzzles all require the player to move characters on the toypad to a certain position to use these keystones, keeping the player always interactive with what is happening on screen. These puzzles are integrated into elements of the level, such as having to use Paint to activate a loud speaker to blow away cars blocking your path. These mechanics are beautifully well done. The third pro of the game, and one that is more important to fanboys rather than parents, is the game has a unique attention to detail. In every level, you play through a certain world, beginning with the Wizard of Oz, then onto the Simpsons, then to Ninjago, etc. Each level, however, is very pleasing to those who have seen the particular elements from the game. In the Portal 2 level, for example, those who have played either Portal game will see recognizable elements, and even lines taken from the games that mesh in with the scenery. One of my favorites was, as Wheatly tries to lead you to safety, you pass the three turrets practicing for the Turret Opera, with the exact movements and song playing. The rat dens are also very accurate. Another example would be in the Doctor Who level, there are several cases of ‘Bad Wolf’ being painted on blue walls, which to those who know the series is a great Easter Egg. The game is full of these eggs, and I found myself laughing at a few references. That being said, and this being important to parent buyers, the game does a fantastic job at making sure the player does not need to know the source material to understand the level. For many young children who have not played Portal, the level is very straightforward: find the cake. The puzzles are slightly tailored to the actual puzzles in Portal, but the game doesn’t require the player to go ‘okay I know a portal must go here and momentum is conserved between portals…’; every mechanic in levels are centered around the toypad puzzles you have already done. This, to me, is especially important, as prior to playing the game I had not seen Ghostbusters. When playing the level, however, you again have a simple task: rescue the Ghostbusters from Zod. The rest of the level is puzzle solving. Any inappropriate elements are removed, meaning young children can also play this game, though I do recommend it for children 10 and up.The last pro that I will mention is that the game is very expansive, meaning that the game lasts much more than just the campaign. With just the starter pack, after completing the game the child can explore 3 large dimensions that each have puzzles and mechanics to collect gold bricks (which they use to upgrade their vehicles). Buying just one more add on pack for 11 dollars can open up ANOTHER dimension to explore, meaning that one can easily continue to grow and build their collection even after completing the story.CONSThat being said, the game does have some very noticeable cons. The first that I must bring up is the ‘toy to life’ concept of the game. The characters included in the starter pack have only the basic abilities needed to complete the game, with the Batmobile able to be upgraded to also complete tow bar and sonic puzzles. However, the game, like other Lego Games, has a minikit system that, upon getting all 10, unlocks a little game in a dimension. The problem with this, however, is that one can only attain 1-2 per level with the base characters. Other minikits require having the player buy other packs to get other abilities, with some abilities being only unique to 1 character. This, to one with low disposable income or not wanting to spend another 100 dollars, is a huge turn off. To those who wish to complete levels, this also creates some frustration. Right off the bat, in the very first level, one cannot collect 3 minikits without having the Ghostbuster’s level pack, as normal characters can’t go through ghost swarms. This, to my personal gameplay, was a massive pain.Another massive issue that I bring up with this game is the price point. The game itself is very fun and exciting, but the sheer price of almost 80 dollars for the game is too much. By comparison, I could buy Skylanders, several characters, and even level packs for the same amount, and have much more gameplay. While some can find the game on sale, for those who buy this game direct from Lego, the price is very difficult to cope with, requiring one to shell out almost a hundred dollars for the game. That, however, does not also include buying other packs, which are also still overpriced even with the September price drop of 30%. I have bought most of my packs on clearance, and I am very satisfied with paying 5 dollars for Wonder Woman or Slimer, and gaining almost 8 abilities the base characters do not have.*ADD-ONS*As promised, I have included this section to talk about some of the add-ons to the game. The game is designed to have the player purchase additional packs of characters htat have different abilities, such as diving underwater or using Atlantis pools. One of the largest issues with these packs, besides the aforementioned price point, is that many abilities overlap, can be found in upgraded vehicles or are too exclusive. Two of the most common side abilities are Gold and Silver lego blowup. While neither comes with the starter pack, these can be found in many vehicles and characters, with the list being almost 30 long. Other abilites, such as Atlantis Pool, are ONLY found in Aquaman. While some of these can be extremely fun (such as the Suspend Ghosts or Dive), they often times require one to have many characters. For an example, I personally have collected a total of 15 characters, and still do not have the Atlantis Pool or Spinjitzu ability. Pole Twirl, a rare ability only needed many 5 times in game, only is unique to Legolas or Sensei Wu, while almost 10 characters are able to use the dive ability. That being said, however, I would also like to mention that many of the packs do include fun and inspiring builds, and every character has a unique personality that is conveyed well through dialogue. Each character also has lines when they enter certain vehicles or gadgets, such as the Doctor yelling ‘I prefer cars called Bessie that come with a Brigader!’ when entering the Batmobile (a reference to the 4th doctor). The characters also have a fun ‘collect them all’ feel, and let one amass many figures that, ordinarily, lego would never release. The variety is also stunning, from the Simpsons to Portal 2 to Ghostbusters, there is no shortage in characters.CLOSING REMARKSIf one would like to know my personal recommendations of the fun packs to buy, I recommend the following: Slimer (Ghostbusters), Jurassic World Team Pack (Jurassic World), Zane (Ninjago), Cyberman (Doctor Who), Ghostbusters Level Pack (Ghostbusters), and Unikitty (Lego Movie). These unlock most abilities and leave only Chi, Atlantis, Pole Vault, Drill and Spray abilities not unlocked (others can be unlocked through vehicle upgrading). In short, I recommend this product to young adults and children. Thank you for your time, and I hope this lengthy review has helped you decide on whether or not to purchase this game.

The game is intended for children. With that said I have enjoyed many "kids" games in the past as an adult. However Dimensions did not hold up. I got this only a few months ago at deep clearance. The parts are nice colors. The figures are nothing special with Batman being an amalgamation of previously released parts. The game play gets redundant quick with most of your time spent breaking everything in sight for an endless stream of coins. The puzzles are more time consuming than difficult where figuring out the mechanics of what you are supposed to be doing is the hardest challenge. I would have an annoying time playing this without all the packs. Luckily I had most of the packs because of them being available for a dollar last year. There is a reason this game failed. Redundant kills fun fast, and that is terrible for a game that tries to offer an experience that is supposed to last. The cost, and out of date references likely made it difficult for kids to enjoy (how many ten year olds watch the A-Team?). I played maybe 15 hours (mainly of portal 2) before I got bored and quit.

We bought the Playstation 4 mainly for this game since there is apparently so much to do with it. The starter kit has everything you need in order to play the story levels, although to get every gold brick, kit, etc., other characters will be needed. You also have free roam access to three worlds: Lego Movie, Lord of the Rings, and DC comics. Younger children might find some of the puzzles challenging as I will admit getting stuck in certain places every once in a while. There is an opportunity to buy expansion character packs. These characters bring in new abilities and they open the respective world that they represent for free roaming. If you are a fan of the 80s pop culture, this might be too difficult to resist with all the movie themes from that time ... MoreWe bought the Playstation 4 mainly for this game since there is apparently so much to do with it. For us, this means a lot of getting up to move/switch characters and vehicle builds on the pad, and this is sometimes required fairly often. I guess it does give you a little exercise and keep you moving depending on how your unit, TV, and couch is oriented. This is certainly a good family game, as everyone will have their favorite areas to explore. It can be expensive, especially to get more character packs, but it does add a lot more possibilities. One of my favorite aspects of the game is where you have the opportunity to rebuild areas in the free roam world. I wish there was a way to get instructions online for some of these, as I would like to try building some with actual bricks.
The starter pack comes with everything you need to play through the main storyline of the game, which does come to a satisfying ending! I was a little worried that there might be some cliffhanger since there are plenty more waves of toy packs on the way.Truly an incredible game with fun puzzle-solving gameplay based on the gamepad mixed into typical the TT LEGO Games formula. Incredible mixture of licenses, voice actors, and music. Some minor cons: the USB cable is permanently attached to the gamepad, so if it happens to wear out, you're out of luck. It's also not wireless, and I did have one incident where my cat ran through the cable and smashed the pad and all the toys into the ground. It's also not wireless, and I did have one incident where my cat ran through the cable and smashed the pad and all the toys into the ground. Thankfully nothing broke! The game came with day-one updates, meaning you'll need to wait a while before playing the game for the first time, assuming you want to update it, which I'd recommend. Thankfully, you're given paper instructions on how to build the portal that sits on the gamepad, so this is a good time to do some building! One thing I did notice is that sometime characters can take a while to load in the game after you put them on the gamepad. Not sure exactly why this happens, but I did have to wait for 45-60 seconds for a few characters to finally pop into the game. This happened very rarely and will probably get patched in an upcoming update for the game.I felt like flying characters (or vehicles) like the Wicked Witch were a little game-breaking. Although the slogan of the game is "Break the rules," I feel like you can bypass a bit too much of the game, like Portal 2 puzzles, by flying past them. You can easily solve this problem by not abusing these characters like I did.You won't be able to 100% complete the core game until later waves are released (the announced Midway Arcade, Ghostbusters, and Dr Who packs, specifically). The levels have 10 minikits to unlock that sometimes require currently unreleased characters, and the freeplay worlds have certain gold bricks and things you can't do quite yet. There's a bonus dimension that you can open with gold bricks, but it too isn't fully completable until the aforementioned sets come out (and you're given no warning of this, the bonus dimension level just ends abruptly). So if you're a completionist, just know you won't be able to truly complete the game for a while. The pros strongly outweigh the cons! Very highly recommended!
The game is clever with Large sand box game level worlds. Land of Oz Driving the Batmobile through also Middle Earth & Lego Movie World & DC Hero' World are the only 4 worlds U have in basic set. other Expansion Worlds can be purchases & Charters. The Dr Who set is Good the Tardis U can enter change interiors & Play All the DRs 1 to 12 with various Theme Tunes. For the actual Level Worlds need ONLINE Upgrade !! Is the Only Downside if Offline. & Some areas need different Characters which need to purchase. A Flying Character is worth getting like Superman Girl or Wonder Women or a Flying Vehicle which is Great fun & allows U easier Access & to Survey the World Level ! Other Level Worlds.... Ghostbusters, Jurassic World, Ninjango, Back To The Future & More.
Lego Dimensions is a good game in my opinion, I have hours of fun playing it, and it is challenging more than any other past Lego game I've played. The story for Lego Dimensions is that Lord Vortax (or something like that) is trying to collide different Lego worlds such as The Simpsons, Wizard of Oz, DC Superheroes, Doctor Who, and more together, which leads to ultimate power for him. Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, and Batman from DC Superheroes team up and try to stop him from taking over the world. The imagination in this is amazing, you have different figures from different worlds coming together and it's a lot of fun, I don't think you'll ever see Homer Simpson coming out of a portal from the sky on a wrecking ball to destroy an ... MoreLego Dimensions is a good game in my opinion, I have hours of fun playing it, and it is challenging more than any other past Lego game I've played. I have a lot of fun playing this game, but I have two problems with it.1: While I was playing this game, I found it extremely glitchy, I mean, I was playing multiple levels, and it would often stop, things wouldn't work, and the only way I could fix it was to pull the plug, which damages the PS3 if you don't manually shut it down. I don't know if it's my game, my console, or what, just thought I'd say so.2.: You can transport characters into the game by placing a character on the toy pad, this is fun and all, but to get minikits, you need to buy the figures from the store, and they aren't cheap. You can "Hire a Hero" , which is a good feature, but it costs a lot of studs in the game, and you have him/her for 30 seconds. I am not a fan of this, because it would cost a lot of money to get 100% on the game.Other than those two complaints, this is a fun game, and will leave you with hours of fun.
A fun, well packaged game. It's a bit daunting to start as it's not immediately obvious why you need to move the characters around on the toy pad, or how to work the puzzles out, then it all comes together. It can still be a bit awkward to watch the screen and move the characters around at times. Lots of levels and things to find. The base pack gives you loads to do but buy more fun/team/level packs and you'll be playing this for months. It has the usual Lego charm and dynamics and is a very good game.
Bought it for my 5 year old since he's into legos and he loved it. I was able to buy it online for $63 and it's so worth the price, yes you do have to buy characters separate but they rage from 15-30$ ands it's much better than buying a new game for 40-50$. Lego dimensions is basically a game with different worlds and like other similar games you go trough levels finding gold blocks but in this game every character opens up a new world! Not only a new world but the characters come with a vehicle which makes the game even more fun since each level has beat the clock race to add on top of everything. After collecting coins you are then able to upgrade the vehicles into 3 different options which maximizes coin collection. Overall it's become the only game my son will play, he's moved aside super mario, yoshi whooland, and disney infinity to name a few. Would HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for hours of fun!!!On a side note you do have to put it all together, they are legos so give your kids a 30 minutes headsup to complete it so they don't get frustrated. Since my did but at the end it's totally worth it.
Lego Dimensions is obviously one of the best Lego games that has ever existed and there are alot of great things I can say about it. Making a toys-to-life game out of Legos was a brilliant idea sence Legos were toys to begin with. It does a good job combining the Lego toys with the Lego video games. You get to build the stuff before using it in-game, and I always like to say that buliding them is half the fun. The gadgets and vehicles can actually be rebuilt into their rebulds in the game, which I think really emphasizes the Lego-ness of the game. The stuff with the keystones is quite groundbreaking for toys-to-life games as you constantly interact with the physical toys instead of just leaving them there. The stuff with the keystones is quite groundbreaking for toys-to-life games as you constantly interact with the physical toys instead of just leaving them there. This game, like all Lego games, has alot of replay value, and that replay value gets bigger and bigger as you get more characters; geting even one character pack can unveil many hours of content. I also find the Story Packs to be nice little alternatives to makeing full games off of those movies. And then there is, of course the very best part of this game, this game is the biggest crossover in the history of anything ever! All of these great movies, TV shows & video games all coming together in this one big thing! And the people at the Lego company are the only guys who could do this because they have the rights to use the likenesses of so many intulectual properties! Any character, veichle & gadget can go anywhere, meaning that you can mash these worlds together to your hearts content. There is so much love shown for each franchise that's represented here; there's alot of stuff that only people who know the respective sources would understand. Alot of the abilities that each character has, make sense for that character, you can easily play as them in the game knowing exactally what they can do. It was wonderfull that they added even more stuff to the game, and it's because of the many franchises and characters that are in here, that fans of the game have they're own ideas of who they'd like to see in the game, including myself; and it is because of this immense potential that I hope we see alot more of this in the future.
