To start, this set measures at 20.5 inches long by 12.5 inches wide. Its competitive retail price is 100$ with a piece count of 1,254. And though this set is recommended for ages 18 , it very much appeals to both kids and adults alike. The build is large, well detailed and very sturdy for easy play. My 6 year old cousin came over for a visit and this set was an instant hit when it came to play time. The built-in rover ramp also gives kids a ground vehicle to play with in addition to the very large spaceship. With the recommended age and complexity of the build, I would suggest that both the kids and the adults build this together. If the original build for this model is too large, Lego does offer official alternative building instructions on their website (not included in box) for secondary and tertiary smaller builds. Unfortunately, you can only build one model per set purchased and as fair warning, most of if not all included bags will be required to obtain the necessary parts for the alternative builds, while leaving behind a lot of extra parts. Both alternative builds for this set, of course, do also offer the same stability for kids as well. I have included a photo of the main model next to the aforementioned Inquisitor Transport Scythe, along with a photo of the secondary build that scales more favorably. In the scheme of not only Lego value but also toy value, especially in this economy, even at its competitive retail price, is a phenomenal offer for the experience, variety and play. If you have a Lego fan of any age, this certainly is the Lego must-have set of 2022.

I've not bought Legos in over 15 years and decided to buy the Galaxy Explorer for my 19 yr old son and me to build together. He never had an interest in building things while growing up-pc gaming is all he loves. Last week he sat with me and helped start building the Galaxy Explorer until all the pieces in bag 1 were used. We'll start working on it again tomorrow. I used to help my 28 yr old son build many Lego sets when he was a kid. Aside from that, others have complained their box arrived beat up. I'm happy to say mine was delivered in perfect condition from a nearby Walmart.

(I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review.)My husband is SO GEEKED to put this together! He has loved legos since he was a young boy so when he saw this adult Lego set I knew I had to get it for him! This spaceship is full of intricate details that make it stand out from other Lego sets. The inside of the cockpit looks awesome. We have yet to assemble but the instructions are very clear and we can't wait to start assembly!

This is a fantastic Lego set. One of the best value for money sets in a long time. It is HUGE when you put it together. Not too big, but very dense. The ship's main grey base is formed with a clever mix of brackets set off at unusual angles, which is kept stable by careful layering of plates. If it were me, I'd have added some more substructure, but as far as official sets go, this one is in my top 10 favourite Lego sets of all time. It is perfectly put together, and it doesn't come with projectile weapons, which I appreciate (too many spaceships have guns for no good reason nowadays. This one is a nostalgic look back to the time of space exploration, rather than space battle, in Lego themes)I was tempted to bump this down to a 4 star due to some stability ... MoreThis is a fantastic Lego set. Compare this to the £350 castle that's not as visually interesting, and you'll see what I mean. The set has some stability issues (the side boosters and landing pads can come apart easily, as the stress point aren't reinforced properly) and the panels near the front can come loose, but it's nothing a simple mod can't fix.9/10 for me. So 5 stars.- Grumblebricks
Not as large as you would think. It is very retro/mellow in design instead of overly energetic. It took several hours to assemble.Could have used some protrusions on the bottom to grip. A second or third robot would have been nice with updated design styling. Additional mini figs in other colors would have been nice too.If you can get it while it's still 25% off it's a steal. At normal retail it's still awesome.
This review is just based on the design, package and reviews I've seen online - not opening it til my birthday :)Lego have done a great job of capturing the classic 1979 design, and also greatly improving the construction methods used to build this much bigger model.I wish it had the baseplates of the original, and the communications tower, but I assume they were dropped to keep the costs down (seeing the castle set at 344.99 makes me really glad this is under 100).Can't wait to build and display this.BTW - I'm also very happy with Smyths' delivery options and speed of delivery. You can choose a home delivery or pick up from a collection point. Thanks, and I look forward to buying more from Smyths.
This is how my Galaxy Explorer's Arrived on 2 separate days. One looks like it got ran over by a car and the other 2 look like they've been used in the egg drop experiment. ATTENTION WALMART AND THE 3RD PARTY DRIVERS --> STOP USING BAGS WHEN A PROTECTIVE BOX IS NEEDED! Would you want your gift to arrive like this??? I don't know who's responsible for this practice but it needs to stop NOW!In both cases (caught on Ring) the driver hops out of their car and chunks the bag 10 feet onto my porch. As if another 4 steps and setting it next to the door was an Olympic sized hurdle ...and just in case you're wondering... we DO NOT have a moat filled with alligators surrounding our house.I can't imagine Walmart is very happy with the returns and how much money, time and ... MoreThis is how my Galaxy Explorer's Arrived on 2 separate days. This item isn't a run of the mill Lego set. It is a retro item hinting back to the Lego space sets from the late 70's through early 80's. Younger Lego fans may not appreciate the nostalgia like someone that grew up with Lego from that time period. It is also a more complicated set that some younger fans may be used to. For fans that recognize what this set is a reference to, it is a must have item.
A great throwback set to honor one of their sets from earlier in their existence, this is a great build and definitely Wooshable. It reminded me so much of Benny's spaceship in the Lego movie that I had to go buy THAT set as well, so these will be nice to display side by side. It's a good size without being too large for play or display. Even the little engines can be used separately as personal transport rockets. One of my favorite things Lego sometimes does now, is printed bricks, so the controls in the cockpit just look that much better.Lots of playability here, and if you're someone who built the original years and years ago, this will bring back some happy memories
I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. My husband is having a great time putting this together. He said it is challenging, but not so much that it turns into something that is frustrating. He has been reminiscing about his childhood and all the fun he had with his Lego sets. He said the details are amazing and very impressive, a big difference from when he was a kid in the late 1970's and early 80's.
