I bought this set for me and my Fiancée we both love Harry Potter and the Wizarding world in general, the best parts of this set are the amount of beautiful detail on the facade, but that’s not the highlight of this set. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and detailed to the highest degree. They also give about 12 figures so those that say that there’s not enough are crazy.I do have a couple of complaints, namely about the fact that there are stickers instead of printed blocks, I didn’t mind the stickers too much, but it would have been nice to see blocks unique to the set.I also had a bit on an issue with the brightness of the colors of the set, they are accurate, but I would have preferred to see a slightly darker blocks. Also, a lot of the little extra ... MoreI bought this set for me and my Fiancée we both love Harry Potter and the Wizarding world in general, the best parts of this set are the amount of beautiful detail on the facade, but that’s not the highlight of this set. As a unit it does feel very fragile, so be careful if you aren’t just getting it to display it.Lastly is a complaint that is mostly specific to me and/or other colorblind people. Depending on the colorblindness you have you will NEED someone else to help build this.Nonetheless none of these complaints take away remotely from the beauty and expertise that went into this set. If you’re a huge fan of the Wizarding World like me it is definitely worth the money.

Diagon Alley is a great set with a few missed opportunities. The good things about Diagon Alley are:1. A great building experience it has a lot of wonderful details that are accurate to the movie and it has some great building techniques used to make it. It isn't a extremely hard set to build but it has it's moments like with the rooftop chairs (which in response to other peoples reviews are hard to figure out but I did and it isn't impossible to do so while following the instructions and without adding pieces the instructions don't say to.) Also the moving top hat is a decent challenge as well.2. A decent minifigure selection as sets go I would say this one is above average minifigure wise. Glideroy lockhart is great to have along with florian fortescue. ... MoreDiagon Alley is a great set with a few missed opportunities. The good things about Diagon Alley are:1. Also the moving top hat is a decent challenge as well.2. A decent minifigure selection as sets go I would say this one is above average minifigure wise. Glideroy lockhart is great to have along with florian fortescue. Lucius's face is kind of a disappointment but other than that he is fine. The photographer is nothing amazing but I appreciate the new print and new hat mold. The Weasley twin's suits are great and I am glad to have them. Molly and Ginny are nice additions but nothing amazing. The golden trio have nice new prints for their shirts and Harry's face print with smoke all over his face is great. Ollivander is reused from the 2018 gwp but as I was unable to pick it up and don't want to spend $150 on it online he is good to have. Hagrid is reused from a few other sets but that's not to say he isn't screen accurate. Draco is good and it is nice to have the new robes for Slytherin. Also the mannequins for QQS are nice to have I am glad we finally got raven claw and Hufflepuff quidditch robes though I wish they had the capes that the Slytherins and Gryffindor's have in the quidditch match set.3. A great display piece it looks amazing on the shelf I have it even without LEDs.4. Very screen accurate looks just like it did in the movies. 5. The amazing cobbled street it looks so nice and matches the alley perfectly.6. A wonderful surprise inside (not spoiling it) but box 21 is a great addition.Cons:1. Missed opportunities for new Minifigures. I really wish each shop came with a shopkeeper but 4/7 isn't that bad (or technically 5/7 if you count gilderoy for flourish and blotts) but I wish it was 7/7 as it is I use my unwanted fantastic beast figures from cmf 1 as shopkeepers which is good enough. Also I kind of wish it included Rita Skeeter for the daily prophet shop.2. Missed opportunities for other shops. I really wish it had the leaky cauldron I can see why it isn't happening and is a design nightmare but it feels incomplete without it and it is my favorite location in the alley. Gringotts! The set delivers for what it costs and I am glad it didn't jump $300 in price include Grinngotts but I miss it. At least their is a chance Lego might make a Grinngotts some time in the future. those two shops are the ones I miss the most. I do hope though that are more shops in the future the only one I wouldn't care about is borgin and burkes so at least that wasn't included in place of a different shop. It would also be nice to get the magical pet shop (I can't remember it's name) madam Malkins, and the apothecary.3. Final complaint to many stickers! it looks great now but their must have been over 100 stickers please Lego in the future have some more printed elements it was painful getting all those stickers on WWW.Overall it is a great set I would recommend it.

When I first saw the leaked pictures of this set online, I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed, but that was only because I didn’t actually every pay attention to how Diagon Alley actually looks in the movies. I was so used to seeing my original Diagon Alley set from 2011 on my shelf that this one looked off until I realized the original is incredible inaccurate while this one is the most accurate Diagon alley set we’ve ever gotten. Even on the day of release I was still questioning whether or not to buy this set, but I must say, this has become my favorite LEGO set of all time. The attention detail in it is so Incredible and you can tell that there was a lot of love and care put into making this set as great as it can be. The interiors in my opinion are big enough considering how detailed they are I think they have enough space to display figures and to have the large amount of detail that are put in them. They are definitely bigger than the original 2011 set. The only downsides that I would say exist in this set are the amount of stickers and the mini figure selection. But at the same time I don’t think those two things are enough to rate this gorgeous set any lower than 5 stars. This is definitely the best Harry Potter set LEGO has made and definitely one of the top 5 best LEGO sets they’ve made out of every theme.

I got this set as a Christmas gift for my Harry Potter fan spouse as her first Lego set. She spent a couple weeks in January with our toddler son building it with him and telling him Harry Potter stories she remembered from the books. They bonded very well over this time and it was a very special experience for them both to share. The set is huge but fits nicely on a mantle piece. It offers good play similar to a doll house or action figure compound. There are a few play features with staircases that move and a top hat figurehead that can raise his cap to customers below. There isn't the type of dynamic action you see in Batman sets, but that is not what these scenes are meant to convey. My toddler played at buying things in shops, particularly ice cream and ... MoreI got this set as a Christmas gift for my Harry Potter fan spouse as her first Lego set. There isn't the type of dynamic action you see in Batman sets, but that is not what these scenes are meant to convey. My toddler played at buying things in shops, particularly ice cream and books. The ceilings were high enough to move figures in and out.The build itself uses sophisticated techniques that are great to learn and use in other settings. The form of the facades is beautiful. There is a noticable upward tick in difficulty as you proceed, allowing less experienced builders to warm up as they proceed. If this was intentional, the designers should be commended for their foresight. It is substantially taller than the previous Diagon Alley and additional bricks and modifications for that will be necessary if you want to bring them together in the same style and feel. For this new set, we had a little trouble getting the first and second stories to line up correctly and there are a few cracks. Pushing down on the top of the model does not close these gaps, so you have to be careful as it is very difficult to correct these later. The color combinations are great. It reminded me of the shops you find in Italian and Dutch cities. They add a lively appearance that brightens the room with the sort of energy you would expect from a bustling street. I am happy to see it every day, and it causes us to smile. My one-year-old gazes up at it in wonder pointing. He loves to be carried over to it, hands just out of reach. Some day, little one.
Diagon Alley is a stunning addition to the latest LEGO Harry Potter collection. The LEGO designers continue to come up with fascinating new build techniques, of which there are many in this set. The complete set makes a superb display piece, the only conundrum being whether to display the front or the back, as there are rich details everywhere. The price is ok. I don't judge a model's price on brick count - clearly a lot of work has gone into the research and design of this model. Now, the elephant in the room: STICKERS! There are far too many stickers for such a premium model. By the time you get to the 4th build (Weasley's Wizard Wheezes) you will be absolutely sick of stickers. Unfortunately you are just about to start the module that has the highest sticker count. There are even bricks in this build that have stickers on ALL FOUR SIDES!I feel that LEGO's success has led to an increasing complacency with regard to stickers. Whether it is a cost-cutting exercise, or the knowledge that people are going to buy the sets whatever, in the end it is the customer that loses out. If it costs more, charge more, but please don't take the shine off a magnificent set by complacency or penny-pinching. I would be happy to buy a set of printed bricks to retrofit to this set if LEGO would make the effort.Rant over. This is a fantastic set. It looks great and fits in perfectly with the rest of the 'blue box' LEGO Harry Potter sets. Just prepare yourself for a storm of frustration if you're not a fan of stickers.
This set is expensive and poorly done. I'm pretty sure it was never even ran past a Harry Potter fan. There are so many details they got wrong. The Weasley shop was never open at the same time as Olivanders and the Sirius Black wanted posters would not have been a thing until year 3, but the majority of this set seems to take place in year 2. Only 3 of the shops have shopkeepers, which also seems like a major oversight. There are a lot of stickers but those don't typically bother me. That said, the "dark mark" sticker is the dumbest thing I've ever seen! It looks like a cheap Halloween sticker and looks nothing like the dark mark!I agree with others that these should have been sold as individual sets with the option to add on. Lego, Diagon Alley is NOT the same without Gringotts and The Leaky Cauldren!! PLEASE release those separately. The bubble gum pink is simply dreadful. I even went so far as to order all of the pink pieces in red because I hate it that much! Nothing in Diagon Alley is pink! I would love to see buildings added for Knockturn Alley as well. The Daily Prophet building is a cop out in every way. No Rita Skeeter and just a box of newspapers, a cobweb and a mouse with cheese. Seriously?!? So lame!***spoiler alert*** box 21 is a massive let down!! What a missed opportunity to have it say "silencio" instead of "I open at the close" but that seems to be the theme for this set...missing the mark in every detail. Then the fact that it contains Hagrid and yet another Harry, which I have about 40 of now, was just the worst disappointment! It has a plaque with a quote from his first visit but the face of the Harry that landed in Knocktuen Alley several years later. What?!?This set is a lot of money and you'd think at this price point, they would have at least gotten the details right. I don't think a single HP fan worked on this. Please Lego, at very least, release Gringotts and the Leaky Cauldren to add on!
Being a huge Harry Potter and Lego fan - was so excited when I heard this was being released. Purchased immediately, couldn't wait for it to be delivered.I like to take my time building the Harry Potter kits (and lego in general) as there is so much to discover whilst building. I like to build a section and then really look at it. It took a month for me to build this. There is such attention to detail, the wand boxes in Ollivanders, the tills in the shop, the books in Flourish and Blotts. Weasley's shop - the tipping hat at the front of the shop - shame there wasn't the puking pastels display (but can't have everything :)).I didn't have a problem with the stickers, yes there are alot but what do you expect? It would have been boring if all the bricks came pre-printed. The most annoying bit for me was putting the windows in the frames (as with all HP sets). Some bits were fiddly - did have to fudge the chair above the awning of the icecream parlour to fix it on.Love the figures - especially Lockhart. It looks amazing when put all together - great sense of satisfaction when it has been completed. The Leaky Cauldron and Gringotts Bank would have set this off nicely. Would definitely recommend.Oh by the way - to anyone who works at Lego.....Hogsmeade would be a good set to build, Honeydukes, Shrieking Shack, The Threebroom Sticks, Hogshead.
This is the largest set I have tackled to date, by quite some way and I was a little nervous about it just because of the size. The fact that each book refers to one particular set of shops makes it easy to have a natural break off point. So much so, I split this build over 4 days and it is a good job I did as there were some spots that challenged me and I probably would have made a right old mess of things if I had tried to "push it".I really enjoyed all the little details inside the shops that really bring the sets to life. I kept gasping as I built things because of the detail they added. So much so I think I drove the other half up the proverbial wall - he just kept telling me "Yes, I know, I've watched a build video".I'm not a big fan of stickers and there ... MoreThis is the largest set I have tackled to date, by quite some way and I was a little nervous about it just because of the size. So much so I think I drove the other half up the proverbial wall - he just kept telling me "Yes, I know, I've watched a build video".I'm not a big fan of stickers and there are a LOT of stickers in this build. This is particularly true for Book 4, I felt like I spent ages trying to line everything up nice and neatly and I am actually surprised that I got most of them pretty accurate with only a smidge of unpeeling going on. Was well worth it though as the finished product looks really good in my display cabinet - storefront side to the mirror at the back so you can see inside all the stores. The storefronts themselves I really liked as well but I had to make a display decision and this seemed the best way.I thoroughly enjoyed the build itself even if I did have issues with the chair/table arrangement on top of the Ice Cream Parlour and also with the Weasley hat lifting figure. Not too keen on the wall clipping in to place behind it either as my fingers really struggled clipping it into place. Got there in the end with both of them and only the figure problems seemed to be a a build issue. The chair/table problem does seem to be a placement issue that you need to work around for yourself although I have seen it completed as per the manual image.Number Of Pieces: 5,544Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.07Build Time:Book 1 - Ollivander's and Scribbulus - 5.25 HoursBook 2 - Quality Quidditch Supplies and Daily Prophet - 4 HoursBook 3 - Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour and Flourish and Blotts - 5.75 HoursBook 4 - Weasley's Wizard Wheezes and Knockturn Alley entrance - 7.5 Hours
This is one of the best lego sets ever. The set is full of little details and has an amazing exterior to display. This set is also good to play with because of its open back and also the amount of cool design will also help you become immersed in the harry potter universe. The main positive of this set is the exterior and when it's on display it really comes into its own. It also helps that Diagon alley is a really iconic place and lego did a great job of recreating it. The colours of this set are bright and in your face so you cant miss it but also some of the buildings are dark so you can display its next a modular lego set and it will fit in fine. Another cool addition is the greebling of the street and the fact that you can move the building apart and create your own streetA few problems with this set is probably the minifigures though they are mostly fine its more the facts that they repeat too many prints. Another thing is that its annoying that they did't have key characters like Mr Weasley and Rita Skeeter However Lockhart is amazing. The main criticism of this set is to do with the lack of a couple of key shops E.G The leaky cauldron, Borgin and Burkes and Gringotts (this might be made as a set individually). But most of these are nit picks and don't really take away from this set.Overall this set is super cool and is both a great display piece and also a good play set. I would recommend this set to any Harry Potter fan even though this set is a bit expensive and also you could get Hogwarts for the same or £20 less I would say it is worth it.Also box 21 is a neat surprise
Several issues with this set.The first is that it is four separate sets. The idea that you can arrange them however you like is nice, but also not necessary. There is nothing about the four sets that joins them in any fashion in design, and physically they are held together by a one piece connection unlike the two piece modular building connection because they sets are so shallow.Second is that there is virtually no way to play with this set. The design of some of the rooms in the same building leave you wondering how a character even accesses that space. I do not play with sets, so this is not a deal breaker, but there are also limited ways to display the characters outside in front of the facades.Third is that I cannot stand when there are lose items in ... MoreSeveral issues with this set.The first is that it is four separate sets. I do not play with sets, so this is not a deal breaker, but there are also limited ways to display the characters outside in front of the facades.Third is that I cannot stand when there are lose items in sets. There is a desk that has no home. I shoved it in on the front walk way to give it somewhere to go. Did not need to be part of this. There are chairs that do not attach anywhere, and the display sign is useless. Lego tried to make this playable in some ways and a display set in some ways and by doing so, made it neither.Fourth is the stickers. The amount of stickers is mind-boggling. This set costs $400. For that money I should not see a single sticker. Yet they are absolutely everywhere. This needs to end for adult sets. You want to charge adult prices, then adults who pay those prices want quality with what they buy and notice every little thing that is not up to standards unlike many children. Step it up or step the price down. Pick one.Fifth is the build. I have built many modulars and structures with modular components. This reads like a modular, only the levels do not come apart. That is fine, they don't need to come apart, but they really need to be more challenging to build. The fan who is buying this set is someone with the money, time, and desire for a long build. This could be handled by an 8 year old and still done in one day. Make it detailed, complex, yet fun. Make the piece count matter instead of just using more pieces where you could have used less to drive up the count.Sixth is the colors. What do these colors have to do with anything related to Diagon Alley? Nothing that is what. These are cartoonish, child-like, and baseless in design.Overall this set leaves you with a lot to desire, but mostly that desire is just wanting your money back.
