To start with the value for this set is great. It's a mid sized technic set so you can't expect tons of detail or accuracy however, on this mid sized model I think LEGO did a fantastic job. The images of this set don't do it justice. I was a little put off by the fact that the wheels look slightly small compared to the rest of the model but you hardly notice that once it's built because it's such a striking model. I own Technic sets much bigger than this particular model, but it's still one of my favorite. If you like Technic but don't have a lot of money to spend on a larger set, this is perfect. I would have to say that if your a stickler for perfection then the wheel size might bother you, especially the rear wheels, as there is a pretty sizeable gap between the fender and the rear tires. But for anyone looking for an affordable, fun, and relatively accurate model this set is perfect.

I then pull out of these bags only the bits as illustrated for the particular stage being built - usually from 2 to 10 or 12 parts. I have to search thro' the bags for each stage which slows things down a fair bit... but it works. This Corvette builds quite well. There are only 8 stickers, all quite large and easily placed. There are a few pictures in the manual where the build is obscured but usually it is logical & obvious anyway. Main criticism of the end result is that the rear wheels are too small for the arches, or the arches too big for the wheels, otherwise it looks ok. The remote steering feature could be better - the operating knob on back of the rear panel has too much axle poking out - a bit ugly. The "working engine" feature is gimmicky but works well. Although I still have to add the rear wing as the crucial short axle connector is missing from my set and I have no spare... a part is on the way :-) Overall this 'vette looks not bad when finished (if you like the Technic effect) and is reasonable value for money.

The Corvette looks good in orange but this set does not have enough functionality for the price. I expect a good function for every £10 and can count only the steering, engine and differential gear, not enough for £40 RRP. As usual for a LEGO Technic set, the steering should turn more than it does; this needs systematic improvement in most vehicle sets. I like the engine as a development of the engine from the Mack Anthem truck 42078; I have extended the idea in my own builds with the Great Ball Contraption in mind. I like the wheels; smooth tyres for thin wheels have been a long time coming; I hope to see these wheels in more sets. The orange pieces are nice but it is a challenge to find other uses for the wheel arches; I was thinking about a Clown Fish (Nemo); I ... MoreThe Corvette looks good in orange but this set does not have enough functionality for the price. Overall, the price-per-piece of the Corvette is not bad but, as a Technic set, the LEGO company should try harder in the play experience and number of mechanisms per unit cost.

I haven't built Lego since I was in my early teens in the early 2000s. My fiancee are always doing puzzles in the evenings as a way to unwind after a whole day of work and playing with their kids - so I thought I might try and build some Lego to do something else than sit infront of the TV all night.I was not dissappointed - I had totally forgot how much fun it is! Build time was about 4 hours for me, but since I used the wrong pieces for the engine part at the start of the build, at least an hour was spend de-assembling and using the right parts...I can't wait for my next set to arrive so I can start building again.(The only "problem" I have is that my 2,5yo now won't let the finished set out of his sight, so I'm quite sure I will have to rebuild it soon since the odds are quite low that he will drop it and I have to do a scavenger hunt all over the house for the pieces - but hey, then I can try out the Hot Rod-build with this set!)

Great introduction into Lego Technic
1 May 2020

A little about me at first, I am an avid car enthusiast and I have just started building and painting plastic model car kits. This has been my first Lego set in years. I wanted to try Lego Technic for its moving mechanical components as opposed to the curbside plastic models I glue and paint. I saw this Chevy Corvette and thought why not try it out (as it was cheaper than all other Technic car sets) and its colour is really eye popping. I read all the reviews on this particular model and despite some of the negative feedback, I decided to purchase it.The build experience was a pleasure to the point that I was pacing myself and doing a bit each day to stretch it out over a week and building my corvette was my favourite part of the day to look forward to. The mechanical components like the V8 engine and rear differential assembly were incredibly fun to build. The model itself after being completed resembles a Chevrolet Corvette pretty accurately. Keyword here is resembles... If you are looking for a model replica of the Corvette, look into buying a plastic model kit, not this kit. With what pieces Lego had provided with this kit, I think they did an excellent job. This model now stands beside my other plastic model kits and I will be purchasing other Technic sets after this fun experience.

The other half has been saying I need to try the Technic's kits but I have been resisting as all those tiny little gears and cogs were putting me off. Why? Why did I let that put me off? This was a really fun build although the fact that it comes with a plethora of bags (okay i think it was 4) that are not numbered so you need to open them all before you start the build. My table was covered in pieces because I have to lay everything out in colour and piece order. Yes, it makes building easier for me but it also looks kind of pretty on the table. No joke, half an hour of the build time was just me sorting pieces before I even opened the booklet.I'm not sure how close the finished product is to a genuine Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 but it looks great on my shelf which ... MoreThe other half has been saying I need to try the Technic's kits but I have been resisting as all those tiny little gears and cogs were putting me off. I've got some significant Lego builds under my belt including the USC Millennium Falcon, but I've not yet built a strictly Technic set. Since I have my eye on the Bugatti Chiron Technic set, I wanted to get used to the Technic theme before investing in such an expensive set as the Bugatti ($349.99). For the cost of the Corvette ZR1 set ($49.99), you get good experience in putting together a vehicle with a few of the technical features of the Bugatti such as the firing pistons, open differential and working steering. True, there are big differences in the Bugatti such as the doors and hood don't open in the ZR1, the steering is done from the back instead of the steering wheel, and the Bugatti is a way more complicated build from what I can see; However I believe ... MoreI've got some significant Lego builds under my belt including the USC Millennium Falcon, but I've not yet built a strictly Technic set. And in the end I also wound up with a pretty nice overall model of Lego's Corvette ZR1. Also, with this model you do get some rare pieces that I'm sure people who build their own creations would appreciate. Overall this was an enjoyable experience, and I would recommend.

Yes, the steering system is compact and works very well, and the lack of small stickers (or many stickers at all) is nice, but those are pretty much my only 2 pros about this set. This set has the most holes, gaps, and wrong-colored pieces that I have ever seen in a Technic set (yes, counting the Porsche 911 RSR). The engine has so much friction that you really have to push down hard for the car to move, somehow steering at the same time, and looks weird sticking out through the hood with brown-and-yellow pistons (yes, I said brown-and-yellow pistons). The head and tail lights are crude, and the back and front ends are barely recognizable as a ends of a running, driving car, and the pieces under the non-opening ... MoreWhen I bought this set, I expected more than I got. For a $50 set, I was expecting many more functions and looks than I got.If you are looking for a lego vehicle, car, or sports car, I recommend buying something else. If you love Chevrolets or Corvettes, I would recommend waiting until Lego comes out with something better.

Rebrickable is the way to go!

PROS:- A bunch of cool parts to add to my collection- Lots of quality MOCs to find online (see attached image)- B-model (hot rod) isn't too bad, aesthetically- Moving "fake" engine parts- Rear end looks okay-ish- As with most Technic builds, an enjoyable time spent regardless of the final outcome- An easy build that poses a few minor challenges even for adults (but probably not experienced LEGO builders)- Quality genuine LEGO parts; always fun to snap together!CONS:- Looks NOTHING like a Corvette (hence the 1-star for "Quality"; the parts are in fact of a very high quality, as we've all come to expect from LEGO)- Should've been labelled as a generic sports car, not licensed by GM- Extremely limited steering angle (large turning radius at full-lock)- No ... MorePROS:- A bunch of cool parts to add to my collection- Lots of quality MOCs to find online (see attached image)- B-model (hot rod) isn't too bad, aesthetically- Moving "fake" engine parts- Rear end looks okay-ish- As with most Technic builds, an enjoyable time spent regardless of the final outcome- An easy build that poses a few minor challenges even for adults (but probably not experienced LEGO builders)- Quality genuine LEGO parts; always fun to snap together!CONS:- Looks NOTHING like a Corvette (hence the 1-star for "Quality"; the parts are in fact of a very high quality, as we've all come to expect from LEGO)- Should've been labelled as a generic sports car, not licensed by GM- Extremely limited steering angle (large turning radius at full-lock)- No added functionality (doors, hood, adjustable spoiler, etc)- Spoiler looks absolutely ridiculous- The roof/front pillars are very lazily designed- Horrible ride height (tiny wheels don't fill up the wheel wells)Overall, I would avoid this set, unless you are interested in going to a site like Rebrickable and checking out the custom alternate builds people have done for this set. Absolutely atrocious design! I'm surprised GM wanted their name on this, it should've been released as a generic Technic sports car, rather than an officially branded one.It was still fun to build, and there are a lot of cool pieces that can be added to your collection, especially given that orange (and in these shapes) aren't commonly used in official LEGO sets. The ONLY reason I recommend this build at such a low rating, is because of the custom builds you can make with JUST the pieces from this set. Such is with the attached picture, called "Le Mans Racer" by Grohl, free instructions on rebrickable.com. Honestly, the only reason I even considered buying this set at all.

Rebuild Value!
1 January 2019

For reference this is my first technic build in years but I had to purchase this as soon as I saw my favorite corvette built after 1969 (stingray). When I saw the rear differential on page 1 I was immediately excited to see what internals this build had in store. The overall design of this set is wonderful with the detail in the motor really shining through. The pistons on this model actually fire and are truly unique to this set as far as I know. They are connected to the rear wheels which is a nice touch considering the zr1 is a rear wheel drive vehicle. I am also very impressed with the turning system. It adds a layer of playability aven for older builders. This set isn't visually perfect but it is always difficult to create curves on a small scale model like ... MoreFor reference this is my first technic build in years but I had to purchase this as soon as I saw my favorite corvette built after 1969 (stingray). It adds a layer of playability aven for older builders. This set isn't visually perfect but it is always difficult to create curves on a small scale model like this one. The interior of this model is lacking slightly with only 2 racing seats and a steering wheel but I buy technic sets mainly for the mechanical attributes regardless. I also wish that the doors opened but again it is a smaller model and space is at a premium. It comes with 7 extra parts that are all small and easy to lose track of so they were well chosen and appreciated. The most unique part is the rebuild value of this 2in1 set. It can also be made into a hot rod using online instructions. These instructions are, however, not yet available in the website so I cannot yet build it. Hopefully this is fixed in the future as I am looking forward to disassembling and rebuilding this set. Overall this was one of my favorite builds in memory and I highly recommend it. I hope Lego makes more 2in1 sets like this in the future.
