I'm writing this review because I've had this laptop for almost a year now and I'm buying another one for my Mom. I'm going with the Gen 3 AMD version with the Ryzen 7 because CPUBenchmark.net gives it a score of 16,552!!! (compared to my current intel i5-1135G7 at 10,187 or even the i7-1165G7 at 10,670). Going back to the Gen 2 Intel that I have, it's been a really fast laptop and no major issues at all. The first few months there were some issues with the finger print reader not registering but after about 3 BIOS updates it seems to be working without issues (I didn't bother trying to figure out the issue, Lenovo just pushed the BIOS updates). The mouse pad Tracks nicely and the light up keyboard feels great and convenient. The build quality is really good, the feel of this laptop is metal and good weight (not too heavy or too light). The finger print reader is a nice addition. I keep on forgetting that the screen is touch screen, I really haven't used it much. One of the main reasons I bought this laptop is because I was SO TIRED of the high glossy laptops you can buy at the big box retailers and also wanted to connect more than one screen. I don't think any other manufacturer can't beat Lenovo's price for the specifications on this laptop. Go with the one with at least 16 GB because I am using 8GB with just the browser open. The i5 and the i7 didn't have much of a performance difference based on the CPUBenchmark.net score so I saved about $50 to stick with the i5 (turbo speed 4.2 vs 4.7 Hz). If you're looking at the AMD Gen 3 Ryzen version of this Thinkbook, there's a significant performance difference between the Ryzen 5 and 7, but they're both extremely fast so you really can't go wrong with either. I run this machine as a desktop two monitors on this laptop using the Lenovo mini docking station (based on the tech sheet, you can run up to 3 monitor using the thunderbolt 4 connection which I haven't attempted since its really Thunderbolt 4 stuff is expensive). The fan is quiet, only gets loud during updates or multitasking. Overall, I've had a good experience with this machine and decided to buy a 2nd one but the newer model.

I finally admitted defeat when it came to storage space - 256GB required constant management and attention to make sure I wasn't going to drown in files. Then there was that resolution issue - I finally had to admit to myself that I needed lower resolution, bigger text - and more screen area. The price point for the Thinkbook 15 was right;l but more importantly, it came with 16GB of RAM and 526GB SSD - with a second available slot for a second TB SSD. It shipped when promised and arrived ready to upgrade to Windows 11. After loading it up - much of it with lessons that I'd formerly stored on external media, I've been at work with it non-stop.While one manner of reviewing hardware can go down the road of benchmarking and statistics, that can all be found online and in magazine reviews. I'd rather talk about the high points and fill you in on what delights me. So....16GB of RAM make the computer wicked fast - especially when it comes to Internet access and movement. Speaking of fast, it's pretty clear that the WiFi hardware is significantly better than anything else I was using - almost twice as fast! In this era of Zoom, I am very happy with the camera and it's ability to pick up low lighting - to say nothing of having a moveable screen to adjust so I can present a better picture to others. While I have relatively little use for the added 10=key that a 15" screen allows for, I know my wife will appreciate it come tax time. Sound-wise, it also excels.I'm old fashioned - touch screens aren't valuable to me. I also don't need a dual use screen. I didn't look for all the bells and whistles now available - and I wound up extremely happy with what I finally got!

Excellent laptop, it's expensive but I feel like it's worth it's bang for the buck (which is usually the case considering tech is highly competitive). So far, the only cons are the speaker quality and the track pad. The track pad is okay but sometimes it gets a little tricky if your hands aren't in pristine condition. They both do the job well enough and they are upgrade-able if I purchase a secondary mouse and speakers. However, I will be giving it 2 stars and will not change until the following problem has been fixed: I did not buy this laptop for the sound, it has fairly low quality speakers. This would be fine, but the left audio speaker is clearly broken. I bought this for work, so I did not find this out until about a month after purchasing. Desperately needed replacement
14 April 2022

I have only had this computer for about a month now, after dropping my Toshiba and breaking it. I desperately needed a replacement as I was scheduled to take an on-line proctored exam in less than two weeks. The keyboard is nice, the keys are silent when you type. I selected the version without a touch screen and it seems to be having less issues than my previous laptop (that had a touch screen). The monitor is large enough and clear. I do a lot of work with excel so it was important to have a large enough screen for easier reading. The only negative is that when I am streaming the computer seems to encounter a lot of lag; this could be more of an internet provider issue. It was easy to set up as long as you remember your Microsoft account log in!

Fast little laptop. Poor Thunderbolt Compatability
23 May 2022

I purchased this laptop, along with a lenovo universal thunderbolt 4 dock. The computer IS capable of putting out 2 streams of 4k video at 60hz, while keeping the monitor on. However, in order to do that you MUST use both the USB4/TB4 port AND the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. In this configuration i had no problems. However, if you try to use JUST the thunderbolt port, you MUST lower the refresh rate of the monitors to 30hz.Its very odd to me because this should work. The computer can push the signal, thunderbolt 4 is capable of outputting the bandwidth, but when you plug them into the lenovo dock, it just doesnt work. Maybe its a Displayport over USB situation and you require both ports? IDK. This a great laptop from Lenovo! It is my second purchase of the ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 in less than 6 months. The laptop is being used mostly for work, lots of long excel sheets, quickbooks and media consumption.Rarely does the laptop ever get hot at the touch even after playing a movie for an hour.Battery is good, it's better than average and can easily last me a day of meetings using spreadsheets and 2-5 shorts video calls. The anti-glare screen is really great, specially as summer is approaching. Working from home and the sun shinning from all conners, the screen does a good job reducing glare. The laptop has enough ports to connect most things without needing a dongle. And i am happy Lenovo used USB-C as a port for charging instead of a proprietary port. This will make it easier to replace the cable if it get's damaged and I can use the port for other things too. I hope in future revisions, they can separate the charging block from the usb-c wire. It would be easier finding just a USB c to USB c wire and not having to throw away working parts if the block still works but the usb C wire is damaged. One thing I wish was better is the speaker. They are okay for the sound they produce but I would like them to have more punch to them.Overall it's a great laptop and would recommend it. If you aren't going to use the number pad much, get the 14 inch model and you will not regret it, these screens feel up much of the space on the laptop cover so they seem larger than regular 14 inch laptops and it will be more portable.

MAC Guy Goes PC Route - For Now
17 September 2021

I am usually a Mac guy. In fact, I have not used a PC since the early 2000's. But my business really is best suited for the PC world and I wanted something that had a touch screen, was easy to use, and could run the programs I needed to run. I found this Laptop as a refurbished unit with a 2 year warranty so I took the plunge.I did a TON of research before purchasing and wanted a laptop with a fast enough process and decent memory. I also wanted a touch screen and an "extended" keyboard (you know, with the calculator on the side). I wanted a brand name so it came down to Lenovo, HP, and Dell. And to be honest, I had not made up mind until I chatted with a Lenovo rep.She was great. She answered all of my questions, suggested a few laptops to consider, and steered me away from computers that were just "too much." I am not a gamer, not a photo editor or videographer. I just needed something reliable to run my business software and that wouldn't crash every 10 minutes. It has taken a little bit to get used the Windows interface after being on Macs for so long. And I wish the built in keypad was not so sensitive (I bought an external mouse to alleviate that annoying thing.) And the fingerprint reader doesn't always read my fingerprints (a minor annoyance.) But overall, it is a great machine and I hope to run it until it is obsolete - so about 6 months....

Solid Choice
6 July 2021

When my husband found this ThinkBook, I was not excited until I experienced the specs in action, and they performed better than I expected! The processor is fast! The keyboard travels smoothly for quick typing, and it has a number pad to boot. It wakes up quickly, and I can have many windows opened without it slowing down my work. The touch screen is a nice feature; it's anti-glare so no annoying reflections. There's a lot of small things that add to the overall value: it's lightweight with a sleek design; the camera privacy shutter is a bonus, so I don't have to put a piece of tape over my camera....LOL!; the screen is brighter than standard at 300 nits, so much less eye strain. As a teacher this laptop serves all my professional & personal needs :)
