To let in the word pro in this type of product, might set the expectations a bit too high. It's a toy.. And in that category i find it a bit expensive. The focus ring is a bit wobbly, which makes it really hard to use for video. The tilt ball has a wobbly feel to it as well, but i would always keep that fixed in a video situation. When that is said, it is a super fun toy, that challenges your manual skills and support your understanding of photography. For photo it is a cool little creative tool that actually can make the shot of the day when mounted on the camera. The last star would have been given, if the last built quality was there, so the price was matching expectations.

Nice little lens (optic) with a camera adapter that is on no value to me. However, since ALL Lensbaby lenses and optics are fully manual, all that I needed was an adapter that would go from this Fuji to a Nikon Z. Now, with this fuji being ½ the price of the same adapter in Nikon Z configuration, it was a simple matter of picking up an adapter Fuji to Nikon Z. I did that and have an excellent little kit for my Z cameras and at half the price it would have been had I purchased a Nikon Composer Pro I.I have done this with several lenses and there is really no issue, so long as the lens being adapted isFully manual.

I have just started using Lensbaby lenses. This lens is manual focus, at set 50mm. The effects range from minor at about aperture 4.5 and higher. The more wide open to max 2.8, the effects are more pronounced. This lens has a sweet spot of focus and the blur goes out in a circle. Looks like exploding out. The tilt allows you to put that sweet spot to the side, or top or bottom. Needs practice to see what it can do for you. I really like it !

I had my eye on the Edge 35 for a while and was thrilled when they were back in stock. I love the Edge 35 highlights the subject with a slice of focus while the rest of the photo falls into a nice blur. I like how you can make that slice of focus bigger or smaller when changing the aperture. The slice of focus can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal depending on how you tilt the composer II body. It can also turn into a standard 35mm lens if you leave the composer II straight (no tilt).I am very happy with my purchase!
The Lensbaby does take more time to compose a shot but that's part of the fun. Yes, it does take a bit of practice to find the sweet spot but once you do, you can get some beautiful shots. I found that it helps inspire creativity, which has made me excited about shooting again. I'm a bit old school when it comes to photography so I use manual mode to shoot. I was able to get some nice shots the first time out with it but if you're not use to manual focus then it will take some practice. When I received my lens I did notice that the Sweet 35 optic was backwards with the f-stops facing the opposite side so I had to take it out and put it back in the proper position. It was no big deal and I found it pretty easy to do. I mention this just in case anymore are shipped ... MoreThe Lensbaby does take more time to compose a shot but that's part of the fun. Make sure your f-stops line up with the white dots on the Lensbaby body per the instructions provided. If you are someone who prefers auto focus, than this is probably not the lens for you. All in all I'm really happy with the Lensbaby and already want some more optics to use with it.
This is my second Composer Pro II, I have owned one for another camera mount for some time. One of the advantages of the Composer Pro II is there are several optics available, each of which challenges creativity in a different way. My disappointment with this unit? The optic, which is designed to be modular, does not come with a rear lens cap. So next time I am in B&H I need to drop ten bucks for a plastic cover. Not a big deal, but I have never before purchased a lens or optic from any company, including Lensbaby, that did not come with a cover to protect the rear of the lens when not in use. Don't misunderstand, this is a quality product with great creative possibilities, I just think protection for the optic should have been included.
I love this lens. The usefulness to price ratio is very high in my opinion. It's helpful when it comes to adding that extra magic touch to photos that would otherwise be too plain. I also use it for cinematography, which lends itself to much more artistic shots with little extra effort. I like that you can choose to either lock the sweet spot position into place or keep it loose. Setting the sweet spot and focus takes a couple minutes to get used to before it becomes second nature, but in the grand scheme of things, a couple minutes isn't very much when making something second nature. The one thing I was a tiny bit disappointed by is that the focus ring seems to be a little loose so it's easy to nudge it out of focus by accident, but I'm sure I'll get used to it ... MoreI love this lens. The creative apertures are really cool. I used the heart for a wedding video and it was perfect to see the heart-shaped bokeh in the background while the couple was performing their first dance. All around, this lens is a really fun addition to the bag of tricks.
The pop Ad attract my eyeballs and complete the whole deal in less 1 minute. About 2 weeks waiting and continues track where it is, it appears on my desk suddenly. It is my first experience to use such a manual lens, neither to mention its shift function( without tilt). In general, I enjoy the pleasure come from the famous lens at such reasonable price. But my 6d is not powerful as sony a7riii, the focus system won't provide any difference from focused or not. This is the only one thing could be improved I believe.
The original composer really got me excited about photography again. I had a Canon 5D MkII and was doing more video than photography at the time. I had one gray day outdoors with a couple willing models shooting scenes for music video and some stills. I played up the gray day look and desaturated the photos in post. The stills are quite interesting on their own, but the opportunity for video is even greater IMO, due to the beautiful animated blur of color and light surrounding the frame as well as the subject itself. My 2nd opportunity to use it was at a small Irish bar in DC where my daughter and her band were performing. It was a very tight space, dark as night, with very limited stage lighting. My 2nd opportunity to use it was at a small Irish bar in DC where my daughter and her band were performing. It was a very tight space, dark as night, with very limited stage lighting. Another videographer hired by their band manager was set up in the back of the room w/ a pro Sony or Panasonic of some sort. One look at the room/stage and I was like... this is dead. I'm not gonna get anything worth editing. But, I'm all about testing equipment in bad situations. I was right up front, 10' from the tiny stage. I put on the Lensbaby Composer and the Telephoto lens (which screws on the front of the original Composer). It was so dark, I was at 6400 ISO, shooting 1/30sec with either the 1.4 aperture ring or none at all. Focus was a challenge, obviously plus I didn't bring a monitor. The on-screen image looked really cool. I was amazed beyond words as it looked WAY BETTER through the camera than my own eyes. I'm sure someone said (before me) that the beauty is in the blur. It's never been more true than with this lens. With other lenses, you set up a shot for short DOF and have mostly just the z-index to work with. With the Lensbaby, you have the blur surrounding the focal area as well, which takes all of the distracting elements of your frame and blurs them out with a somewhat radial appearance. Not so much like a motion blur (like light rays), but softer/rounder. If you were using a prime lens w/ wide aperture, the background may be soft bokeh/blur, but there could still be distracting elements around the subject, close to the same focal distance. With the Lensbaby, shoulder mount moving/follow focus with a subject creates so much interest and drama in areas of the frame that would otherwise be visual clutter and annoying camera shake particularly distant elements. Pointed light sources, color and form variations take on a completely different look as they animate with the moving camera and subject. The fact that the subject goes in and out of focus as you follow adds to the drama. The lens flare completes the look in a very organic way and allows for more natural look when you cheat in more flare in post. When I looked at the footage later, I was even more amazed at how good it looked. It was magic. The 6400 ISO looks fairly decent on the MkII, but with the Lensbaby, the grain mattered even less. In contrast to my DSLR footage, the other camera looked awful. Flat as hell, grainy, dark... completely useless IMO. A couple years later, I happened to have this in my bag at a professional interview shoot in a tight hotel room. I was B camera to a DP with a Sony FS700. Because of the placement of his lighting, even pretty close to him, I had no decent shot with any of my lenses. Lens flare and background elements would have made my footage unusable. But, in a bad situation, sometimes you have to go radical and pretend it was intentional. The B-camera footage with the Lensbaby provided a great contrast to the crisp professional look of the A-camera. Lens Flare, lots of blur and bokeh, subject in and out of focus, soft production shots. It really made for a unique finished product. I was a little surprised the 'conservative' editor used the footage, but it looked really cool and different. Now, for the specifics on this new Composer. The most important thing for me is the tighter focus ring. If you don't do video, you don't need the new Composer, but the sloppy focus ring is a big problem for video shooters. The on-the-lens aperture seems unneccesary as I typical keep the same aperture ring in place. With this new one, I also can't attach my telephoto lens, which in some ways I though was better than their new 85mm I bought and returned (not enough blur/bokeh and not macro at all). For whatever reason, I hardly use the sweet35 either. Whenever I have low light and/or an ugly scene, I reach for the Lensbaby first. Candid portraits look soooo nice. I probably didn't need this new one just for the tighter focus. I'd probably recommend just get the old one and the tele/wide lens kit. But, do get one 'cause it's magic.
I have loved using this new lens/optic. There is a learning curve as you have to manually focus, and adjust aperature on the lens and shoot in manual mode. When using a more narrow aperature, your view is darkened so you have to trust in your light meter. This could be frustrating to someone new to manual shooting. A new challenge is just what I needed...The effects are beautiful, similar to free-lensing without having to worry about too much light spilling in between the lens and camera. Now that I am getting better at using the lens, making beautiful images with it and using it intently and thoughtfully are the challenges. I wanted a tilt-shift lens but couldn't justify the expense on something that wasn't 100% necessary for my business. Though different than a ... MoreI have loved using this new lens/optic. Though different than a tilt shift lens, this offers a different perspective than a regular lens and it is just what I was looking for.
