No disrespect what-so-ever to the other reviewer, but I love these notebooks. I write with a fountain pen, typically fine or extra-fine, with a wide variety of ink brands. The
journal I am writing in now has been written in with Diamine, Rohrer and Klingner, Mont Blanc, Robert Oster, Pelikan, Noodler's, and DeArtements inks, all with very good
results.I have not seen any skipping or uneven sizing on any of the pages, and the paper is certainly fountain pen friendly. There is ~some~ visibility from writing on the other
side of the pages, but not a great deal with the nibs I use. If you write with a medium or broad nib, you might see more of that than I have seen, but I have used a... Show more

This is a very high-quality notebook that handles liquid/fountain pen ink very well. Whilst ghosting is visible when writing with a fountain pen, ink does not bleed through the
paper in this notebook. Each page is numbered and a blank contents page is included in the notebook to allow you to index your notes. The hardback cover is of good quality,
and the folder behind the back cover is sturdier than other notebooks. Overall, I am impressed with the quality of this notebook, which is much better than my previous
Moleskine book.

If you write with a medium or broad nib, you might see more of that than I have seen, but I have used a 1.1 stub with no issues. I have not seen any bleed-through or blotting, although I would prefer a slightly heavier bond paper as long as the page count was not reduced. The page color is pale ivory while the lines are black and very thin - think 0.2 mechanical pencil line thickness. The binding is clean and tight, even after filling the entire notebook and having packed it all over for months at a time. There are two marker ribbons bound in the spine, rather than just one, which I find particularly handy, and the cover color options are fantastic. The boards are slightly soft, so they can get mildly dented over time, but generally speaking, these hold up very well to rough treatment.I use these for my daily journals and change ink colors as my pen needs refilling, hence the wide variety of inks used and have never run into any issues with any ink. While there are certainly other journals with good paper, cover colors, etc. out there, but for me, the 1917 is my go-to journal for daily writing and I plan on ordering more of these once my stock of blanks is used up.... Great texture but minimal sheen
30 August 2022
I have filled up a few of these as a part of my daily journaling regime, and they've been great. The paper has a slightly rough texture which I prefer due to the feedback that it provides even with the smoothest nibs. I find that with paper that is too smooth, it is like writing on glass which in turn makes writing a bit less controlled. But with these notebooks I find that the rougher texture provides a sort of "grip" that I enjoy. The ivory/off white color is only just enough to differentiate it from a regular white paper, but doesn't have that severely yellow color that you find in something like a Rhodia ivory. These things along with the little features such as the labels for archiving, the pocket, having page numbers and the pocket make these little things ... MoreI have filled up a few of these as a part of my daily journaling regime, and they've been great. These things along with the little features such as the labels for archiving, the pocket, having page numbers and the pocket make these little things great. The only caveat I have found after writing in a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook which I had purchased for school, along with some cheapy office depot graph paper, is that the sheening and shading qualities of this paper are really not fantastic. Granted, this isn't the case with every ink, but I have found for the most part that for most inks you will not see every quality and hue brought out by this paper, which I find to be disappointing. Writing on any other paper has shown me what I have been missing as far as more nuanced qualities go, and I'm sad that I can't experience that in what I have determined to be my favorite notebook thus far. But regardless it's still a good notebook and I wouldn't recommend against buying one. The attached photo just shows some various ink swabs, the sample of Organics Studio nitrogen was very, very noticeable.... Show more

Leuchtturm 1917 Classic Hardcover Notebook A5 Medium Dots / Lilac
9 September 2024
This is my journal and diary, having been introduced to the Bullet Journal style of journalling some years ago. All my diaries are stored and indexed together. I love the page number ref and the index so I can see at a glance the important info I have catalogued. I love the dots so I can write landscape and portrait and do lines where I want. I can even draw in it. I love the stickers in the back pocket so I can identify dates of diary on spine and front cover when I am finished with it and I love that the last 8 pages are removable as I use these to summarise my journey and remove them, placing them in the handy pocket in the next one. Thus keeping my wisdom keeping for long term review. Thank you.... Show more

I use these notebooks all the time. I find they suit me perfectly for all my professional notetaking. I use the index at the front, the pocket at the back and I use the end sheets for my to do lists. I love the notebooks more than I can ever say. I have tried others and none are as good (particularly for a fountain pen user. I have had most colours. I keep all my notebooks, but from time to time I have to throw them out - it is a sad day.... Show more

I love Leuchtturm. I was a Moleskine fan for years but have become increasingly tired of the poor quality of them and the fact anything other than pencil or biro bleeds through them or feathers.None of this with the Leuchtturm. Minimal bleeding and feathering when using fountain pens. Consistent quality. Page numbering and detachable pages really helps journallying. I cannot recommend these enoufh.... Show more

nice, just what i expected and more

I am using it to bullet journal in the minimalist style. I use Noodler's Eel Black in a 1.5mm Pilot Parallel pen for the headings, bullets and borders and either a Monteverde teal or Noodler's Polar Brown in two Fine nib pens. The paper is marginally thicker than regular loose-leaf, so the thicker ink marks confuse me sometimes as I write on the other side of a page, but it's still a wonderful notebook: practical, efficient, my favorite color with other options, and I'm looking forward to sticking on the organizing labels once I finish. I open it several times a day and it shows no sign of wearing out; it just gets more comfortable to use. I double-knotted each ribbon and the texture of each ensures there's no danger of them slipping out and fraying. (I use one ... MoreI am using it to bullet journal in the minimalist style. Very nice
29 September 2023
The journal is as shown in the photos. The colours are accurate. Very pretty colours. Nice hard cover. The paper is on the thinner side, so you can see your writing on the reverse. I mainly write only on one side. For journalling this can be good because when you re-read your entry, you still have room on the reverse side to add some extra thoughts as you think of them. I write mainly horizontally, and when I add my extra thoughts on the reverse side, I write them vertically. I like that the dot grid helps you can write neat and straight in either direction. It's lovely, smooth paper. It's a rather nice quality binding, it's both glued and sewn and opens fairly flat. I like the ribbon and the pocket. If you're not in the habit of ripping pages out of your journal (mistakes), the numbering is nice. The table of contents on the front is a nice touch--I may go back and fill that in later. An enjoyable journalling experience. Depending on the ink and nib you use, you may get some ghosting--I found this happens if I use a glass dip pen with De Atramentis Document Ink. I get mostly no ghosting if I use a (somewhat dry) fine nib with Noodler's X-Feather in Blue or Black, Noodler's Polar Black, or Noodler's Red Fox. I tend to like larger journals so my hand is freer. I did like this journal so much, I went nuts and ordered three more from Leuchtturm1917 in the larger size.... Show more
