At first I thought the B5 size would be cumbersome, but it's my go-to for work meetings. And of course, who doesn't love all the beautiful features of a Leuchtturm 1917
notebook but in a bigger size! Love the cream-colored paper, and how the dot grid is comfortably spaced, as well as the thoughtful pocket on the back-cover. And I constantly
refer to my Index at the front of the notebook. Love all the covers too!

I don't know why it took me so long to try Leuchtturm. I've been Journaling on and off all my life, and I've tried hobonichi techo planners, regular lined notebooks, and various
formats of planners. But as soon as I bought Leuchtturm, it was a game changer. It was the one! The unboxing experience was so nice with all the little inspiration cards and
quotes. It really made my inner writer giggle with excitement and I felt so creative. I got the dotted A5 notebook in sage, and its just such a pretty color. The paper feels nice,
although a little bit see through when I use a fountain pen, but no issue if I just use regular pen. I've already ordered another notebook for 2022, so excited!

The notebook is that small. As a fan of Leuchtturm, the notebook's quality is top notch. I used this notebook earlier this year for a job, and it did amazingly. It survived drops, falls, and being constantly opened and closed. I used a regular store pen with this notebook, and it worked really well. I was able to use the band surrounding the notebook to hold both the pen and the notebook in case I had to write stuff down. I liked that the pages were numbered, and there's a significant amount of room to write things. While doing the job, I had to write down so much information, to the point where this notebook ended up being my job diary. Over the course of about 6 months, I wrote in it every time I had to go to work. At the end of my job, I ended up using the entire journal. This journal was nice too because I was able to keep all the loose papers given to me in the handy pocket located in the back. It was nice to have all of the information related to my job at my fingertips. If you're someone that likes to write a lot though, this notebook might not be for you. Due to the A6 size, it is pocket size, but it also has significantly less pages than a traditional Lechtturm 1917 A5 journal. If you prefer to collect items and use your journal as a scrapbook, this journal is also not for you, since if it holds anything besides papers, it can get pretty bulky. In my opinion, this journal is good for taking quick notes/quick sketches, and holds up well for everyday use.All in all, this was a perfect pocket journal. I would highly suggest getting this journal if you need a journal that can easily be stashed away, a journal for quick notes, and a durable journal. If I ever needed this journal for another job, I would order this again.... Show more

No disrespect what-so-ever to the other reviewer, but I love these notebooks. I write with a fountain pen, typically fine or extra-fine, with a wide variety of ink brands. The journal I am writing in now has been written in with Diamine, Rohrer and Klingner, Mont Blanc, Robert Oster, Pelikan, Noodler's, and DeArtements inks, all with very good results.I have not seen any skipping or uneven sizing on any of the pages, and the paper is certainly fountain pen friendly. There is ~some~ visibility from writing on the other side of the pages, but not a great deal with the nibs I use. If you write with a medium or broad nib, you might see more of that than I have seen, but I have used a 1.1 stub with no issues. I have not seen any bleed-through or blotting, although I would prefer a slightly heavier bond paper as long as the page count was not reduced. The page color is pale ivory while the lines are black and very thin - think 0.2 mechanical pencil line thickness. The binding is clean and tight, even after filling the entire notebook and having packed it all over for months at a time. There are two marker ribbons bound in the spine, rather than just one, which I find particularly handy, and the cover color options are fantastic. The boards are slightly soft, so they can get mildly dented over time, but generally speaking, these hold up very well to rough treatment.I use these for my daily journals and change ink colors as my pen needs refilling, hence the wide variety of inks used and have never run into any issues with any ink. While there are certainly other journals with good paper, cover colors, etc. out there, but for me, the 1917 is my go-to journal for daily writing and I plan on ordering more of these once my stock of blanks is used up.... The BEST journaling notebooks EVER. My truest art is my writing and I will spend any amount of money to get the best. Thankfully, these notebooks are not expensive - yes, more than some, but worth every penny. The different sizes are so nice too - whether you want a purse-sized book or a large journal. I prefer the lined pages and have a tendency to only write on the right-side pages. I use Pigma's Micron 05 archival ink, which can be a bit "heavier" than regular pens like a Pilot, which I also use a lot (Pilot Precise Rolling Ball V5). There is no bleed through, but I can see the Micron pen marks on the other side when I use a heavy hand or scratch things out. My ink does not feather, and captures my writings as precise as I want to be. My lined notebooks come with page numbers and a space for the date. You cannot go wrong with this brand. They are sturdy, handy and pretty and I will continue to purchase more in the future.... Show more

Great texture but minimal sheen
30 August 2022
I have filled up a few of these as a part of my daily journaling regime, and they've been great. The paper has a slightly rough texture which I prefer due to the feedback that it provides even with the smoothest nibs. I find that with paper that is too smooth, it is like writing on glass which in turn makes writing a bit less controlled. But with these notebooks I find that the rougher texture provides a sort of "grip" that I enjoy. The ivory/off white color is only just enough to differentiate it from a regular white paper, but doesn't have that severely yellow color that you find in something like a Rhodia ivory. These things along with the little features such as the labels for archiving, the pocket, having page numbers and the pocket make these little things ... MoreI have filled up a few of these as a part of my daily journaling regime, and they've been great. These things along with the little features such as the labels for archiving, the pocket, having page numbers and the pocket make these little things great. The only caveat I have found after writing in a Maruman Mnemosyne notebook which I had purchased for school, along with some cheapy office depot graph paper, is that the sheening and shading qualities of this paper are really not fantastic. Granted, this isn't the case with every ink, but I have found for the most part that for most inks you will not see every quality and hue brought out by this paper, which I find to be disappointing. Writing on any other paper has shown me what I have been missing as far as more nuanced qualities go, and I'm sad that I can't experience that in what I have determined to be my favorite notebook thus far. But regardless it's still a good notebook and I wouldn't recommend against buying one.The attached photo just shows some various ink swabs, the sample of Organics Studio nitrogen was very, very noticeable.... Leuchtturm 1917 Classic Hardcover Notebook A5 Medium Dots / Stone Blue
25 May 2023
I really enjoy Leuchtturm notebooks because the paper quality is always decent and the quality doesn’t vary from notebook to notebook. Is it tomoe river? No but I don’t think it’s trying to compete with Tomoe River or Midori in terms of paper feel. There is a slight bit of ghosting when using fountain pens but no bleed through and the paper feels very smooth when writing with fountain pens even finer point ones which is always a plus.Would be nice if a pen loop was included but I understand why it isn’t.Overall a great product!... My New Favorite
24 January 2022
This is, as the title suggests, my new favorite notebook. I love how it feels in the hand. It looks timeless and feels solid. Frankly, the only "issues" I had with it were that some of the pages had extra glue near the spine and had to be pulled apart (which wasn't always pretty), but we're talking about fractions of a millimeter on the inside margins being stuck together in most cases, and there is some ghosting (NOT bleedthrough) that is pretty well known. The last 2 pages were more severely stuck together, and I did end up fraying the paper trying to separate them, but that seems to be an unlucky draw on my part and not common. The double bookmarks, page numbers, and included cover labels are all enough to make up the less-than-perfect paper in my opinion. My review of the Leuchtturm1917 A5 Notebook.
5 May 2021
The Leuchtturm1917 A5 is the perfect size for me. Fits nicely in my purse. This is a high quality notebook with many good features. I like the line spacing, I have small hands and can really put a lot of words into this journal. The ribbon bookmarks are sturdily attached. The elastic keeper is strong but doesn't cramp the book. A nice pocket in the back and classy stickers. The only downside is that occasionally a tiny fiber in the paper will minutely snag a fine nib pen. It isn't a problem, it's merely noticeable. There's a tiny amount of feedback with this paper, but still, good paper with even quality, no bleedthrough with Diamine, Pilot, Lamy and Noodler's ink (the beautiful but notorious Bay State Blue is an exception).
