Among its functionalities includes a log recording the opening/closing time.I strongly recommend it. So sure that I am going to buy a couple more.

First, you probably will need to replace your existing strike plate. The bolt is a bit larger than traditional bolts, and because the yahoos who owned my house before me wanted to have fun with 4” deck screws, I tried not to further gouge my door jamb. Still, the include strike plate was easy to install once I chiseled away some extra wood. Second and arguably most important, your existing bolt needs to have a “smooth throw” when locking and unlocking. I think we all have that one door in our house that we need to lift or push or force somehow to get the bolt to throw, but that isn’t going to cut it here. You may find yourself (like I did) making some adjustments to the door itself to make sure everything lines up perfectly. You don’t need to be a master carpenter to fix these sorts of things, just a little common sense and you should be able to make those adjustments yourself.This lock is compatible with Apple’s HomeKit as well as Ring and Alexa, but as with any other HomeKit compatible products, adding this was a very simple and familiar procedure. And because it’s compatible with HomeKit, adding automations and incorporating Siri Shortucts is a breeze. You can also use the Level Home app to manage the lock, allowing you to create guest passes for others to access unlock the lock (probably good for VRBO / AirBNB owners). The only complaint I have here is that if you pair the unit first with HomeKit and don’t add it to the Level Home app within 30 minutes, the lock has to be removed from HomeKit, reset, and added again.The unit is powered by a CR-2 battery which is stored in the bolt itself. I wonder about the relative strength of an otherwise hollow aluminum bolt, but I imagine this isn’t a significant problem. Presumably, as power runs out, HomeKit will provide ample warning. If not, two keys (which can be easily copied) are included with the lock.One of my favorite things about this lock is the branding: there is none, except for the end of the bolt. Otherwise, it looks like an every-day, generic deadbolt.Installation was easy, even considering I had some chisel work to do. Setup doesn’t **require** a special app (although it is an option), as it incorporates with HomeKit, Alexa and Ring. The only real catch here is the price, which is significant at $249. To outfit your home (suppose you have 2-3 exterior doors) would set you back a pretty penny, so maybe waiting for this one to go on sale would be the best strategy.

Wyze, among many others, make it glaringly obivous to the rest of the world that you have a smart lock, which could be a potential security risk to the right people I suppose?Installation is very easy, however the directions don't make it very clear that the product can be installed on both sides of a door. The pictures and official videos from Level (although at this time of writing, the only videos are for their similar products, the Bolt and the Lock Touch) made it seem to me that the Lock could only be installed on the left side of the door (left when looking at the door from the inside of you house). I thought the screw attaching the internal mechanism to the bolt had to be facing inwards to the house, as such I installed the product upside down to achieve this on my right-side-install front door. The result of this is a malfunction wherein the Level app reads the lock inappropriately - it will say it was locked when it was really unlocked and vice versa. I contacted support who was really helpful. They said that the product has a accelerometer which requires the correct orientation (facing up). Would be nice if this was written in the directions! They also informed me that the product can be installed on both sides of the door. After a proper reinstall, my Level Lock was functioning properly. I have already mentioned my complaints about the installation directions to Level support and they said they would work to improve.Another issue I had with the install is that it is hard to follow the directions with differentiating the parts. The directions has both words and pictures, which is better than IKEA with just pictures, but at least IKEA labels the pieces. Level really needs to do this...part a, part b, etc. The pictures are very hard to follow which is why I sought out videos from Level. Sigh.Another glaring issue with the install is the wall plate. The wall plate has fixed circle hole screws. This is fine for most normal manual door locks, but for a smart lock this is not the best design choice. Yes, the previous screw holes are standard, and will line up perfect for the new wall plate. They screw holes SHOULD be in a good enough location for the new wall plate, however that is not always the case...as I experienced. The problem is that for a mechanical lock like Level the wall plate needs to be in a position such that the dead bolt strikes the hole directly in the hole such that the gear mechanism can close the lock without exerting force (since it is not designed to do that). For a manual turn this is no problem, either for the Level Lock or any standard deadbolt because we humans don't mind pushing a door a little bit or putting some force on the lock to make it close. The gear mechanism is not designed to do this. The SOLUTION is to have a wall plate that has an oval to allow you to install it at any location. In my case, if I tighten the screws to the wall completely, the location of the wallplate is like 1 millimeter off and as a result the Level Lock will not close automatically because the deadbolt strikes the plate ever so slightly. My unfortunate solution is that I have to leave the wall plate loosely screwed to the wall such that it has some wiggle so that the deadbolt will strike the bezzled edge of the wall plate and move it into place as it closes. It isn't perfect, but it works. I have not tried any other smart locks to know if they put more force on the gear mechanism - so this could either be limited to Level with it having a weak gear mechanism or it could be a standard issue among all smart locks. I don't know. Just be aware of this.Another issue is the battery. Included is a CR2 Duracell battery. Level doesn't say anywhere how long this battery will last. I assume long enough since the power requirements are very low. But at some point I will have to replace it. I just hope the app alerts me to the battery health status when it gets low. There are some locks out that not only provide a rechargable battery, but include solar panels to keep that battery charged. Basically it means that at some point I'm going to have to shell out $4 to replace the battery. I think people who want the full smart lock experience want a set-it-and-forget it deal. Sad, but I know that Level is going for the "invisible" look here - doing everything to hide to potential burglars/hackers that you have a smart lock, no solar panels, no key pad, no fingerprint reader, no digital display, etc. I'm sure they could have figured out how to integrate a solar panel and still get the "invisible" look.Setup with your phone is incredibly easy. Just pop in the battery, wait for the chime, download the app, create an account and let the app do its thing. It'll find the door immediately and you just have to go through the very easy setup. All you have to do is hold your finger down on the box and it'll lock or unlock (as long as you are in range).The biggest issue for Level, which covers the "is this an all-in-one, do-everything-you-expect" comment, is that the device is bluetooth only. There is no Wi-Fi in the device. As such, out of the box you are limited to controlling the device within 30-35 feet of it. I tested it outside my house and once I got beyond 35 feet the connection was gone. You will not be able to use this lock as a remote-door-open-when-on-vacation tool. The only way to unlock this door is within 30-35 feet. The only way you can get guests in the door is having them download the Level app and giving them access. Yes, Level will work with Apple, Amazon or Google's home offerings to allow the remote access functionality, but that requires you purchase their hardware at an extra cost (upwards of $100 or more) and do extra setup. Bleh. I have no desire to have Apple, Amazon's or Google's listening devices in my home so I guess I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. As such, I'll be using it as bluetooth only, as a tool to avoid using a physical key every now and then which is not what I envisioned when getting a smart lock.With all that said, do I recommend the Level Lock? Things with the install are easily fixed by level, so I am not worried there, so I will ignore that in making a recommendation. But the lack of Wi-Fi and the necessity of getting a third party device to make this a TRUE smart lock with complete remote access while you are away from home makes it hard for me to fully recommend the Level Lock, sadly. Level Lock sells itself on being invisible, but I have seen a few other locks out there which are "invisible", in that they hide the fact that it is a smart lock. So it is really not a unique feature to be honest and not something you should strive to have. Go for something with Wi-Fi.

Yes, Level will work with Apple, Amazon or Google's home offerings to allow the remote access functionality, but that requires you purchase their hardware at an extra cost (upwards of $100 or more) and do extra setup. Bleh. I have no desire to have Apple, Amazon's or Google's listening devices in my home so I guess I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. As such, I'll be using it as bluetooth only, as a tool to avoid using a physical key every now and then which is not what I envisioned when getting a smart lock.With all that said, do I recommend the Level Lock? Things with the install are easily fixed by level, so I am not worried there, so I will ignore that in making a recommendation. But the lack of Wi-Fi and the necessity of getting a third party device to make this a TRUE smart lock with complete remote access while you are away from home makes it hard for me to fully recommend the Level Lock, sadly. Level Lock sells itself on being invisible, but I have seen a few other locks out there which are "invisible", in that they hide the fact that it is a smart lock. So it is really not a unique feature to be honest and not something you should strive to have. Go for something with Wi-Fi.

The notch along the side of the bolt that allows for adjusting from 23/8“ to 23/4” was the issue. I thought about shaving the bore on the door itself but then I figured taking a trip to the local hardware store might be a better option. To the best of my knowledge I have pretty standard size doors, with the exception of the hardened wood door. The trip to the hardware store cemented this idea. Upon returning I turned my attention to your standard compressed particle wood interior door.The strike plate had minor issues in fitting with this door but that much was expected. Installing to this door type was almost the same, however I had to shave a portion of the interior to allow the deadbolt to seat.The second, lesser issue, is that this deadbolt lock solely relies on Bluetooth. There’s a significant delay between unlocking from the app and the lock itself actually unlocking. It offer's pairing with either Homekit or Alexa and the sidewalk program. I could only pair with Homekit as I have no Alexa devices to test that functionality.Bottom line, If I were looking for a smart lock would I spend my own money on a Level lock, NO. It being limited to Bluetooth restricts some of its functionality to proximity based. However, if you’re deeply rooted in Homekit or the Alexa ecosystem you may unlock other functionality thorough those services. Just keep the biggest issue of lacking details in the documentation in mind. It might be a 1 off issue present in a certain batch which I happened to get or an issue that affects all models.Would I recommend this product to someone else? Yes and no. It really depends on what you already have for smart products so a simple answer isn't really possible.An additional note, upon installing the Level Home app I took a glance at the app’s reviews and on iOS it sits at about 3.4 stars. The repeat issue I noticed is that it quickly drains your phones battery. I am unaware if the Play Stores app suffers from the same issues.

Installation took me under 15 minutes including removing the original deadbolt I had installed and is very easy to do. The parts here go together with much more simplicity than other deadbolts I have used in the past, and it is quite seamless so long as your door and frame are lining up properly. I already had another Level Lock product, so I was signed into the app for that one. Adding another was incredibly easy, the long part being updating firmware on the lock. Coming from a Kwikset deadbolt which uses 4 large screws 2 on either side of the strike plate hole it was a problem going to a single screw on either side. In order to not break my door frame or simply cause weakness in it I was able to use my existing plate by grinding it out a little with a Dremel and grinding stone. Ultimately was only a problem because of my prior deadbolt but should not be a problem for everyone. Otherwise, everything else was a piece of cake and works wonderfully. Smart locks have always been big and bulky before now, Level makes it simple and elegant, and does so with a high-quality product. I am very pleased with it and if you are in the Apple ecosystem this is the perfect smart lock for you.

It isn’t complicated, and the app itself is very pared down and spare…in a good way. A simple Home Screen shows whether the door is locked (provided you are in range). Holding down the symbol at the bottom of the home page either locks or unlocks the bolt using a. Bluetooth signal. You can change the range that the Bluetooth operates, though the default works perfectly for us.And the fact that it uses Bluetooth is awesome, as you aren’t relying on wifi signals (which can and do fail) to get into your house on a late, cold night.). Using the Ring app you can control it remotely, I believe, but we are happy the way it functions as is.It is much quieter than our previous smart lock, and you have the option of changing the volume of the alert.The app also allows you to share access to your door temporarily, using hours and dates to limit this privilege. Too you can choose to have the lock open or close automatically after it’s been used (which is good if you have kids that habitually forget to lock the door when they are in a hurry in the morning).Visually is it is simple and discreet. I had problems finding smart locks that would work on our door as it is old, with heavy detail so there is little flat area to seat a large keypad lock. This is where the Level Lock Smart Lock really shines. It takes up very little real estate, while still allowing smart access so you don’t have to keep track of keys, especially when you have a large family.Obviously you will need your phone to use its Smarts” so we do keep a key hidden outside, especially if we are walking the neighborhood and we don’t want to take our phones along. Still that’s rare, as phones are generally never more than a pocket away.And the battery life is great so far. Battery life on my previous smart locks were absolutely atrocious, depleting AA’s in less than a month consistently. We got to where we never used it, always using the garage instead. Not now…the Level Lock Smart Lock just keeps going, and only uses one small battery concealed in the bolt itself.We are obviously very pleased and excited about this Level Lock, and hope to fit our other doors with them soon! Highly recommend!

This lock works with Alexa, Ring, and Apple homekit. Unfortunately it does not function with Google Assistant which was my biggest disappointment. Based on my experience I am only able to unlock and lock this device when in range and that’s because it works on bluetooth. it seems that when you pair it with Ring, Alexa or Apple homekit you’re able to use the remote features but I did not test that. I tried linking it to my Ring but it was having issues finding the lock device. I assume it was not able to because I installed it on my back door. Also for this to work with Ring you must have the Ring pro doorbell.The app is simple to use and to pair the lock. You are able to share access and see the time , date and when it was locked, unlocked and by whom. This lock works with a simple CR2 battery which is included. Battery goes inside the deadbolt itself and that made me wonder how that deadbolt can hold when it is hollow on the inside. According to the manufacturer it has been built and certified to meet security standards. How long the battery lasts depends on how much you use it. However the battery is very easy to replace, now it may not be easy to find because it is not a common battery size. Despite this being called smart it does have it’s limitations. Overall this smart lock does what it was intended for, it is well designed and it will fit pretty much any door. It is simple to use and easy to install. In the box you get the actual deadbolt, battery, 2 keys, manual and installation screws.

What they don't include is the answer to the question "what do you do if your door is not level and the existing lock and deadbolt are installed at odd angles to account for this? Level's documentation does not answer the question "what to do with the door frame if there are two previous holes in the door frame that won't properly align with your new deadbolt?" The correct answer to both of these questions is to buy a new door and install a new doorframe and properly cut a new set of holes, but it was a school night and I'm not a pro so after half an hour of debate we broke out the chisel and hammer and hacked our way into a working set of holes. Or so we thought.We assembled the deadbolt, paired it with Apple HomeKit and set about asking Siri to lock and unlock the door. My wife was watching TV during this time and was dismayed to learn that every time we locked or unlocked the bolt, the TV show she was watching was interrupted with an alert that the door had been unlocked. Or locked. Or in our case jammed. 27 notifications later we figured out why our hacked hole in the doorframe was not working and causing the lock to jam. She told us after the fact that by notice 15 she had physically removed her Apple Watch so it would stop alerting her. Mental note: teach the wife how to tweak Apple HomeKit notifications. With the deadbolt installed I thought that would be the end of the story. Nope.During the install I skipped pairing the lock directly to the Level smartphone app. The Level app pairing process uses Bluetooth to pair the lock to your smartphone. What is not documented in the box of materials is that if you skip paring the lock with the Level smartphone app to begin with and go straight to HomeKit, the bluetooth pairing option turns off after 1 hour and will not turn back on. The solution to this problem requires factory resetting the lock. Factory resetting the lock requires disassembling most of the lock to get to the hidden factory reset button. This really should be more clearly spelled out in the documentation included in the box.When the factory reset left the deadbolt unable to pair and now unable to connect to HomeKit, a trip to the level tech support website lead to a second article that revealed that the unit is supposed to emit sound, both when the battery is inserted and when the device is factory reset. This unit never emitted any noise. Level's RMA process was smooth and quick and cost nothing to return the unit and only a few days of delay waiting for the new one.When the new one arrived it chimed when I inserted the battery (a good sign) and paired successfully with the app where the lock immediately began downloading a firmware update. Shortly after I was able to re-add it to HomeKit and we're off and running again.The only challenge we have now is that Apple HomeKit is very very slow to respond on this device. 9 out of 10 times when we ask Siri to unlock the door, she responds "The lock is taking a while to respond" and we wait. And while the wait feels like an eternity, after about 30 seconds the door unlocks. So at least for this door, it's smarter than it was before, but not smart enough.

You must remember to tighten the connecting screw at that point. I then put the strike plate on my door jamb. After that I reassembled the lock and made sure the bolt was retracted then I simply threaded the tailpiece on the keyhole side through the center hole in the motor and bolted the 2 sides together. I then snapped the paddle in vertically to hide the security bolts just installed. My final step was to unscrew the cap on the end of the bolt and insert the battery with the flat end towards the cap. When I screwed it back in I then heard a musical chirp which told me all was well.I then proceeded to download the Level app on my phone, went to ADD A LOCK and registered my account. On the app you'll find the name you give the lock, an Auto-Lock and Auto-Unlock off or on toggle, Sound which goes from Off to High, a Boost Range so you can move further away from the lock with your phone if needed, a Calibrate feature, Battery Life (starts out showing Healthy), the Firmware version and then you can pick Apple HomeKit by scanning a provided QR code to activate, Amazon Sidewalk or None (using just Bluetooth). By the way there was an immediate firmware update for my lock which went in without a hitch. I decided for now to just use the Bluetooth feature so left it on None.Overall the installation was pretty straightforward and simple, even for me being a novice. The lock appears very high quality with a beautiful satin nickel finish. No unsightly bad spots like you might find on a cheaper lock and best of all it works like a charm! I only rarely use my front door, however I feel safer knowing this well built high security lock is on there.If you are in the market for a smart lock setup and the specs will fit your door I highly recommend its purchase. You won't be disappointed!

The Level app has an elegant UI and is easy to navigate. In the app, I can create guest passes by allowing select people who have the level app installed on their smartphone to have access to the lock at a specific date and time. This feature is convenient when I have a party so guests can unlock the door with my authorized pass. Works flawlessly and no issues so far.
