I was very excited to get this monitor and have enjoyed owning it. That being said there are items that you have no way of finding out how to do them using LG's website. I often buy open box from Best Buy and had never had a bad experience until now. This beauty is amazing. I didn’t realize how large the screen actually was until I hooked everything up and started working with spreadsheets. I’m very surprised with the performance of this monitor. From gaming, to spreadsheets, to internet searches, or simply streaming movies, I was blown away and amazed. The picture is nice and crisp. I’m very satisfied with the LG Monitor and the performance thus far. I would point out to you that there are no internal speakers but that is ok as for I’m using my soundbar. Also please note that I wished that the menu options were a little more user friendly, it takes a while to go through all the options and if you hit the wrong button you have to start all over.

After reviewing way too many YouTube videos, I settled on this monitor--I wanted maximal screen real estate. I was coming from a retina display on my old 17 PC, which was fabulous, if a smidgen small. So you can imagine adapting to a 38 took a while. HINT: You will want a window manager (I use Amethyst)--it's really hard to make efficient use of the screen real estate otherwise. It also took me about a week getting used to a non-retina display, but I no longer notice. I am glad in many ways since audio plug-ins on the PC were a mess on retina displays... now I'm no longer dealing with that issue. The 38 screen is a bit wider than is probably ... I'm using the 100mm VESA mount for use on my monitor arm--works no problems. I haven't put the built-in Thunderbolt 3 hub through its paces, mainly because I already had a T3 hub (into which this monitor is plugged). Nor do I use the monitor speakers. The display is plenty bright for my office (which is airy buy not overly sunny). Summary: Coding, note taking while browsing, and using software with a timeline is a dream on this thing (audio editing, video editing, sheet music).

You do have to make a lot of adjustments - DO NOT USE THE FACTORY COLOR SETTINGS. 144hz is only with display port. Don't get it if you dont have a decent graphics card(basically no onboard graphics) Keep in mind when using this on a laptop(windows) itll be janky, compared to my gaming PC, my work laptop(MSI creator 15) resolution is weird but that is because it is not display port. Please keep this in mind when you factor that in. I dont care much for resolution at work just want more space on 1 screen. Even though I marked it has a 4/5 thats as a customer... this thing is EXPENSIVEEE, I got it at a discount if the discount price was the actual product price, this monitor would be 5/5 and a dominator in ultrawide 1440p monitor market. Personally 5/5, this monitor has met all the expectations I've been looking for in the past couple months of my monitor hunt

So many dramas at hardware and software level with my Mac Book Pro, so this now sits in a corner and collects dust. ONScreen Control might be the worst software ever developed for a computer. It is notoriously unstable, user-unfriendly and has a mind of it's own. And the screw splitting software is only useful for two Windows computers...not a Mac and a PC. And the upstream USB-C port intermittently cuts out, rendering your power supply and peripherals useless. The joystick controls are located on the rear (yes the REAR of a 49 inch screen) and there's no remote. So every adjustment, including volume, requires you to get up out of ... One bloke says he's battled with support not calling him back, so LG's response is to provide the same phone numbers so he can waste more time calling again. That is the very same experience I've had. Avoid spending your hard earned dollars on this folks. LG don't deserve you.

So I'd only recommend this monitor if you are using a very, very sturdy desk underneath it. My wife types very daintily so it's not an issue for her. Lastly, most of the computers and tablets that I've plugged in to this monitor have been able to run the full display without any issue... But I did notice that the fan on most laptops run a lot more continuously due to the increased horsepower utilized for the graphics. This is not the same experience I have had with other dual monitor setups before so I don't know what the difference is, but there is something unique about this ultra wide display that requires more cooling from the internal fan. Long-term, I don't know how I feel about that for laptops running hot. I guarantee this is not a problem with most desktops though.

The LG UltraWide 49-inch monitor is big, really big! It provides all the space I need! I can have at least 4 full-size browser windows open at a time and many more smaller windows open if I choose. The unboxing and stand assembly was super easy. The stand attaches without tools and I had the monitor together and on my desk within minutes. I very quickly realized my existing desk setup was not going to be deep enough - which is not a bad thing! I will trade having this new monitor for an adjustment to my desktop any day! LG hit it out of the park when it comes to the stand! But I am most happy with the screen itself, of course. I have the resolution set as high as it will go - 5120 x 1440 - and it is super sharp and super clear. The on-screen settings are simple to navigate and well engineered. The monitor connected flawlessly with my laptop. One cool perk - the monitor charges my laptop so I don't have to use my laptop's charging cord. Saves on space and cord clutter. I am very happy with my LG UltraWide monitor. I would recommend it to anyone!

But this monitor is so wide I cannot clearly read text on the sides even by moving my head. I ended up just using the middle ~60% or so of the monitor (at which point I might as well get a 38-43 ultrawide monitor). At 49, you really need this monitor to be around 3-4' from your head, but most people don't have desks that deep. The ambient light sensor seemed like a good idea, and while it usually worked well, there's no option to set an offset. For example, it would have been nice to be able to have that auto-brightness functionality, but be able to boost or reduce the brightness in case you find LG doesn't know how bright you like your monitor given the ... LG should have the brightness adjust in small increments like a MacBook would, so that subtle changes in ambient brightness cause only subtle changes in the monitor's brightness. The stand, while a fancy rose-gold aluminum, is large and takes up a lot of depth as well as width on a desk. If you're taller than 5'6 or so, you'll probably wish the monitor would go higher on the stand and end up buying a VESA mount that allows the monitor to go higher, keeping the fancy stand in its box. The final issue I have with this monitor is that it's 60Hz. It's 2022. The monitor is (was) well over a grand. 60Hz is nonsense. I was able to overclock to 72Hz and even 75Hz, however at 75Hz LG displays this annoying out of range popup on the screen that doesn't go away. There is no way to get rid of it except to lower the resolution back to 60-72Hz. Another dumb move by LG. I'm glad to see the monitor is a third cheaper than when I bought it a few months ago, but it's still not a good choice. Go for something smaller and with a higher resolution and refresh rate.

With the UltraWide (curved) screen, I've been able to simplify my workspace and go more minimalist, doing away with my 2nd monitor. Basically, this wide screen permits me to run multiple programs (Word, Excel, PDF viewer, Zoom, etc.) without the need of a 2nd monitor. The design is amazing, with amazing color quality, an extra wide viewing angle and almost no frame/border. Setup was simple, with me running everything from my laptop through a docking station.
