Best picture ever! But AWFUL sound & flimsy case!

Yes, it's the best picture I have ever seen! But the "case" (the back plastic and frame) feels cheap and flexes far too easily. The backplane can easily be broken, effectively ruining the TV. I spent 40+ years as an audio engineer, so the sound quality matters a great deal to me. The audio this C1 model puts out in "AI Sound Pro" mode is thin and tinny. The loudness will suddenly jump up louder at many scene changes, and the lack of bass is shameful. Most of the other audio settings, such as Standard, Cinema, Voice and Music, yield significantly lower audio volume. A volume setting of 20 on AI Sound Pro compares to 40 to 50 on the other choices. That means if you change the audio from "Standard" to "AI Sound Pro," the volume instantly jumps painfully high. The "Clear Voice Pro" choice is also louder, but (by design) also lacking bass ("bottom end"). I have an LG Sound Bar connected through the digital optical port (as designed), but LG has changed the way it works when you choose "Optical Device Out + TV Speaker." On my previous TV, an LG 55LN5600, the volume control would change BOTH Optical and TV speaker volume at the same time, letting me set and maintain the balance between sound bar and TV speaker. This C1 series requires SEPARATE changing of the sound bar and TV speaker volume, which makes it impossible to quickly raise or lower the sound without having to rebalance the two devices' levels each time. I wish it was possible to disable the movable mouse pointer. While occasionally useful, it distracts from the viewing experience, and even at its slowest setting is very tough to aim accurately. When you turn on the set, the rows of too many "channels" get in the way of what I already know I want to watch (usually my cable box). Since I prefer to use a unified remote control, I have to wait for the channel options to time out (or scramble to find the LG TV remote, by which time the default bars go away. In this age of infinite customization options on most hi-tech expensive devices, LG has gone to a "one size fits all" concept, which I doubt most people will find user-friendly. Finally, the premium price of this set should include a USEFUL, COMPLETE User Manual, not some half-size, cheaply-printed and weakly translated thin pages requiring reading glasses and not explaining most of the features, options and settings. The "manual" for the remote control is printed so small that recognizing the icons on the buttons in the descriptions is virtually impossible. And as of a few weeks ago at least, typing in the model name on the LG website produces NO results (as in no manuals)! Also, there should be a single-button "turn on closed captions" on the remote, instead of the multiple menu navigation keypresses that are required. In short, the picture quality is absolutely amazing, but the poor sound quality, the cheapness of the case/frame that makes it easy to accidentally crack the backplane (meaning the display is ruined), the user-unfriendly remote and menu interfaces, and the lack of true documentation (that's readable without a magnifying glass) lowers this set to a "two stars out of five" rating.

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope this new screen will not have any further issues. This experience has made me lose confidence in purchasing any future LG televisions.

Great Picture

Coming from only owning plasma TVs, I never owned a LED TV before because every time I looked at one, the people on the screen looked like characters that came out of the movie "I Robot", pale and silver skin, nothing personal white folks. I bought this TV after doing research online, the reviews were promising. This TV has great picture and many options to set the picture exactly the way I want it. 4K picture is fantastic too. LG recommends that you adjust the aspect ratio if your movie has the black bars on top and bottom but the settings only adjust vertically so the movie ends up looking like an old Italian western film, I will keep digging on this to see if there is a better way. My small issue is with the TV interaction with my A/V receiver. I've always had an A/V receiver since I started using digital TVs so I don't have to use the TV speakers ( I firmly believe this reduces the TV wear and tear). The one I currently own had all the bells and whistles to match my new TV, including 4K and HDMI(ARC) support so that was great. Half the time, we turn the TV off in the evening and then in the morning, we turn it on and there is no sound so we have to play with the TV settings to get it back, sometimes I find that the sound output went back to the internal speakers, other times, the settings look fine but there is no sound. To get it back, I have to change the TV input to a streaming service then back to the xfinity box, really annoying. Overall I'm happy with this TV, 4K content on streaming services is definitely a plus.

Hands Down the Greatest Value

We actually chose the LG brand of OLED 4K (UHD) TV at Best Buy based upon our selection of the highest picture quality of all TVs in the store, and knowledge that OLED (Organic LED) in general was the only way to go since each pixel had its own light source. A Best Buy staffer - knowing that we were not going to buy that day - covered all the differences between the LG OLED 65 TV models (A, C and G), and assured us of compatibility with our present receiver, actually making a single line hookup drawing with connection cables specs, indicating which ports to be used. A Best Buy staffer - knowing that we were not going to buy that day - covered all the differences between the LG OLED 65 TV models (A, C and G), and assured us of compatibility with our present receiver, actually making a single line hookup drawing with connection cables specs, indicating which ports to be used. We quickly determined that the better processor in both the C and G models was worth the relatively small price jump from the A to the C model, but given that the C had sufficient screen brightness for daytime viewing and we almost exclusively view the screen in a darkened room, we could not rationalize the relatively large jump in price to the G model for the brighter screen. Although the difference between the C and G model screen brightness was only somewhat discernable in a brightly lighted showroom, if you view your TV in a room as bright as at BestBuy, I'd say go for the G model if the cost is not a barrier. Otherwise, save the bucks and get the C model, which otherwise has the same features as the G, except maybe maybe for a future technology ACST 3.0 Nexgen tuner, which I believe the G already has (more on that later). In our later research online, we were hard put to find any real complaints about any of the LG lineup, except for an occasional report of damage during transport or owner-induced during unpacking, etc. (read the LG unpacking instructions first, and no matter how strong you are, don't try to mount it without another pair of hands). We wanted to use our 5+1 speaker system so that's how we set it up, but at one point, we accidentally configured use of the LG TV speakers, and were startled at the unexpected high quality and realistic sound image when mounted on a wall. On the other hand, we don't like technology that gathers information for marketing purposes, or keeps records of viewing patterns (e.g. our thermostat has 3GB of memory!), However, the LG TV allows you to deselect ( or not select) those features. One criticism is that, if like us, you don't want your preferences collected for marketing purposes, you'll be hard put to figure out how to avoid seeing the occasional but persistent and annoying request to register for that. We don't have cable available, and don't want to avail ourselves of the ASTC 1.0 or future ASTC 3.0 technology (that the G modern already has) which purportedly allows the industry to collect marketing information, so that capability is just along for the ride on our TV. That having been said, we get a fantastic HD OTA Digital TV signal from a tower 56 miles away with a small, amplified yagi antenna that is barely line of sight to the tower. Rather than connect our LG TV to the internet, we've connected our 4K BluRay player online with an air modem (Verizon "hotspot") for data plan-limited Netflix or Hulu. Here's a tip: Replace all your HD DVDs with either BluRay 1080p HD discs which a 4K TV can enhance to nearly UHD ("4K") quality, or if available with a BluRay UHD ("4K") disc.

I really like my new LG 77".

I bought this LG 77 inch TV about a month ago and the enjoyment I get watching it is literally something I anticipate each morning. This is my second LG TV, the first of which is still working just fine (42", I bought it about 15 years ago). I have also owned an LG cell phone with which I was very pleased. LG seems to be a reputable company, which is why I chose to invest in this big screen TV. Set-up was simple and straightforward, although it did take a friend's help lifting it to its mounting brackets (I have it mounted on my wall above the fireplace mantel). Although the interface is somewhat more complex than the TV I watched previously, I mastered it in about a week or two and now could never go back. Although the interface is somewhat more complex than the TV I watched previously, I mastered it in about a week or two and now could never go back. The LG Live streaming broadcasts are numerous and of great variety and the guide makes it easy to navigate. The remote has buttons for easily accessing Netflix, Disney+, and Prime. I'm not sure why they didn't include Hulu. That would have been nice. The remote also offers a feature where the user can navigate using a cursor (similar to that on a computer) instead of the up and down and sideways ring. At first I wasn't sure this was an improvement, but as I try it out, I'm finding instances where I like the interface. The color has required no adjustment from the factory preset, although it did require a bit of adjustment to the contrast in order to see details in the dark areas of the screen. The fix was easy peasy. The picture is sharp and detailed with virtually no motion blur. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and would recommend LG televisions without hesitation.

We purchased the LG OLDED 55C1 PUB approximately 2 weeks ago. Our Sony Bravia 46" died and had to be replaced. After investigating features of current TV'S and recent reviews I decided on the LG. Because of the smaller bezels, we were able to go from a 46" to a 55" due to the limited space we have. I must say that the picture is just incredible. Our source is AT&T U-VERSE which broadcast in 1080P so we're not getting the full benefit of 4K. Regardless, the picture quality is just incredible. No falloff at various angles. The instructional videos were very helpful in properly unpacking and setting up the unit. My grandson and I had no difficulties with that. Certainly with acquiring a recent technology, there was and still is a learning curve. In spite of that, the picture right out of the box is excellent. It is easy to experiment with various options concerning video and audio adjustments and revert back to the factory settings if so desired. The Magic remote is fairly intuitive. There are 2 settings that are not easily accessible on that remote compared to my U-VERSE remote. With the U-VERSE remote, I can easily FF and rewind and also get the program info. With the Magic remote, I have to dig into the menu a little bit in order to find those features because those buttons are not on the remote. Overall, we are just tickled with the audio and video performance of this TV. The unit itself is very classy looking. We have been a long time fan of LG products and their quality. Any reviews that I've read have rated the LG C1 series as number 1.

At the time of this review I have 1373 hours on this panel in roughly 4 months of owning it. I have thoroughly enjoying using this panel as my daily driver for all my screen time. This is my first Oled in the home. I have stared at them for hours at store displays but the richness of the blacks never really hit me until I got one in my cave. For my setup of sitting rather close, direct viewing angle and in a dark room; This TV rocks. The colors and 120 refresh rate really stepped up how great my games and movies look. If you are looking at this for gaming there are some nice built in gaming features like Gsync and FreeSync. Picture wise I could go on for days as a gaming panel because it looks and does exactly what I was looking for. Let me get over a few things that I don't like. LG's operating system is not my favorite. It feels sluggish, cluttered and never very user friendly for navigation. The integration with Google Home is buggy and not as fluid as I hoped. The internal speaks do leave something to be desired for sure. Not a huge problem for me because I tend to wear noise cancelling earbuds or headphones almost all the time, even when home. If you intend to use this like a normal person, I highly suggest a external sound system. Even if the external sound is just a sound bar. I have the TV tabletop mounted but it is very close to the wall; So I have tried the wall mounted and tabletop mounted setting for the internal speakers. Neither really improve the sound when I am not using external sound.

After living with my 55 in C1 OLED for about two months now, I am absolutely glad that I made this purchase! For the money this TV has everything (and more) that I can ever need to run my series X at its full potential. I was a little disappointed that there's no next gen OTA tuner, but you can hardly tell that the tuner is not in 4k because the picture quality is spectacular. The built-in speakers are excellent sounding. I REALLY love that it has built in Bluetooth. The gaming features are the main reason I chose to go with the LG OLED. Gaming mode automatically activates when I press the button on my Xbox and it's easy to navigate the menus once you are familiar with them. Oh, and the remote for the TV is amazing with its mouse-like pointer and scroll wheel. Of course nothing is perfect, and I'm only a little disappointed in the picture quality in the darkest scenes from Ozark, there are occasionally blurred edges on both sides of the screen. That's my only negative criticism of my TV.. other than that, I'm completely satisfied every time I finish watching it for the day. I should also mention that this tv is also the thinnest screen I have ever seen and even when the screen is off The TV is a work of art..

TV I Always Wanted But Has Some Issues.
24 August 2022

I bought this TV 8 Months ago. I had been eyeing off an OLED for a few years now and our current tv was due to go. I upgraded from a 2007 Plasma tv which used four times as much power as my 65”. Pros. Picture is great for watching HD/4K content. The deep black that contrast with movie lit night sky’s make for great nighttime viewing. The OLED means that we can be anywhere in the room and still see a clear picture. During the day some light can affect the viewing of the glossy panel but I can live with this. One of the biggest reasons for buying an OLED was it’s reported benefit to your eyes. Unlike an LED with backlight the OLED does not have this and is reportedly better on your eyes. This does mean though that the peak brightness is not like that of an LED but upgrading from a plasma that had limited brightness, the tv is more than bright enough. Menus are fairly easy to navigate and the integration with other connected devices means I don’t need to constantly use more than one remote. Cons. I have had to use a wired Ethernet connection as when watching HD content on Disney and Netflix the quality would continually drop. Occasionally the TV will present a out of memory message and the screen will start glitching, turning on and off until it switched off completely to reboot. This is extremely frustrating as I purchased this TV partly for its advertised gaming features. You will be in the middle of a game and the tv will bring up this message and will bugger up whatever you are doing. Hopefully in your case you can pause the game. Not in my case. If it’s wasn’t for this issue the tv would get a 4-5 stars, but this is a really frustrating issue and demonstrates why having some of the best tech isn’t always worth it. It’s a shame because it is a great tv especially for the money. I’m sure general use of this tv most people won’t see some of these issues but it’s a shame they happen at all.
