There is an app that you can download to use with the speaker but it doesnt really add much more in my opinion however it is the 1st speaker I have personally owned that has an app to use with it. It had no trouble pairing with my phone every time and makes a beep to confirm the connection the connection was never lost when I would move my phone away from the speaker to the other side of my house which is brilliant. Also more than one device can be connected at a time great for when you want to swith djs smoothly! The battery life lasts quite long and thats even with the super boost on meaning you can play your music or audio book or whatever for a long enough time to really get into the zone before you have to think about charging. It also tells you when the battery is low which is also a nice feature so it won't just suddenly cut out on you. This little speaker does a great job it gets the thumbs up from me for usability and aesthetics. Seems sturdy and durable.

A portable speaker with surprisingly good sound

However, PL2 surprised me in this area. It actually produces a very decent sound! Of course it was not as good as any other "grown up" speakers, but it felt that the sound was covering most of the frequencies of songs I listen to.I tested the speaker using Bluetooth and wired connection - didn't see the difference. As far as I know, PL2 supports SBC and AAC codecs for Bluetooth, no apt-X or any other higher rate codecs, but I guess the quality of the sound is is limited not by codecs but by physical size of the speaker because it sounded the same via Bluetooth and an audio-cable. Having said this, I actually liked the sound of this speaker much better than a sound of my Dell computer soundbar that had 2 speakers and larger in size. The sharpness, clearness of the sound was much better. Also I was impressed by "Sound boost". The music was getting a "volume" when "Sound boost" was "on". I tried to listen to the music with it being "off", however, after a few second reverted to "on". Cannot see the reason not to have "Sound boost" as "on" by default and even without a button, but, I presume, LG wanted to brag how they managed to improve the sound usign firmware :)It supports multiple devices connected via Bluetooth which allows me have it connect to both my laptop and mobile phone at the same time. Of course, only one device can play music at the same time.In short, "pros": very decent sound for this size of speaker, small size suitable to be taken with you, good battery life, multiple devices connected via bluetooth, IPX5 water protection (can use it in a bathroom without speaker being damaged by a water vapour). "Cons": well, honestly, cannot fail this speaker in any area. Really happy with this speaker. One thing I was kind of considering is buying PL5 because it would have some extra features, but decided that small size was more important for me. If I want more volume, I could buy another PL2 and "pair" them together.Scenarios to use: listening to music on the go or being away from home, watching movies on a phone or my laptop with the speaker connected - much better sound than from built-in speakers.Best regards,Rustam.

Excellent portable speaker

I have been using this speaker for about 2 weeks now, and I have to say I can't imagine getting a better speaker for anywhere near the same price range.Straight from the box, it has such a sleek and simplistic aesthetic, and this is mirrored in the ease of use. Simply tap the on button and find it in your Bluetooth settings and it connects instantly, no hassle. Flicking between multiple devices is so simple, which is great for parties and barbecues.Despite being fairly compact, the sound quality is excellent and more powerful than I was expecting. Its max volume goes louder than similar speakers I have had in the past, although I haven't had to put it to max rather than testing it out.The charging ports for the device are hidden in a side panel, with a lid ... MoreI have been using this speaker for about 2 weeks now, and I have to say I can't imagine getting a better speaker for anywhere near the same price range.Straight from the box, it has such a sleek and simplistic aesthetic, and this is mirrored in the ease of use. Also within this panel features an auxiliary slot, which is great for devices that don't have Bluetooth, and a 'dual' button for pairing multiple speakers. I haven't tried either of these functions yet.As well as around the house and garden, one of the reasons I bought this speaker was for at my work. I work outside the majority of the time and the portability mixed with the waterproof rating mean this is the perfect device for me.I would recommend this device to anyone interested, and can't wait to keep using it throughout barbecue season and all seasons at my work.

First visual impressions of this little speaker it’s pretty good, very solidly made with a decent weight to it. USB C charging is a very welcome feature as I’ve lost so many devices to broken micro USB charging ports. In terms of setup, f you have ever paired a Bluetooth device in the past you will be up and running in seconds.I’ve got an iOS device so could not use the XBOOM App. However, to ensure I had the latest updates on the device, I had downloaded it on my Android device to update the hardware. When I first paired the speaker it was a pleasant enough sound, the bass was better than you would expect from such a small box and mids/highs are very clear however once I hit 75% of max volume the sound became distorted, more so when the sound boost was engaged. ... MoreFirst visual impressions of this little speaker it’s pretty good, very solidly made with a decent weight to it. The software update fixed this issue. I can now go to full volume without too much distress on the sound quality. Battery life is sucked out when on high volume will sound boost on using 50% in two and a half hours. Anything under 30% max volume was inaudible from my iPhone 8 Plus and 40% of max volume is very low unless you are sitting right next to it in silence. As it is water resistant, I’ve set it up as my morning radio for listening to and the fact that it’s got battery saving it just turns itself off and prolongs the battery life.As for sound quality, sadly size does matter. For what it is you cannot fault it but I can’t help feeling the bigger speakers in the range will give so much more “oomph” and weight to the music. If I was to describe the sound style I would have to say it is mid-range heavy then treble coming in behind and bass is a bit of an afterthought, although this little box is trying its hardest to make some! Without sound boost you have nothing more than a louder but clearer version of your phone speaker. The positive take of all this is you will be unlikely to upset anyone else in the park/beach/neighbours but still hear your media clearly where you are.In conclusion this is a nice little speaker, accept its sound limitations for the fantastic portability and enjoy it for what it is. I would be interested to see what two of them paired together would sound like (an option on this device) but suspect buying the larger versions in the range would give a better, one box solution if a bigger sound stage was your goal.

I do like the speaker, I love its size and form and the way it feels and the menu/UI noises. The sound it produces sounds great, but it just doesn't get loud enough for outdoor uses or if you have multiple people around. Again, it sound great but It really doesn't get that loud even if you use the boost to make it louder, and when you do use it, it distorts alot of the song/sound to compensate trying to be louder. Battery life is ok. I highly reccomend this device if you are just chilling by the pool by yourself or its great for in the bathroom if you like to listen to things while you shower or get ready for the day.

Powerful pocket speaker

The packaging was enticing and fit for purpose. The only thing missing was a wrist strap as the speaker has a hole which I assume is for a strap but no strap included. There was a USB charging cable but no plug which isn’t a massive issue as most homes have lots of plugs or sockets for USB chargers now. For such a small speaker this product delivers a quality sound and has a solid build. It has a loud enough sound for using outdoors (as tested by my 17 year old son) and sounds even louder in his bedroom. The clear sound delivers a deep and true pitch and the battery lasts easily for an evening get together. It easily lasts at full power for a good 5 hours. For the money this speaker is definitely value and can compete against any speaker on the market in this size and price bracket. In fact the quality for the price is only comparable if another speaker was reduced or on a special promotion. Overall this small speaker has a quality feel and is a hit in our household. I am confident it will be used all the time both at home and out and about.

The speaker has “Meridian” tech inside which would explain why this speaker packs a punch considering its tiny size. If you are expecting mind-blowing bass do not get this speaker as its too small but contemplating its size a delivers a well-rounded listening experience at volumes that a speaker of this size should not get too. Also in this small magic pill, LG has managed to squeeze in a mighty 10 hours of playtime battery, in practice, this appears to be accurate as had it on the side playing during a BBQ and it lasted the whole time. Another point which shouldn’t be a feature in 2020 is that it fast charges over USB-C, but cheaper speakers still come with mini B in 2020 which means they are a no-buy for me so happy LG is with the times. This lack of punchy bass to me is a compromise worth paying for the size of this speaker as you don’t lose out of the fidelity of the music, a pleasant “loud” listening experience in a tiny package isOverall very happy with this speaker which is fully loaded with tech and features into a diddy great sounding speaker well done LG!

Just picked this up from the London Bridge store. I have to say Robin was fantastic and went out of his way to make me feel welcome and attended to my needs. Thank you, Robin. Now, the speaker itself is was a bargain. I don't mind the colour at all for £19! The sound quality is surprisingly good and loud for such a small unit.I believe that it is a one driver system unlike it's bigger siblings that probably have two drivers. No fancy colour changing LED lights on this one, but if I'm honest I prefer it that way. Flashing LED's could make things appear to be 'bad taste'.You can download the LG XBOOM app (available on Google play and Apple App Store). The app allows you to adjust equaliser settings, give battery life information and also allows you to update speaker firmware if available. You can also use the app to create playlists or just use it without the app and with your favourite streaming service. Out of the box, I needee to update the firmware on the speaker, very easy to do through the app, just make sure the speaker is fully charged before attempting to do so because if there isn't enough battery life and the update fails mid-process, you will damage the unit beyond repair.Again I have to say, you get a lot for your money at £19. I'm very pleased with it.Thank you Team Richer.
