Thanks Line 6 for making a cool pedal, but there's simply way too much going on here for me to really play the thing. Delay sounds are a 10 out of 10, but the playability is about 5 out of 10. There are two knobs labeled "Tweak" and "Tweez," that control different parameters for each delay. It's a bit confounding, because you never know what parameter you're editing, as there are over 2 dozen delays and half as many reverbs. The manual is borderline unreadable. There are so many dang options and secret features, that to operate this thing effectively you must have to study an entire month. I wanted a simple pedal that could loop and also has some cool delay sounds. This does much more than I would've wanted, in fact, too much more. The option paralysis is real.It feels like the pedal is catered for non-musician types, hobbyists, who like to twist knobs and hear whacky, albeit beautiful, sounds out of their guitar, and have no real need for immediacy or straightforwardness. I, personally, could not see myself using this for a gig or a recording. Thank you, but I will stick to the simpler fare of pedals.

I bought this pedal thinking it would provide a versatile delay effect. It provides much more, so much more that it inhibits your ability to be creative with your instrument. You have to spend two hours just "tweaking" and "tweezing" the knobs to get your desired sound. I like to play guitar when I pick up my instrument, not fiddle with buttons the entire time. What the heck does tweak and tweez even mean? It's cheeky and cute, sure. But practical? No. It's another Line 6 product that was overthought to death. This pedal is a bedroom players dream and a professional musicians nightmare. I'm sure the original was great, but the new one is not. Try Boss or TC Electronic if you're looking for a straightforward delay.

Sound:The delay and reverb sounds are excellent. If you like the delay/reverbs in the Helix/HX series, then you should get along with these just fine. It has most if not all of the current delay types (as of mid 2024) in the big L6 boxes and most of the reverbs as well. It's suitable for ambient, rock, prog, P&W, or experimental music. Downside for some might be that you do not have the level of tweakability that you do in the menu based systems but that hasn't stopped me from getting great delay and reverb tones.Features:The Good: It has a nice looper but I don't really use it. It has just about every current Helix/HX delay and reverb live in this box and they all sound good. Without MIDI you still have access to 6 presets and can run external tap tempo AND an expression pedal at the same time. It is a Reverb/Delay combo and you can run both at the same time and use an expression pedal to bring reverb or delay in and out of a preset. The expression pedal set up is also dead simple as is saving presets. There is a ton of power in the box.The minor gripes: It's an incredibly powerful box, but accessing that power is not always straightforward. The DL4 is not unique in this since it's attribute of many powerful pedals that do not have a menu. You need a cheat sheet or an IQ of 190+ to remember where the 'hidden' reverbs live. They are not listed on the box. Also, when you bypass a preset the greed LED is only dimmed not extinguished. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they did that. I know the HX Effects and Stomp behave similar, but that's more to remind you what effect type the footswitch represents. The DL4 does not need that and it has caught me more than once. Lastly is the size. It's a huge box and takes up a lot of pedalboard real estate.Ease of Use:If you are using it as a straight up delay finding and tweaking sounds is very easy. If you are going to be using reverbs as well you will need the cheat sheet. Still easy just not as convenient.Quality:It's built like a tank.Value:At time of writing this is a $299 delay and reverb combo pedal that can be used without MIDI and has all the performance features of the 'big boys'. I think it's a great valueManufacturer Support:I've owned Line 6 products going back to the POD Bean. I've only reached out directly once or twice. They have a nice user support forum where there are tons of helpful people and I've never had an issue I could not resolve or get assistance with there. The Wow Factor:It's an inspiring pedal that goes beyond the vanilla delay types and would be at home on just about any pedalboard provided you have the space.Overall:I'm a big Line 6 fanboy, and the DL4 MkII has many of the same reverb and delay sounds out of the Helix/HX. It has a lot of features and it really should be marketed as a Reverb/Delay combo pedal instead of just a delay. It's not quite as simple to use as Line 6 would make you think, but it sounds wonderful and overall I'm very happy with it.

Bought this as a present for my son and he really liked the effects it creates. He intends to use it during his band's performances. It provides a great sound and is small enough to take with him on his gigs. The metal construction should provide for a durable lifespan. He's been looking to get one for years.
I've been eyeballing the Line 6 DL4 for years now, knowing how popular it is. With the release of the 25th anniversary version, AMS's insanely fast shipping and AMS's great financing option...I did not have to think twice about this purchase. I saw my chance and went for it! It delivers exactly what it says and more, after a minute or two of reviewing the manual, you will be able to use this pedal with ease. Make sure to keep the cheat sheet as it is essential to remembering all of the extra features it has to offer.
Previously owned a DL4 MKII and sold it. Regretted it immediately. I just picked up this beauty in limited edition silver and it matches my mixer. Ease of use, great delays and reverbs, excellent looper, and it looks cool af. What more could you want?
Whilst it isn't out-and-out the greatest delay pedal ever made, it more than makes up for it with its sheer fun factor. You can lose yourself in jamming with the delays for a long time, and then there's the looper which just adds to it. It's a very quiet pedal too which is good when you're stacking delays, which is something I like to do.It seems to be very sturdy too which always helps. And that's about it really - you can just play with it - it doesn't require a PHd to operate it and once you've memorized a lot of the options it is easy to whizz around. I can see why they've been so popular for so many years.
I bought this pedal as an avid helix user for my analog board, but within the first week I started noticing a weird bug with the tap tempo. My issue was that it would randomly change the tempo when switching between presets, no matter what global settings or external gear was used with it, but if you read any of the Line6 forums you'll find there are WAY more issues that pop up. Line6 has so far released only one update to combat bugs and it was within like a month of release because they forgot to include subdivisions in preset saves?! Other than that there has been almost no upkeep for the pedal and Line6 is just letting the bugs run rampant. It's infuriating because Line6 isn't even acknowledging the bugs either. Extremly frustrating!!!
The iconic DL4 is on its second iteration, and they have made some great improvements. Not only is it more compact and pedalboard friendly, they also doubled the amount of delay sounds and extended the looper time. The Line 6 DL4 was the first effects pedal I ever owned-at the time, I didn't know how important and iconic this pedal was to the guitar world. The DL4 is tough, powerful and ready to hit the stage. I first saw this pedal on stage when watching a performance from my favorite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You could clearly see the big green box at the end of John Frusciante's pedalboard. Once I had one, I understood what made it so special. Having three programmable stomps for different delay sounds, as well as a fourth stomp for tap tempo means this is arguably the only delay pedal you ever need for live performances. Plus, the onboard looper adds even more to your arsenal.
I have been having fun with this pedal for about two weeks. The DL4 Mk II combines the delays on the original DL4 and doubles that number with new effects on the Mk II. This pedal also has hidden reverb settings that can be used with delay effects. Add to that a looper than can record two minutes of backing tracks. It's easy to select the different delays as there is no screen to deal with, just look at the knobs. Once a delay is selected, it can be modified with the Tweek and Tweez controls. This pedal requires playing with the controls to get the effects you want. I found the presets to be very useful. All in all, a versatile pedal that is a lot of fun.
