Liquitex Basics Acrylic - 118ml - Ultramarine Blue

(100 reviews)

A single pigment rich semi-opaque blue with green undertones. Allegedly named because it was thought 'bluer than the sea', ultramarine was originally made from semi-precious lapis lazuli. The current pigment was created by French chemist Guimet in 1828 as a synthetic, but chemically-identical alternative. Basics is for all - from those new to painting, to experienced artists. Ideal if you’re a beginner. If you’re on a budget. Perfect for underpainting or sketching if you’re a serious artist. And for colour scoping and exploration if you’re a creative professional. This medium viscosity paint is made with lightfast, artist-quality pigments in an expanded choice of 72 colours. 118ml.

A lot of quality paint

Love liquitex and all their products. Definitely can tell the difference between this product and their heavy body acrylic. This basics style is more watery. Takes a couple of coats to fully get the desired saturation. But simple to add a thicker medium to get there. Pro is, there is a lot of paint in the tube!

I own many different products from Liquitex. I recently started painting again and needed to refresh so of my supplies! The Basics paint is a great paint with a matte finish when dried. It is very smooth, great pigment load, very easy to work with. If you are a beginner, this is a good place to start! Very reasonably priced! The soft body collection is my favorite, gives you a satin finish when dry. Creamier in consistency, "richer' in texture. you will see more brush strokes with Soft body. Heavy body is great for a more textured looking painting, impressionistic will be beautiful or if you like working with paint knives! you can have a more sculptural look in you painting (especially if you add their texture effects with them). I love this paint! I am not an artist, I am a hobbyist. I sew, paint and many other things a hobbyist does. Having tried many different types of paint, this paint does it all for me. Painting on many different types of material with the same paint is wonderful! You can use this paint on material, wood, rocks, bricks, walls, etc, etc. I especially like the fact that I almost never, have it bleed under my stencils!!! It is by far the best paint I have ever used.

Excellent purchase
30 May 2020

I use two brands of acrylic paints...Liquitex and Golden. I absolutely love these Liquitex paints. The tubes in this set were larger than in the last set I ordered, so I was thrilled with that. The colors are rich and varied, and the value of this set is excellent. This is a great buy not only for the price, but also for the quality of the product. Liquitex paints are not as thick as Golden, but that works well for most of the art I do. They are not runny, and they work well for my mixed media work. I have found that Liquitex paints don't dry up as easily as the Golden brand. I believe this will be a purchase that I will make again, although I'm sure that some colors will last much longer for me than others. It will allow me to replace more used colors as needed ... MoreI use two brands of acrylic paints...Liquitex and Golden. I absolutely love these Liquitex paints. As always, Blick is an excellent source for art supplies.

Great choice for all level artists.
8 February 2022

As a new painter, (acrylic & pour), I started by buying 3 boxed sets of 2oz. tubes & a LOT of inexpensive panels, (5x7), to explore possible latent talent as well as medium quality and value. No discounts or free samples so I did invest in the hope of enjoying, producing and excelling (over time). Liquitex has, thus far, become my one brand stop for acrylic colors, with good reason. Though not a "pro" by any stretch of the imagination, I found good paint coverage, mixing ability, color accuracy and yes, cleanup, all vastly more important than I'd previously thought. Pigment, weight, fastness, drying time are a few factors affecting anyone's end product. For me it is important for paint to be consistent in all areas, at a price point my budget tolerates well, ... MoreAs a new painter, (acrylic & pour), I started by buying 3 boxed sets of 2oz. tubes & a LOT of inexpensive panels, (5x7), to explore possible latent talent as well as medium quality and value. I checked all boxes with Liquitex and love that DickBlick.com has 8.5oz tubes at a super competitive price.

Great paint
22 December 2023

I am building my acrylic paint collection and wanted to add this beautiful color. The Liquitex Basics are a great paint for a beginner like me. They have just enough body and blend quite well. I do have some of the Liquitex heavy body paint and the Basics are not quite as nice as those are, but for the price point, it is an excellent paint.

Liquitex Basics Ultramarine Blue - I use alot of ultramarine blue, as I paint with a limited palette. And I love the Liquitex line of paints. You get alot of quality for the money. Even though the Basics is considered a student quality paint, it still has the same archival ratings as the same color in the professional versions. I U. Blue in the heavy body & the soft body as well. The Basics tend to be a little softer & sometimes a little more translucent than the soft body paints, so each has its best uses. #sweepstakes

Nice set to start with
16 July 2020

This is my first set of paints and I'm enjoying using them. I like the variety of colors that are included, with slightly different shades of certain colors, makes experimenting with them fun and helps me see the subtleties that can be found. For me, it's been a good starter pack because I've gotten used to the different colors and the tubes are small enough so that I know which ones I would want to get bigger tubes of in the future. But they are small, so when I use a lot of one color it doesn't last very long! At least with how much I paint. The texture and consistency also seems nice. They dry very quickly on the canvas and also on the palette, so that's something to keep an eye on. But I think that's for all acrylics. I would say a good starter set if you ... MoreThis is my first set of paints and I'm enjoying using them. Using the set of 72 for Watercolors
21 March 2023

I bought the big set of all of the colors in the Liquitex Basics line to use for watercolor painting. Since acrylics don't re-dissolve with multiple layers of wash being added like regular watercolors do, I thought I'd give them a try. I was pleased with my first little painting, and I love the vast range of colors I had to choose from to work with. Even though the tubes are fairly small, it really stretches out the amount when they're used as watercolors. I like them and would definitely buy them again.
