Gem of Acrylic

I’ve been using liquitex acrylic paints since the pandemic when my daughter bought me a set. I didn’t realize back then how superior these paints were until I tried other mediums. I love that it has a smooth and silky texture to it as well as deep and authentic colors it brings. Their heavy body paints are fantastic too as it covers the canvas thoroughly. And they don’t come with unpleasant smells like some acrylics do. Other acrylics I’ve tried just didn’t do the job. They were too watery and shallow texture. I’ve found my medium for life and I really savor these paints because they are a gem to me.

Great choice for all level artists.

As a new painter, (acrylic & pour), I started by buying 3 boxed sets of 2oz. tubes & a LOT of inexpensive panels, (5x7), to explore possible latent talent as well as medium quality and value. No discounts or free samples so I did invest in the hope of enjoying, producing and excelling (over time). Liquitex has, thus far, become my one brand stop for acrylic colors, with good reason. Though not a "pro" by any stretch of the imagination, I found good paint coverage, mixing ability, color accuracy and yes, cleanup, all vastly more important than I'd previously thought. The basics acrylics line is really nice for general painting; they’re much, much better pigmented than the cheap little bottles (the ones that usually sell for about a dollar and are really watery), but land in the more affordable side of a budget if you don’t have to use really heavy-bodied acrylic.I use these for costume distressing (by very lightly dry-brushing or dry-sponging the acrylic in strategic layers), as well as for decorative window painting, props, and on canvas/wood. It won’t go on completely opaque, so you’ll need at least 2-3 layers if that’s what you’re going for, but I use different colors for my layers and it gives it a nice depth.I’d love a one-handed squeeze-top nozzle, rather than a flip top (the lid often gets in the way, and I end up ... MoreThe basics acrylics line is really nice for general painting; they’re much, much better pigmented than the cheap little bottles (the ones that usually sell for about a dollar and are really watery), but land in the more affordable side of a budget if you don’t have to use really heavy-bodied acrylic.I use these for costume distressing (by very lightly dry-brushing or dry-sponging the acrylic in strategic layers), as well as for decorative window painting, props, and on canvas/wood. Great texture and value!
31 January 2023

This paint is a great quality for an affordable price. Its consistency is smooth and provides little resistance in achieving an even coverage without dilution. The dry time is medium, not so slow that it disrupts a work session and not so fast that it dries on the brush if you're working the finer details of a section of canvas. It is opaque enough to apply one or, at most, two layers, even over darker colors without their showing through. It mixes well with other brands of acrylic and a little goes a long way (for the white) to lighten a shade or add highlights. For its even coverage and opacity, you will be able to use less of it than the more transparent and thinner paints, so it is a great value. Liquitex Basics Ultramarine Blue - I use alot of ultramarine blue, as I paint with a limited palette. And I love the Liquitex line of paints. You get alot of quality for the money. Even though the Basics is considered a student quality paint, it still has the same archival ratings as the same color in the professional versions. I U. Blue in the heavy body & the soft body as well. The Basics tend to be a little softer & sometimes a little more translucent than the soft body paints, so each has its best uses. #sweepstakes

The image supplied; of my purchase, is showing a different color from the one that I purchased at my last visit to "Michaels". I, am hesitant to review the Liquitex-Basic Acrylics, since, depending upon the color and intended use and mixing; results do vary. But, I want to let you know, that these colors can be very nice indeed. Sometimes the opacity or density is measured slightly off and some of the available mediums, such as sandy finish, paste, or high gloss are not always available, either, in store, or online. Regarding my last purchase: I do like the buy one, get one with a coupon count off prices, { When that happens} And, for me these liquitex basics acrylics can often give very good tones and shades, unlike some other primary mixers. Regarding my last purchase: I do like the buy one, get one with a coupon count off prices, { When that happens} And, for me these liquitex basics acrylics can often give very good tones and shades, unlike some other primary mixers. The color that I actually purchased, which is not represented in the purchased list, is a "Neon type of pink", "Don't tell anyone", it is sort of a vintage color and I hope that it does not disappear. One of my favorite similar shades is Opera pink, and that color is not always available. There are a number of other pink shades, including extreme variations to the hot pink and neon color. Actually, I have found differences between , almost all of the brands of acrylic I have tried, that are offered in bright pink or hot pink or neon. Some are more matte similar to a lipstick pink. The one I prefer has what appears to be, almost a hot yellow or orange edge, to the brightest shade of neon pink? Maybe it is a sort of blued version? Since, I do prefer a specific shade in use, but can not always recognize it or tell it, when trying to shop in store. Actually the one offered by the Liquitex brand, looked more of a match to my ideal. When I purchase the neon color before, it was a little flat? Anyway, I do appreciate these , and they are equivalent to some of the Master's brands of acrylics.

Never needed anything else
8 October 2022

I can’t compare with other brands because it’s all I have ever used, but I have never felt a need to shop for something else. Mixing and blending colors, even glazing have all worked flawlessly. I thin with water mostly, but have used additives to increase time before drying and have received no issues that ever made me want to change brands. My mind thinks of painting not paint as it should! Yours will too with this paint.I always try to get the 4 oz ones with the flip top because the smaller ones have a twist off top that I’m usually trying to open somewhat sloppily with one hand.

Paint brand Basics
11 February 2023

I have been painting for many years now and this product is always my go to. It has always been my favorite because the paint comes out really true to color on what you see on the outside of the bottle. I find while the other brands may match well their finish is not the basic light gloss you would think most paints have (which I personally prefer). I’ve used some brands that when dried had a shimmer look or dried matt and was disappointing when the label wasn’t clear that it was going to do that. I like knowing what I’m getting especially with crafts when you don’t find out, many times, until you are done if what you used was what you wanted.

Rich color and great texture!
6 March 2023

I bought this paint with several other colors when I anticipated needing larger quantities of certain colors for a big project than what I already had in the Artist's Loft bundle of acrylics I bought. I was extremely impressed with the richness of color and the body of the paint. It is thick and provides even coverage, and it mixes well with other colors and brands. I have been very impressed with all of the Liqitex paints I have bought so far, and I find them to be an impeccable value, all the more when they are on a sale promotion. I recommend this paint for its rich color, even, full-bodied texture, and its great price.
