So, I received my litter robot 4 on November 24th, and it’s December 25th as I’m writing this. I was lucky enough to get it on a Black Friday sale, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have purchased it. I have three cats and had debated between getting one or two units for a while. Automatic litter boxes have come a long way since then. Still, for the price, I found the Litter-Robot 4 to be wanting.Right out of the box my litter robot has almost needed a sitter since at any moment it may decide to have an issue. The minute I turned it on and tried the first cycle it started spamming “pinch detected” notifications to my phone, and didn’t stop for I think the rest of that day and the next. Eventually, it sort of solved itself, but it was irritating having it immediately have a problem when it’s brand new.Next, I haven’t been able to find a way to fully stop it from cycling again without turning it off (and it still cycles on power up). This may seem like no big deal, but it’s been incredibly frustrating since every time I fill the litter robot to an adequate (not overfilling) level of litter, it dumps half of it into the waste bin. The scale doesn’t work on carpet at all, at least from my experience since it hasn’t taken a weight since I got it.Another small gripe is that the control panel light is extremely bright and can only be turned down, not off, without turning off the litter robot entirely. As I have it in my bedroom I have to stack blankets over it at night because it’s obnoxious to try to sleep facing.Overall, the level of maintenance this requires is much more than advertised, and on top of that, I’m paying more for litter because it keeps dumping half of it out every time I refill it. When you have a multi-cat household the tiny bit of litter it allows you to have without dumping it out is just not adequate. One of my cats started peeing on my bed and my dog’s bed because of this. Litter gets stuck to the top pretty regularly too.My final issue with it is that despite it being seemingly large, all of my cats, even my smallest have to hunch over when inside to be able to use it, and they more often than not end up stepping in their waste because it’s cramped. That in combination with dirty litter clumps getting stuck to the top (I use lightweight litter so this could be contributing, but I have the timer set to 15 minutes so it has time to absorb) they don’t seem to enjoy using it. It’s nice having it clean automatically, but the downsides are becoming pretty frequent and frustrating.

Firstly I should credit Cat Evolution for such a quick transaction and shipment, It was at my doorstep within 72 hours of placing the order! The packaging box is huge... not too heavy to handle, so be prepared to dispose of it when empty. The LR4 is the first automatic litter box I have owned... and it has changed my life! No longer do I get those litter box smells a few days after changing over the litter or having to scoop multiple times during the day. I have a 3 month old kitten who made the transition to the LR4 in 24 hours, and I removed her litter tray out of the room after 3 days. I had a few issues with the weight sensor, where I needed to reset it, also the app has a few bugs including the data display not displaying all the time, and resetting my preferences on the machines settings which included the panel lock feature, which caused an issue when my cat jumped on the hood and walked over all the buttons. The rotation of the globe when cycling is super quiet, I can't hear it when I leave the room (which is the laundry) and barely hear the motor, just the movement of the litter. I also use Worlds Best Cat litter (Green Bag) and can't smell a thing, even when the drawer is 50% full over 6 days. The fact that it keeps the waste sealed underneath the globe means this also helps keep my dog who is attracted to the kitty litter and its deposits out when I am not looking.So... is it worth the money? I think it is a luxury item for sure, but if you work away from home and unable to scoop up traditional litter boxes throughout the day and you want to avoid the smell and mess at all costs, then yes you will love the RL4 and so will your cat!

I’ve been involved with cat rescue for the past ten years with regards to feeding ferals, socializing cats at the shelter where I volunteer, and occasionally fostering, but I’ve never been a cat-daddy….until now. I must admit that I loathe scooping litter boxes, though I do it every time my two boys do their business. I never allow things to accumulate, they always have a clean litter box…my fellow cat people call me the Poop-Police. I pretended to myself I was trying to figure out the best place to put it with regards to aesthetics and proximity to an electrical outlet, fully knowing my cats would chew any wire they have in their sights. But I was also a bit intimidated by how high tech this is, more stuff for this old mook to learn! To my surprise, the instructions were clear & concise, and very easy to follow. I downloaded the app on my phone which puts a wealth of information at my fingertips, and the getting started video was very helpful. I set it up unplugged beside the old litter box so they can get familiar with it, then stopped scooping the old box, which was all the motivation they needed to try the new one. The younger guy pretty much used it immediately, and loves jumping in and out of it when he doesn’t need to go. The other guy took a few days to use it being he’s not nearly as bold as the other. But after witnessing his little Bruh use it successfully without getting swallowed up, he decided it was safe. I’m just glad he didn’t protest his old litter box overflowing by doing his business on the floor. My only complaint which is totally my fault is I should’ve gone with the lighter color, black shows absolutely every speck of dust so I gotta’ really stay on top of this thing to keep it looking clean & presentable. But overall, this is a beautiful thing, and I’m very pleased with my purchase.

As head of facilities at the Lion’s Den, I’ve known for years this is exactly the level of service the kitties have been looking for. But to be honest, it has also been life changing for me. Box maintenance can be especially challenging for me living with a physical disability, especially with 2 fastidious bosses who are deeply offended by less than ideal conditions. And it’s not just the scooping, it’s a drawer you can empty without needing to disinfect your whole self after. My only regret is not purchasing sooner.Lion, our chief supervisor, spent the entire first day purposely pretending to use the box just to get it to cycle so he could inspect its work. He especially appreciates the manual cycle feature, as he sometimes finds the safety wait times after use unacceptable. He wonders if you’d consider adding nod recognition so he could signal the box himself. He hopes you’ll consider his feedback and promises to continue giving the signal so he’s an early adopter whenever you release the update.Our sweet old lady Rozzy wanted to thank you for everything you do. She came from the streets, and comfort and luxury never go unappreciated with her. She is a long haired beauty obsessed with looking perfect who has she has lost her sight recently, and knowing the box she’s walking into is always fresh and clean has made her feel like she’s really reached full VIP luxury in her sunset years.I am deeply grateful for both the exceptionally sensitive and accurate safety shut off features, as well as all of the features you packed into the app so I can respond swiftly & appropriately to any urgent facilities needs without leaving my location.Thanks for changing all of our lives for the better!
Overall the litterrobot is a great addition and makes my life easier. However to fully use it's potential a lot of personal tinkering is needed. It comes with a USB outlet integrated and Whisker does sell a camera holder - but there is no out of the box functionality for it, you have to set it up yourself. My biggest worry with an automatic litter box was potentially missing digestive issues of my cats. When I am home I will usually notice the smell and when it gets really bad you will definetly see remains in the litter robot itself. But not always.So I use a self printed holder as the whisker camera holder is not available in the EU (sad) to hold a camera above the litter robot. One of my cats has frequent bowel issues so I can check the footage to check on it, ... MoreOverall the litterrobot is a great addition and makes my life easier. But the whisker integration into home assistant just allows very basic actions as it's not officially supported.In times of AI I do hope I will not need to do these things myself much longer as I would much prefer to get a notification by AI image analysis telling me something is up with my cat's digestion. Rather than watch camera footage every day of my pets pooping or checking if the smart scale mixed up my two cats. Alternatively just let me do it myself by providing an open API that makes setting it up all on my end a lot more hassle free.

The drawer will probably have to be replaced at some point since the waste drawer is connected to the step and probably more smell will start to leak out as it continues to sag. I have also found that I need to take out the waste drawer and shake it to even out the waste since the way it falls to one side of the bin triggers the "waste bin full" sensor a little early. The power cord is very short and surprisingly thin for such a big machine. Having a longer and more sturdy cord would be great for more versatility with placement, since we had to use an extension cord to be able to plug ours into the nearest power socket. We also had to duct tape the cord to the floor to cover it in order to keep from tripping over it and to prevent our mischievous cats from chewing on it. We're still in the trial period and deciding if we will keep the box, so potential buyers should just be aware that the machine is not totally low maintenance. You'll just need to decide which features and benefits are more important to you, i.e. no scooping but requires high-tracking litter, or less odor but has different cleaning requirements that are sometimes tedious.

But they both got used to the litter robot very quickly. We don't use the app, because, really it's an unnecessary bunch of extra information and 'internet intrusion'. Honestly we don't need to be notified every time a cat pees.The liner is tough like a pool liner, but the thing does need to be cleaned/hosed down maybe once a month or so because inevitably stuff does stick to it on occasion, just as it does with a conventional litter box. But the process is no more challenging to do than with a conventional box. And yes, conventional clumping litter works just fine. Very little sand gets out of the box - the small step has a ribbed rubber surface which catches most sand when the kitty exits, and that can be easily vacuumed up. Some litter dust does collect on the outside/top as the thing spins around, but again it's easy to clean off either with a soft cloth and cleaner or a vacuum. So while I really thought this was way over the top, I have to say that with 2 cats it really is a practical and much appreciated item.
I've had my Litter Robot 4 now for about 1 - 2 weeks and have already noticed a huge difference! Although the product and pricing cost a pretty penny, I think it's well worth it! I have 2 cats, who both got familiar and comfortable with the litter robot within just 1 hour time, max, it was SO easy switching over from their other box to this one. Also the phone app works so well to provide all the stats and usage info that I could have imagined. And it offers a shopping feature to buy refills of items at the push of a button, so convenient! Also, I want to be honest...I have one cat who is a bit fussy about his catbox, over the past year he didn't like to share his litter box with his brother cat, and he didn't like if the box wasn't cleaned 100% of the time, in fact he started a bad habit of going to the bathroom outside of the catbox (my old litter box), 2 or 3 times a week he would go to the bathroom right beside it on the floor. I knew something had to be done and to make him feel comfortable using litter box...which is one primary reason why I wanted to switch to the Litter Robot. I wanted to see if the cleanliness and his overall comfort of using a litter box would change. Let me tell you, it definitely worked! Since switching to the litter robot machine he has not gone to the bathroom outside the box/machine, and I've monitored his behaviors and noticed how much he enjoys the litter robot, and also how he acts when covering up his messes after going to the bathroom...his attitude is different than before. He even approaches the box, or leaves from the box, so much calmer and less anxious than he used to be. Wow! I can't tell you how much this litter robot has changed our lives, it's such a time-saver for cleaning, and takes up just as much space as a large catbox pan. This thing works like magic. Trust me...you will notice a difference. This has to be the best purchase I've ever made!

After finally getting one and having it for about a month, I honestly regret not getting it sooner.Safety: This thing is packed full of sensors. If your cat enters during a cleaning cycle, or even stands too close to it, it immediately shuts off. However, the cost immediately justifies itself. Setup was a breeze, acclimation was easy, and the technology on it is insane. I love that you can pair it to the app to keep track of daily usage, cat weight, and to get notifications every time it’s been used. The app also lets you know of the waste levels, litter levels, and offers manual controls. If you’re in the market for an automatic litter box, get this one.I can’t say enough positive things about this litter box. I haven’t had a single issue with it and I would absolutely buy it again. The generous trial period and warranty also speak to how much this company stands behind their product.
After 3 years, we upgraded to the Litter Robot 4 from the Litter Robot 3 Connect. Now that we have had the 4 ~2 months I can say it was 100% worth the upgrade. It is a sleeker design which is nicer for our smaller apartment. The opening is bigger allowing our large cats (15 lbs and 20 lbs) more room to move around and access. I really enjoy the SmartScale feature especially when we had cat sitters. The biggest upgrade for me was CLEANING. It's so much easier to remove residue, and the upgrade from that knob in the back to the flat surface was a full lifestyle upgrade. I also appreciate that I can remove the litter catcher when deep cleaning. My cats couldn't be bothered with the stairs, so I'd wait to see if it feels like they need them. My cats regularly pee in the back, so we didn't end up needing the fence (I thought it was necessary after reading others' reviews) and it made the entrance less roomy so they prefer it off. I wasn't sure about the litter catcher mat, but the litter robot one looks and feels much higher quality than other comparable mats. It turns out one of our cats is obsessed with it and likes to lounge on it, so I was very happy we added that to the purchase. We do keep the robot in the bathroom (against the recommendations) but we have good ventilation and it's easier to clean regularly. We didn't have any issues with the 3 or 4 there, although perhaps the litter might stick to the walls a bit more due to increased humidity, but the 7-minute cycle works just fine for us. 10/10 would purchase again.
