This model of the classic turtle sandbox was different! It is not a solid base but rather, 4 identical pieces that fit together well. The lid also came in 4 sections and the head attaches to the base. It came in a smaller box which is great for shipping and I’m sure it makes warehouse storage and store shelving easier too. Putting it together was fairly easy, if not a little tricky to get right the first time. But I easily got it put together in about 20-25 minutes. We bought two bags of sand and some sand toys for my 3 year old and he played all day in it!

What a rip off! They should’ve left the old “pool” style alone!! This thing has shrunk by more than 1/2 and now comes in sections that you have to piece together and they don’t hold right. It’s so small that my 2 y.o. granddaughter who’s small in stature has to sit outside of it to play! The large one (back in the day) was a GREAT one and was like $20, this piece of crap in almost $80 and not even half the size or quality! Plus, you spend another $50-$60 in buying the sand for it. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!! Just buy a kiddie pool and use a tarp to keep stray cats of it!

This version of the iconic turtle sand box is okay, but definitely not like it used to be. I didn’t realize when ordering it that it wasn’t one solid piece - the lid and the base are both in pieces that must be put together. I’m not one to shy away from assembling things. But the pieces are a little flimsy compared to the solid ones and the middle of the bottom pieces don’t stay together very well (there’s little grooves and notches). It’s not a terrible product at all, and it’s serving its purpose just fine as a dirt/mud play area. It just isn’t as sturdy and thick as the solid set from my childhood.

Times have truly changed and you can see the results from this product and the product from 20 years ago. The sandbox now has to be out together unlike the sandbox 20 years ago. The size, one word can only describe how I’m feeling about the new one, WOW!! What a waste of money on the consumer, number one!! What a waste of money on the manufacturer for even taking the money and time to put one of these on the market! It’s a 1/3 of the size of what the use to be!! Why change what’s been a successful name all these years? To save money so the executives can have more money in their pockets?? I wouldn’t waste my time on another Tykes product again. It’s a waste of lol!
I saw the 25% one star reviews, but after raising three kids and now on to grandkids, overall I came to trust the Little Tykes brand. So I decided to purchase this anyway. Big mistake!!! I am happy for all those with good experiences but I had to return this piece of junk. The plastic sandbox base pieces simply would align and fit together. After fighting with it way longer than I should have, I had to make a trip back to the store to return it. Even if it had aligned well, it is ridiculous assembly design. I purchased another one (more $$) which snapped together so easy without tools.
I bought this for my granddaughter. I am so disappointed. Little Tykes has definitely went downhill with quality. I thought the sandbox I was getting was the strong plastic turtle sandbox with a cover the way they used to be made. It came in eight pieces of the thinnest plastic ever. Everything was off-center and hard to put together as the pieces kept popping apart. This is one of the cheapest made toys I have bought in quite some time. They definitely don’t make them like they used to. I will be searching around to find a used old turtle sandbox. I will not even bother to put this in my yard it will be returned..

They ruined it so that they could sell more to people that don't have truck I'm guessing even though we fit the other turtle in the back of our crossoverish vehicle (model y) All the pieces are copies of the other pieces, so the branding and animal picture on each piece is the same. It's such cheap plastic the pieces don't go together properly. Little Tikes isn't doing anyone a favor with this price either. This thing should be 20 dollars tops. I immediately returned this item but think of what you'd have to do if you have to move it out of the way of a storm while filled with sand or if you want to mow under it. We absolutely love our Little Tikes Turtle Sandbox! It's become the main source of entertainment during backyard adventures for the kiddos. this turtle is the good old fashioned strong built, one piece top. I'm very happy to have purchased. My Westie loves to ride in the turtle shell. He cannot do so in the newest turtle sandbox design.I am disappointed in walmart deceiving me just to get me to order the product quickly. I had it in my cart. I needed sandbox in 3 days and originally couldn't not do so, after hesitation, I came back to the cart and price dropped and date changed to one I needed. so i purchased. once purchased, in route they changed the date to be longer than the original date. I called to complain and walmart gave me a bogus gift card of $10. disappointed with Wal-Marts service.
