Whereas you can get a pizza pan of other metal materials for about $4-$7 and still get an alright pizza pan. Durability is what you're really getting here. This sucker, as with all cast iron cookware, is destined to last several generations with just a bit of basic care. Plus LODGE I believe is the oldest American made cast iron cookware that is still making new products to this day and are super easy to find in most stores even. If you have a bit to spend on other good cookware, then the price here while still somewhat high shouldn't be a deal breaker considering what you get in return. A definite fine example of getting what you pay for. I've slowly but surely invested in LODGE's cast iron cookware and I've yet to be disappointed. Not only great American made quality, but cast iron cookware has grown in popularity over the recent years and many other competing companies offering similar cast iron cookware have a substantially higher price tag. I don't know or care how LODGE keeps their prices considerably and consistently lower than most of their competition and without sacrificing any quality, I'm just glad they do and I've taken notice of it. Try them, start out with a basic 10.5 inch or 12 inch cast iron skillet and see for yourself. Soon you'll switch to cast iron cookware too.

I’ve been making pizzas at home in the kitchen oven for decades but I was never happy with the crust. No matter how long I heated the ceramic pizza stones, they never got the crispy, slightly charred crust that is the hallmark of good NY style pizza. To get even a bit of good browning on the bottom I’d have to bake it so long the toppings overcooked. All that changed when I got this pan. Now my pizzas have the perfect crispy, chewy, slightly charred crusts I wanted and the toppings are done to perfection. It also heats back up again more quickly for multiple pizzas..but if you want to make several pizzas quickly, I’d put one of my pizza stones UNDER the Lodge pan before heating them both up. It will take longer before it’s hot enough for pizza, but the pan will ... MoreI’ve been making pizzas at home in the kitchen oven for decades but I was never happy with the crust. This by far created my most delicious pizza crust. I made 2 pizzas using the new lodge cast iron pizza pan and the other on a pizza stone. Blind taste test, Everyone eating noticed how much better the the one cooked on the cast iron pan was. It was a win for sure! I bought two and gifted my granddaughter. Made in the USA and Walmart was the least expensive as I searched for the lowest price.

This pizza pan is fantastic! I have used it almost everyday since I got it. Pizzas turn out great. The pizza crusts are crispy and delicious. I have used a stone for years and this cast iron pizza pan is far superior. I absolutely love the built in handles. When I take it out of the oven, I place it on a round trivet. There is a round groove on the bottom of the pizza that my round trivet sits in that secures the pan for when you are cutting the pizzas or other dish you prepared.I prepare meals ahead of time and freeze them. My lasagna, chicken pot pies, and meatloafs cook perfectly on this pan. I place my dinner, still in the container, on this pan and the food turns out perfectly.Clean up is simple, just hand wash and then immediately wipe dry. When you are ready to use the pan, rub a little cooking oil on the entire surface and bake as usual.Caution: this pan is heavy! Also, don’t put this pan on top of a glass top oven without something underneath it as you risk breaking or scratching your glass oven top. Use a trivet to protect your countertop from the heat of the pizza pan when removed from the oven.
Clearly its a pizza stone intended to bake better pizza on but there are so many uses for this pan it'll be used in my house for more than pizza night. I'm still working on my pizza dough recipe but this cast iron pan is better than the ceramic stone pans because this can be used for so much more! This can be used on the grill or in the oven, has nice handles built-in for easy carrying and removal from the grill if you want. The bottom has circular ribs built in for more even heat spreading without the thing weighing 50 pounds! It comes pre seasoned and is easy to care for, the label stuck to the pan was easy to remove and gives lots of ideas, care tips, and uses. I plan on using it to make pizza on the grill in the summer so it doesn't heat up the house, keeping brie and rolls warm, as well as serving nice little brunches on the patio without fearing if the pan is dropped it'll shatter like a ceramic.I think it looks great as a charcuterie board for cheeses, meats, and little apps at a dinner party, it can also be used as a heat trivet to help prevent damage to your nice dining room table. Because its cast iron, it does require a little more care with what is put on it, cleaning, and storage, but once you get the hang of iron cookware, the heat retention makes it worth it considering I can use this for a lifetime!Big points for Lodge still making this pan in the USA as well! They're even so proud to tell you its made in Tennessee! I'm so happy they're proud of our country and making it right here!
We baked our first pizza on this pan and the results were quite good. There was good browning on the bottom crust without scorching. The crust around the edges was perfect. Our oven's max temp. is 450°, so that's what I used. I preheated the oven and pan for 3/4 hour. It's important that the cast iron is up to the oven's temperature setting. You can conveniently put up to a 14.5" pizza on this without anything hanging over the edges, so long as the pizza is really round. I easily slid the raw pizza onto the Lodge pan with my wooden pizza peel, which had corn meal sprinkled all over it. To remove the pizza from the oven I used a dinner fork to raise the crust a tad and then slid the pizza peel under the pizza. The pizza did not stick to the pre-seasoned cast iron. I slid the pizza onto a large nylon cutting board and sliced it up. Easy peasy!I've read that having what's called a heat sink in an oven will absorb the heat up to the oven's setting, and then act to stabilize and better equalize the temperature throughout the entire oven. It would seem that this hefty pizza pan from Lodge would do just that if left in the oven all the time. I like that idea because, honestly, it is quite heavy and large to deal with. I say, leave it be!Though I don't expect to use it that way myself, it would seem to be perfectly suited to cooking pizza and other foods on your outdoor grill! You'd just need to ensure you give it enough time to heat up to cooking temperature. If you love homemade pizza like my family, I highly recommend this pan for you.
First off, at 15”, this thing is the perfect size for homemade pizza. Most of my pizzas come in around 10”-12”, but the extra space is nice for when I’m entertaining a larger group. Though it doesn’t sound like it, a 15” pie is more than twice as much food as a 10” crust. This is amply-sized for small or large pizzas. It also distributes heat evenly, as my IR-thermometer attests. On the grill, it really captures a lot of heat across the whole cooking surface. It’s a little too big for my coil-burner stove, but if you have a nice range, this would be great for that too. It fits nicely in the oven of course, and combined with a stainless steel bowl from Ikea, it makes a great sourdough cooker (seriously, it’s almost a perfect fit). It fits nicely in the oven of course, and combined with a stainless steel bowl from Ikea, it makes a great sourdough cooker (seriously, it’s almost a perfect fit). The grill is the most important for me though, and it’s just the right size for mine (Weber Spirit E-310). It’s perfect for the depth of the grill, and leaves just enough space for good circulation on either side.Heat transfer is great, as you’d expect from cast iron. In fact, I learned after my first crust that I needed to adjust my time down a touch. After a quick adjustment, everything’s cooking quickly and evenly.I have only two minor quibbles so far. First, I’m having trouble getting it clean. The first cook left some material burnt on, and I’ve been unable to remove it with a lot of scrubbing, soap, Bar Keeper’s Friend, and a stainless steel chain mail cast iron cleaner. I’ll try oven cleaner next, though it doesn’t have a ton of impact to leave it on. I’d also appreciate if the handles were considerably wider. I can get a good grip now, but there’s plenty of room for them to have made oven mitt-sized handles. A wider grip seems safer to me, so that’s a design update I’d like to see.Overall though, this is really a well-made and versatile product. It will last a couple lifetimes with proper care, and it’s cheaper than stainless steel. Highly recommended.
I love pizza and am going to call this pan AWESOME! Handles on both sides big enough for actually holding make for easy transferring in and out of the oven. It's heavy as cast iron is but not unbearable to lift and transfer. The pan indicates it's already seasoned and instructions indicated no need to do a cure (oil, heat at 300-400 for 30 min, then shut off heat and leave to cool naturally for hours). I confess, a cast iron fan I seasoned it in a cure like this anyway but believe it would be fine without. Surface is slightly textured so don't think food would tend to stick like flat cast iron. Test drove it with a thin crust freezer pizza (see my picture). I put put the pizza on the pan (cool pan) and put in. Took a little longer to cook, 5-8 min more. Maybe should have preheated pan but instructions didn't really give advice here. Next time I'll preheat the pan like 20 min. It calls for light soap and water cleaning. I did VERY light soap and wiped it dry as I always do with cast iron. After dry, I put it on a burner on low for about 2 min and lightly rubbed oil on it for finish as I always do with cast iron but instructions didn't call for this. All in all, easy handling, heating and clean up.
Used only once so far, but excellent results! Heat up slowly with your coals. Use parchment paper under each crust. Results were excellent! We did 24 crusts one evening with excellent results. I've had several pizza stones crack over the years. This one seems like it will be better long term if not shocked by putting over already hot coals.
I have been looking forward to making a pizza since I got this pan, and it did not disappoint! I used the Tasty app recipe to make my pizza and this pan made the crust nice and crispy! This is the first time I have ever attempted a homemade pizza outside of culinary class, and I was very happy with how this pan performed! It also cleaned up nice afterwards and nothing really stuck to it thanks to the oil I spread on after preheating the pan.I also like how this pan has handles on the edges, unlike a pizza stone, so you are able to grab it out of the oven and put it in without burning yourself. The cast iron really helped it bake consistently and turn out so nice and crispy. You get to choose what all you want on it and get to have some fun with kids or friends/guests. I look forward to using this pan for many many years and get to pass it down to my children for them to use since cast iron is so durable and long lasting! I love this pan!!I was too excited to eat the pizza I forgot to take a picture before cutting and serving, whoops!
