I have the original version of the 400 AW, but long realized that it had some downsides (what bag doesn't?). I saw the version III in the B&H store in November and realized that the new version solved several of the complaints that I had with the original. Namely, that the zipper on one side did not go to the bottom so that it was not easy to get items in an out of the bag in the lower left side. This problem has been totally fixed in the III version. I like the bag at the top of the inside area to store small items. I like the little bags that hold memory cards. I like the stronger construction of the bag; it seems firmer than the original version.Although I have only had the bag for two weeks, I am pleased with the new design and look forward to taking it to ... Should be a good companion!

I am a big fan of Lowepro gear. The original AW400 served me well for over a decade before the zippers gave out and decided to upgrade to this. First the PROS, it looks nice on the outside and is a bit more compact, great if you're travelling as turning around with the original meant you had to be mindful not to hit someone. But that's about it, every other aspect seems to be a downgrade and I will list these out after using v1 for 10 years.1. The outward facing bag only has 1 zipper pull, seriously they couldnt afford 2? The old v1 also concealed the zipper with a clever design that helps prevent rain from going in. Now it's just an ordinary zipper. Slack.2. The upward handles been slimmed down from v1. Probably to reduce the size, but the joints where its sewn ... MoreI am a big fan of Lowepro gear. Now it's just an ordinary zipper. Slack.2. The upward handles been slimmed down from v1. Probably to reduce the size, but the joints where its sewn into the bag is almost 50% shorter, meaning it will be less resilient over time.3. The rain cover. OMG how did Lowepro screw this up? On the V1 the rain cover was integrated into the bottom of the bag and neatly tucked away. Now they instead have it include in a pouch inside the bag which takes up extra space. Massive downgrade.4. The back cover used to recess into the bag again which helps reduce liquid from going in. Again a dumbed down choice. Also like another reviewer mentioned the bottom no longer has hinges SUPPORT so if you try to open the bag while you have the waist strap around you. Things will fall out.5. The front compartment is smaller now. In the v1 I could fit a jacket. Plus it had smaller pouches for pens and passport and other details, all missing in the current version.6. The internal compartment foam dividers are much thinner then before. My newer RLX 450 has pads the same thickness as the V1 and is great for padding my gear. The AWIII for some reason being newer is thinner.Lots of things to complain about the various downgrades as you'd expect things to improve over time. But absolutely you can tell they didnt design this with the care of their older models.

This backpack is very solid, it can hold all of my equipment. Granted I'm a novice so let that give you what you will. I do wish the shell pocket was more expandable to give more room to store equipment there but it's ok. It's very comfortable to wear. I do suggest that you consider buying this backpack.

Had initially bought one via Amazon for a lower price. Zipper fell apart after first use. Returned it and bought this one over CameraNU.nl. I have to say this one is 100% better value and CameraNU.nl's price for this one matched what was available on Amazon etc...
Like most photographers, I have dozens of bags and just can't find the right one for ME! This is the closest I've found for my situation. I carry an A7iv with battery grip, 70-200, 24-70, and a nifty-fifty as well as accessories and this bag fits everything comfortably.
I really like the improvements to the backpack. I have the original flipside and still use it but the new zippers are stronger and smoother than the first one. When it is completely unzipped it lays open making it easier to access my camera. I also like the new handle that was added to the back of the backpack.
The pack itself is nicely constructed. I love that it has a side access for your camera as well as the rear access for your gear. However, it is NOT made for females. There is no ability to adjust the pack so that is will sit at your hips (I am 5? 6?). Instead, the hip belt sits at my waist and there is no ability to distribute the weight of the pack from the shoulders to the hips. After the first mile, I definitely felt the problem in my shoulders and neck.My intention was to purchase a pack that I could comfortably carry my camera and a couple of lenses while I day hike (generally 5-10 miles or so). If that is your intention, this is not your pack. If you want a pack to carry your equipment from the house to the car or to another short distance then this is a ... While I knew the backpack's dimensions, I was surprised to see it in person and just how roomy it turned out to be. The camera and 24-105mm lens, wireless mic system, ENG mic, camera charger, extra battery, card reader and cover fit easily. And, I still have plenty of room left to add in a telephoto lens if I'd like.
This bag was bought to carry a canon DSLR with a battery grip and 70-200mm lens, sadly this combination is such a tight fit that it's pretty much unusable for this. You can only just do the zips up as the bag doesn't have enough depth. It also marks very easily so I feel unable to return it. As I was advised on the phone that this bag was suitable I'm very disappointed. Looks like it will be sat in the camera kit graveyard now. Expensive mistake!
I don't get the skepticism from some reviewers here. This is one hell of a camera bag, fitting all sorts of combinations of camera gear. I didn't strictly need the depth of the 400 (advertised to accommodate a camera with a portrait grip) but it definitely comes in handy, allowing me to lay my medium-sized DSLR camera in the bag however I want. Importantly there's more than enough space for my Nikkor AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6 with the hood on in reverse and the tripod mount attached. I also appreciate the side access compartment, though I'd have liked a higher quality zipper here. (The main zippers are great.) The modular internal dividers are robust but not too thick; I could have used a couple extras, though, and maybe a couple more placement options. I could have used ... I could have used a couple smaller/shallower pockets, internal or external. The bag feels good on your back, like an OK-quality hiking bag, and the strap adjustment system is pretty good (easy and solid-feeling). The rear bumpers and the extra handle (vertical between the straps) are appreciated too. Finally, I have to say, the bag looks really good. Nice clean lines. For $200, this bag is a good buy; for $120 it's a steal.
