I'm going to be teaching a pencil class at my local senior center. This set is a good example of some of the "tools" they will be needing. When possible I have always used Staedtler drawing supply. They sharpen well, go on to the drawing surface well, and are clearly labeled. I will be recommending these to my senior students.

These pencils are great drawing tools, and my son periodically wants a new full set. But as with all tools, there are favorites and most-used. It's great that Michael's has single pencils for purchase as well as sets to allow extras of what is needed.

I am A violin maker. I use various supplies from Michael’s to make fine violins. I particularly like their oil paints, brushes, jars, and pencils among many other items. Michaels is my go to place for art materials.
Wonderful pencils, ideal for doing broad-stroke or chisel-stroke drawings & value sketches. The graphite is soft enough to create very nice darks and, with light pressure, light tones. The graphite is VERY break resistant and I think it is thicker than most pencils. I love these pencils!
I'm taking an atelier style drawing class, and these pencils were required. They lay down beautifully and create a lovely light value scale. That being said, you can get fairly dark tones out of them with repeated layers of graphite. I'll definitely be buying more Staedtler Lumograph pencils.
I know this product first hand. I've seen them being manufactured and know the extreme measures these pencils go through in the manufacturing process. It is easy to understand why the quality of these exceptional pencils is so much appreciated. After all, the Staedtler name in pencil manufacturing has been around since the 1600's. From the finest ingredients to the utmost care in producing the exact hardness time after time results in a product that performs consistently well. I also use these pencils exclusively.
Good Quality 4B pencils . Wood and lead hold up perfectly after going through electric pencil sharpener. Lead lasts quite a while before needing to be sharpened again . I use these to do crossword and other pencil puzzles because they give nice black marks, but , are soft enough to erase easily :-)
I haven't done much sketching for quite a while. I started painting and found myself having to sketch certain things to obtain proper proportion and depth. I was using a standard #2 pencil and found it to be inadequate. My favorite drawing pencils. Have bought various hodgepodge mix of other brands but I kept finding myself reaching again and again for the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils. So I finally bought the complete set for a drawing class. Awesome. Consistent gradations and very even application. Love the bonus 4 pencils of Mars Lumograph Black with luscious darks you don't get with regular graphite pencils. Highly recommended. Good value and good range set for various applications. Comes in a convenient tin for storage.
