Macallan 30 Year Old Double Cask 2021 Release Single Malt Whisky
Tasting Notes Thirty years two oaks one harmonious whisky. Here’s an exceptional release for those who like to discover something new with the comfort of the familiar. The Macallan 30 Year Old Double Cask 2021 is the first ultra-prestige expression in this ever-popular range and the oldest and as such will be highly sought-after for its collectability. This perfectly balanced Scotch was created by Kirsteen Campbell – who considers oak the “single greatest contributor” to Macallan’s style – and it was matured for three decades in a combination of Sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks the former coming from Ohio Missouri and Kentucky while the latter were sourced from northern Spain and the French Pyrenees. Tucked neatly into a luxurious solid oak presentation box this very special Macallan pours the colour of a golden acorn and has a nose of fresh honeycomb toffee apple and fig tart with vanilla ice cream. On the palate Christmas spices and Madagascan vanilla mingle with dried fruit and sweet oak. Mind-blowingly complex it’s an instant classic. Don’t miss out on its very first outing. “Macallan is the daddy as far as legendary whiskies go.” So says whisky expert Ian Buxton. Boasting a rich history dating back to 1824 it is one of Scotland’s most renowned and respected whisky producers with a fiercely competitive cult following. Located in the illustrious Speyside region Macallan has built up an iconic reputation for its Single Malt releases with demand and prices seeming to constantly be on the rise. Their huge global demand was perfectly illustrated by a 30-year-old cask breaking auction records when it sold for $375 000 (US) in Hong Kong. Deservedly so it remains the aficionado’s choice when it comes to Scotch.

I've tried many of the more obscure, recently trendy, and often unpronounceable brands. And the older Macallans. And the other distinctive greats, like Lagavulin. But I return again and again to my Macallan 12 (which we now have to specify as the "sherry cask"). An absolute, irrefutable classic. Will be drinking it til I kick.

The Macallan 12, Sherry Cask, is the standard bearer of mid-priced whisky. It has managed to maintain the best price point to quality ratio out there. Nobody would be disappointed to be offered a dram.Whilst it lacks the rounded finish of the 18yo, it would be churlish to hold this against a whisky which is quarter of the price. All in all, the Macallan 12yo Sherry Cask is pretty much the inflection point of the graph of the law of diminishing returns for whiskies - yes, if you are a connoisseur, you will enjoy the older expressions more than this, but for anyone else, this is your bottle.

A fruit forward nose of plums, cherry, sticky dates and raisins accented by a hint of nutmeg and wood notes was followed by a nice warming palate of red berries and spices. The finish is easily the best part and is extremely satisfying with malt, burnt caramel, cherry pie and spices flowing through in a medium length, but extremely flavourful finish.Would buy this again without thinking twice.
Macallan is great. You’re always gonna have haters out there complaining about how they approach the scotch game but they produce world class stuff. The triple cask has a load of flavors coming at you. Different spices are prevalent along with raisins, fruity aspects and a dominate woody character of oak. The sherry isn’t very clear on this dram. On the palate it’s very smooth and the finish it’s very long, spicy and powerful. I was at a local scotch bar and was looking for the 18 sherry oak but they only had this at the time. The 12 sherry oak is totally my style so I’m sure the 18 sherry would blow me away. Nonetheless, this is fantastic stuff but I’d only buy the 18 sherry oak based on my taste preferences. 94/100.
I had bought this for investment - one of the dark Macallan boxes was damaged, which will reduce it's investability. Is there anything you'd to? The damage is a small crease on the lid. I'll rate a 3 star based on this, but without this you'd make a great 4.5 star!
Unless this is a different kind of 12 yr double cask Macallan, the price is way off. I just bought the same Whiskey at Costco for $63. Normally, I buy the majority of my spirits at Total Wine, but the price I see for the 12 yr Macallan will make me think twice before I buy there. Other than that, the Macallan 12yr is an outstanding choice for an everyday wiskey.
Prompt delivery and arrived safely.Great website with lots of choices.Thank you and have recommended your shop to many others and very confident to do so.Tals
This is the best scotch I have had to date and I have been drinking scotch for many years. This scotch was so good that after the first sip I did not want to add water. The wood flavor clearly came through complimented the overall taste. Unfortunately this is out of my usual price range. Looks like I will have to settle for the 15 year old Macallan... the horror (kidding).
