Doesn't stretch. Super warm and comfortable on cold days. Gets prickly when the temperature rises, as you might expect with wool.

I love the tops but this is now the 4th one I have bought and they all everyone tear at the front within 6 months of wear. A couple of small holes appear in the wool and then they get bigger. It is a real flaw in the product and I am very unhappy to pay for these garments and I do not get value. I have photos also.

I really rate these tops - over Mons and Icebreaker like tops. Great cut - long torso cover and perfect arm length / articulation. Have used, extensively, running, ski touring, back country climbs / skiing etc. Also just kicking around town as base layer either summer or winter. All merino will hole with extensive use but these tops are durable.

Not what i wanted. II was trying to replace a merino MACPAC top,I had bought several year ago. It had interesting detail and panels of webbed fabric inset and thumb holes. I tried to buy in-store and wore it in to show the staff but they couldn’t assist and didn’t recognise the branded MACPAC product. So very much second choice and second best.
Great product - i.e. the merino thermal. TERRIBLE plastic packaging. What possible justification is there for not using a cardboard box for a fully biodegradeable product? Even more disappointing to see the plastic packaging greenwashed as 'use on your tramping trip then recycle'. Clean up your act, Macpac!
Love the merino, wear them for work, mountain biking and casual. Great for Christchurch weather but have worn over in Brisbane.
As above, great to wear, great thermal properties. Really enjoy this material. However, I have noticed that it can be a little sensitive... on 2 of my tops the threads pulled out leaving the tops a little damaged. Despite that, yes, i would still recommend as the merino tops are amazing!
Macpac wool base layers are soft and do not itch. Regarding fit is I find that macpac tops generally have arms which are snug and a body which runs a little large. For a baselayer this is not ideal for me, as I feel my arms and shoulders need a medium, but my torso is a small. Still a comfortable option, and a good price for wool.
Like others, I've been turned into a convert after years of wearing uber-pricy Icebreaker thermals (in frankly bloody awful colours), and these MacPac threads are next level in terms of comfort, fit and long-term wearability. And they don't break the petty cash tin (got left over change for biskits...). This top, in "you can't miss me!" orange flame, is all I have under a medium-weight fleece jumper; also super comfy under a lighter, longer MacPac 3/4 zip jumper (forgotten name, but I have 3...). Everything, everything fits just-so. Very pleased and going to stock up on more of these (incl. a Casswell).
Wore the top on an 11km overnight hike last weekend, just over 500m descent going in. Temperature ranged from 6 degrees to 12 degrees. Light wind required a lightweight fleece pullover on the way in, just wore the top on the way out. During times of direct sun and no wind I did get hot, but the smallest breeze made life very pleasant. So impressed I bought the matching boxers which arrived today!
