Purchased 2 years ago and used a total of about 15 nights in that time. Poles snapped on 3 of the uses (I'm an experienced camper) thus required servicing 3 different times with poles / tent being sent to Christchurch for repair. I had to cut my holiday short on one of the breaks. Fortunately it was under warranty... back then. Now, not so sure. Gentleman in the Macpac store made a passing comment that I was not the first person to have this issue. If macpac have sorted this design / production flaw since then with a newer model, then its a good buy, otherwise my recommendation find another tent where this won't happen. I'll still take this tent on holiday and use it as my primary tent and use it till it dies (I can't resell it with this flaw) but I'll now take a ... I bought this tent just before Christmas holiday , we used it 2 weeks and at the first rain ( normal rain) the floor took the water... I m really disappointed for a stuff at this price. Also the mosquito net is torn close to the zip. And we are very cautious. And if this model have an issue of conception its not normal for a new stuff like that to take water by the floor mainly at the middle sewing at the center of the floor but also at different place.

Love this tent. We are a family of four (1 & 4yr old). Wanted enough room, but not too much as some national parks have small campsites (We bought the solstice shelter for sitting in for flexibility with set up rather than one large tent). Easily fits four camping mats and our gear. Lots of pockets. I popped a headlamp in one mesh pocket to use as a lantern. Clothesline was useful. The side doors only have mesh at the top so for ventilation I found myself opening the door fully. Which was fine where we were as bugs were at a minimum. But might not have been as practical inland. This tent is also very easy to get in and out of (compared to our last) holding a baby. I like the two doors. Vestibule could fit an esky or you could store your chairs over night. Easy set ... It's nice (we ended up buying a 2nd, identical tent, so kids can sleep in one, and we in the other). However, a couple of things really bug me: it does NOT include awning poles and Macpac doesn't even sell awning poles for it (so we had to buy additional poles from Mitre10, cut them to right length and get some washers to put the awning up). When doors are open but flyscreen is closed, there is no "pocket" to tidy them into, so they end up hanging onto the floor and getting in the way. And twice now the main poles have split in the ends when we've been putting it up or taking it down. Macpac replaced both under warranty, which I appreciate, but I'm distrustful of the poles now. We bought this tent when looking for a roomier tent for car camping and we haven’t been disappointed. The design of always having the fly and inner connectable and attaching poles to the outside makes setup quick and avoids wetting the inside when pitching in the rain. We have had no issues with wind or rain and it seems to hold up well against the elements.The tent spoils us for space and easily fits two double mattresses with space to spare. The headroom was also a significant draw for this tent allowing us to fully stand in the centre. While it isn’t a blackout tent, it is certainly not as bright as other tents we have owned/used. Awning is not the biggest on the market but has met our needs.Would recommend for those wanting a bit more space.
Multiple tent owners we brought this tent primarily because we wanted something quick and easy to put up, that was slightly taller for aging bodies, could take stretchers and provided ample ventilation so it was cool. Solstice 4 met all these requirements. Plenty of room for 2 stretchers and gear inside, ample height and our favorite feature is the dual rear doors which enable you to selectively open up for airflow. Doors could open from the top or bottom which meant we could leave the tops open for air but the tent was weka proofed! It also coped well with heavy rain. Best of all it pitched in 10 mins easily! The colour coded poles/tabs made everything simple. We are very happy with our purchase. We would have purchased poles for the veranda if they were available ... The first set up was a bit tricky as we are used to the traditional style of inner then fly. Tensioning the fly was bit confusing and it also took awhile to hang the inner. Overall it took us over an hour to erect that first time. But the second time round once the inner was attached and we knew what we were doing we set it up in 15min. Pack down was similar time and this was at a leisurely pace.It is such a solid tent. The design means that when it rains water runs straight off and is channelled away from the sides. We left the side doors on the fly open at night for lovely flow through breeze and because of the slight peak above each no dew came in. We have only used it twice but I am totally impressed and looking forward to many more camping adventures.

Customer service was great, they honoured the warranty no problem and after a discussion about QC they replaced the tent on the spot. Stitching and seam taping are cleaner etc.Been happy with it, solid performer. Would purchase again
This tent cannot be used in sunlight for extended periods - "UV damage — do not leave tent pitched in direct sunlight for longer than necessary" - as per "https://www.macpac.co.nz/macpac-solstice-eight-person-family-camping-tent/119637.html". 3 weeks is too long - was offered a new fly (thanks MacPac!). If you need a tent for multiple (hopefully) sunny summers; this might not be the one. Suggest name could be amended to Winter Solstice.
We were away during some terrible weather - both rain and wind. This tent was superb. Didn’t leak at all and didn’t even move in some very strong winds. I can’t recommend it enough. The side doors are absolute genius for airflow and access depending on wind direction.
