Was using a different system previously which was cumbersome to add and take off the flash units with some of the pop on pieces popping off. The whole Magmod system makes the use of flash modifiers fast and easy. The magnets are strong keeping the modifiers in place.

Was using a different system previously which was cumbersome to add and take off the flash units with some of the pop on pieces popping off. The whole Magmod system makes the use of flash modifiers fast and easy. The magnets are strong keeping the modifiers in place.
Oozes quality. Used it during an Obstacle Course Race recently, where I needed to highlight certain individuals in poor lighting conditions. Used the grid in conjunction with the gel holder housing a 1/4 Straw gel. Perfect results. Great asset to any photographer's toolkit. Heartily recommend it.
I love the newly redesigned MagMod 2. At a recent photography conference I had the pleasure of meeting the MagMod team. It was great to see how enthusiastic they are about their product, and were excited to talk about the changes made to the upgraded version. I recently used the MagGrid 2 as a hair light for a headshot marathon and it worked very well. What I like most about the MagMod is the design - it fits perfectly and snugly around my flash. After using ill-fitting Gary Fong accessories for years, it is refreshing to see this innovative design.
At first, I was very excited to receive this product. However, the weight of this modifier is not ideal for travel. The concept magnets as far as speed of putting the modifiers are great but they add a lot of weight. Also, I don't like to have to worry if I stored my hard drive and laptop away enough from the magnets in my camera bag. Lastly, for the price of one you could've easily bought several other modifiers that'll do the same thing or even more.In the end, I returned this item.
There's no denying that this is an awesome product when used smartly (no product is going to be magic), but it is expensive and heavy. However, there is nothing like it that is also of good quality. I wish they had better combo kits too to offset the price so I can expand my collection smartly.My main gripe is that the products are heavy enough that you do notice the added weight when using them on camera. Of course, off camera, the weight doesn't matter.
This system works well but it's rather heavy so your flash head will tend to move. Also, the magnets tend to come out.
This is a great idea. Works great and provides the gel colors I use. It is a tad bulky on the flash, but that a trade off for it. One minor flaw in design though, I can't use my white bounce card with the gel on. I can't bounce the gel light like I usually do. For this reason, I not buying for my other flashes as I need that on occasion. I'm sure there is a reason why they didn't let that function, I would love to know the reason why the mfg would think that the white card would not be necessary to use anymore with their device.
The magmod gels and magnetic flash holders have taken my photographic imagery to a new level. It keeps my photography at the edge of technology, not to mention it looks more professional then any other types of gels I've ever used. Its ease of use is compromised. I've been extremely impressed of how this little kit has changed my creative alternatives, to the extent that I have purchased two, one for each off camera flash and the all the gels available.
