Makita 1300W 165mm Plunge Cut Circular Saw SP6000J

Im really annoyed , today i used the guide rail for the first time and its faulty , the plunge saw even on the track set right has shaved the edges of the metal.guide .... its clearly not for the plunge saw that its been sold with .... makita has always made quality precision tools but to especiall mess up with a tool accessory specific to precision cutting is ridiculous . Can you please send out the correct one , or a non faulty one specific for this particular plunge saw , this has caused my work at a customers house to go wrong so im very annoyed by the poor product quality and sale pairing of these two obviously unsuitable items . In fact even the plunge saw needs calibrating further as the depth setting is untrue to what it claims . Bought the Makita plunge saw package with two 1400mm Makita guide rails and connector bars, with non-genuine clamps and free aftermarket guide rail bag. Starting with the saw, it was accurate straight out of the box and cuts effortlessly, even through oak work tops. I was surprised how well it performs as it’s compact and light to use. The features are everything needed for a plunge saw with all settings easy to access. Usual Makita quality feel to the product, so everything’s a good fit and no slopping about when setting depths, angles etc. The guide rails fit together well and the saw is a nice tight fit but still glides perfectly. Accurate and repeatable cutting

I purchased this saw after a decided to make fitted wardrobes for my daughter's bedroom. I just could not justify the £1000's of pounds the so-called wardrobe fitters were quoting.My carpentry skills are basic, and without this saw, I would not have been able to produce the accurate and repeatable cuts that were required. For example, I need to make a cut at 37 degrees to fit against a sloping loft ceiling. I set the saw angle and the depth and was amazed how accurate and clean the cut was.Over the course of a long weekend, I built 7 fitted wardrobes and they look amazing. I've had this cutting system for about a year now and it is a definite upgrade from the lesser expensive track saw system I had before. It operates smoothly and has enough power to cut through sheet stock and thicker panels as well. I used it the other day to cut through a 1 7/8 " thick panel and it did so pretty easily although there were times that it seemed to bog down a little. I was making long 8 ft. cuts and I only got 3 or 4 cuts with fully charged 5Ah batteries, so I'm thinking the saw could use a little more voltage, especially on the thicker cuts. Generally speaking though I've had no problem making easy work of cutting 3/4 sheet stock. Edge cuts don't work well if your trying to take off anything less than the full thickness of the blade due to the very thin blades that come with these type saws. And to get square cuts you have to square the the blade to the track while the saw is sitting on the track. If you try and square the blade to the saw base your not likely to get square cuts.I like that on the Makita you can lock the saw to the track which is especially needed when making 45 degree cuts and that it has fixed settings for 22 and 45 degree cuts, something the Dewalt saw doesn't have. The most frustrating issues with these type track saws happens when trying to join two 50" tracks together. Getting them to line up to execute a smooth, straight cut can be difficult if not impossible, due to the inconsistency in the measurements from track to track. And if your reading the reviews this is the case with most all brands on the market. Your better off getting a longer continuous guide, if they even make one, if your doing a lot of longer cuts.I'm a cabinet maker and recently retired and sold my panel saw and purchased this to use for the fewer cabinets that I'll make in retirement.Not a bad system for in the field or in retirement, but not any where close to being as fast and accurate for processing panels compared to a CNC or panel saw !

Brilliant customer service from PowerTool World in terms of answering my questions and quick dispatch. Saw is great (esp. with the rails) and is better than a table saw for a small workshop like mine as you don’t have the constant footprint of a table saw. Plus this is much better for ripping materials accurately rather than having to feed a sheet of timber through a small table saw. Impressive features too. Worth seeking out the video going through it all. Extraction is good. Much better than on my mitre saw (also Makita and to a Makita extractor)

This is an excellent device for working with wood, chipboard, MDF, HDF. I worked with the same one, used it to make cassettes for a ventilated facade, with a different cutter, really. Amazing wear resistance, the volume of work performed by it is impressive, in three years of use it has never failed, I only replaced the rubber bands on the guide, so I bought it for housework. Next day delivery, I love this company, I recommend it to everyone.

Missing several key features

Having a track saw is awesome, but if you decided to take the plunge, then I would recommend a different saw. It is missing several key features found in the Kreg and the Festool, specifically a chip-breaker, a riving knife, and anti-kickback protection. Missing the chip-breaker creates significant tear-out on when cutting plywood, which is annoying because I can't use both sides of my cut. Missing the riving knife makes me a little nervous to use it on solid wood, which makes it less effective for both plywood and solid wood. What else is left?In retrospect the Kreg saw + track would have cost the same amount, and would have given me a chip-breaker and a riving knife.

Tge Straight and Narrow

This has been an incredible saw. Clean, straight cuts with the thin kerf blade. Used it heavily over the last months on plywood, creating a straight edge on ash boards for milling, and many other tasks. Bought the Makita tracks with it also, and they make a great pairing! Only complaint is that it occasionally shuts itself off mid-cut, which causes blade shift and marring of the edge. Contacted support, but have to find time to take it to one of their depos. Prefer Dewalt’s approach with using shipping mechanisms and exhanges as it is much more efficient.

Won't make square cuts

Marketing verbiage from Makita for this product states it makes precise cuts. To me, that means I should be able to make square cuts. In fact, I would assume most users typically make square cuts. I have taken my saw to the Makita Support Center and even with it out of warranty, they tried to fix, but couldn't get it to cut at 90 degrees, so they didn't charge me. Now, I'm waiting to see if Makita will do anything about it. Don't buy this saw IF you need square cuts.

Zenith compact laminate installation

bought some compact laminate worktop . was told difficult to cut and fit and quoted £1k for fitting! though supplier said can be diy fitted.YouTube to the rescue and plunge saws came up.went for the Makita SP6000J1 Plunge Saw & 2 x 1.4m Rail - 230V. lovely box, bag for rails would have been nice.Set up the worktops and sheeted out the room due to the dust cutting this laminate kicks out. plugged our vacuum in the port and crossed our fingers and cut....slowly and carefully along the rail. Seems to have slight sideways play perhaps.overall a worthy, powerful machine which makes straight clean, perfect cuts that need little finishing. just get the length of rail that suits what you're cutting (longer if doing something like furniture).
