It has potentially useful features for bolts and countersinking woodscrews but it was disappointing to me that this new brushless model cannot drive screws any further than the 154 model impact driver. The work light is better. It is a good impact driver but, apart from the brushless motor, no real advance on the 154 model for me.

My 2014 Makita driver died after eight years of use. It had done a substantial amount of work.I looked at reviews about the latest driver the DTD172Z and they were complimentary.If you can find the Kiwi and his YouTube clips he gives a non biased opinion.I have used this new driver for a broad range of jobs since its purchase.The main power/speed control button is a real asset and makes this tool a joy to use. Want power to drive a large door frame fixing into masonry then you’ve got it.Want gentle power to remove, service and re-fit the lock mechanism of a sliding French door system, you’ve got this too, plus the other settings to suit your fixings.The old driver was good but this is in a different league.A fantastic piece of kit!Thank you Makita
