Many years in construction I am a metal framer/ drywall mechanic. I would have to rate the Makita TD 172 D (mine is purple) as the best impact I have ever used thus far. Very happy with my new purchase. The price tag Is a bit hefty but hey if you have the extra money for good quality impact drill spend it! I recommend this drill to any contractor you will be thrilled to use it and very pleased with the performance! Perfect impact for light gage and heavy gage metal. I have the Makita xtd16 as well and has served me well for past 4 years. Thank you Makita!

This driver is a little beast! I love all of the different settings available on it. Overall, it's just a reliable little work horse driver for construction.
Great tool. Slightly smaller and lighter than the US model and still manages to be stronger and quieter. Even the trigger is better. Speed control on this thing is great. Too bad we can only get Chinese made tools here and Makita won't sell made in Japan versions in the US.
This is my first purchase of a power tool from Japan, I have to say its been a good experience, but also different. The tool itself is excellent and every thing I was expecting and very light and powerful. Only concern is the possibility of tearing the heads of the screws on high setting but all the same very pleased m. Strange it comes with no makita packaging but is genuine by the serial number etc. very happy overall.
On my second small black Makita impact not the TD I also have the light blue hand held impact that has a folding handle from Japan still going strong I've had it for approximately 3 years everyday use, gonna try the TD from Japan feel that all the tools that come from Japan are better quality and last longer? in my opinion.
Powerful drill. Good quality. Its a Japanese manual so might need to spend a little time to fully understand the the function. Light weight, nice light function, and many modes for drilling different materials purple is a cool colour and easy to find in the shop. More compact then previous models. I say if you dont have the older TD171 model and only the older ones. Then this TD172 will be impressive.
Just by picking it up, you can tell this impact driver was built different from the Makitas manufactured outside their domestic market. Don't get me wrong -- the typical teal variety of Makita's offerings are still professional grade level and I have plenty (I run a full Makita system of Sawzalls, drills, grinder) but this maroon impact is a standard above. It is solidly built, trigger control focused, and can stand up to the task required of it's torque. The size and reachability in using this impact driver was a main selling point for me, but the quality should be considered especially when purchasing this impact driver -- you will not regret the money spent.

Rule explanatory booklet in Japanese, I am very very very satisfied! Highly recommend to everyone.
