Makita 18V LED Long Distance Flashlight - DML812
Makita is the leading manufacturer of professional power tools on the market. The DML812 is a bright torch with a maximum luminous flux of 1250 lm, powered by a Liion LXT 14.4 V or 18 V battery (not included), for a long beam distance of up to 640 meters in point position (the distance where the illumination drops to 0.25 lx). DML812 is a 4in1 torch. Four lighting modes are available; spot mode, flood mode (for wide illumination of a target area), spot plus flood mode and strobe mode (the torch flashes in spot and flood mode). The mode switches the bikes via flood, spot, point and flood. Press and hold for strobe. The DML812 has a variable angle head that can be moved 90 degrees at will, a mounting hook to allow the torch to be hung from bars, pipes or racks and an on/off button with a memory function that allows the user to start in the same lighting mode as the last time before the torch was turned off. The light selection button is not integrated with the on/off button for ease of use. The DML812 features a battery safety system designed to automatically disable the output for longer life and eXtreme Protection Technology (XPT) for improved dust and water resistance for use in more challenging weather conditions. The DML812 is not compatible with G Series batteries.

Throws out a lot more light than a candle. So that'll be handy for for the oncoming power cuts. I wish makita had had made the light crank downwards a bit more for working on the floor. So good but not perfect

Well, I was looking for a cordless light that I could take camping, when it dawned on me I have a lot of 5ah Makita 18v Batteries, why don't I look at Makita portable lighting? I was going to originally go for the 'tube' type Makita light, but in the end decided to try this one. I had seen a few 'review' videos on your tube(they were terrible) but bought one anyway. If you have Makita tools already, this is built to the same quality and standard. I wouldn't worry too much if it were dropped or banged about. I had it in one of my Makpac cases with a few other tools for a few weeks and it's still like new. So I'm confident in saying that it is robust. As for the task it's designed for, very surprising. I was out in the middle of nowhere country side and it lit up my van perfectly and my surroundings on the camp sight. It was the perfect tool to light up my drunken kebab for one in the middle of a camp site with two settings, bright and... not so bright, I won't say dim because it's still pretty bright with only half the LEDs lit. As for a work light, it's brilliant for lighting up a pitch black room on site so I would recommend it for that too. Comes with a shoulder strap, which you don't have to use, and a hook on the device so you can hang it on your steps or uni-strut, copperwork, cable basket etc.

Great light, both flood and spot modes work well, combined they are great also. Excellent battery efficiency too! Bright enough to barbeque with, you won't even need to start the briquets.

The flood setting works great for working in close quarters. The spot setting is the longest and brightest beam I have ever seen out of battery operated flashlight. Awesome tool!
This is the best multi-purpose light Makita made in a while. It has 3 modes: spot, flood and a combination of both. Spot mode really enables you to light up your co-worker on a ladder 20 meters up, from the ground! Flood mode is bright enough to light up your whole working area. It will last roughly 5 hours on a single charge of a BL1850(B) battery. The head can be swiveled and clicks in a number of positions. One small addition would have made it the perfect all-around light: there's no way to dim the output. You either get nothing or you get ALL, which is a serious amount of light. For close-up work, take another light: this one is TOO BRIGHT for that application! But that's not what is was made for, so that's just a minor issue. Bottom line: get it! The most ... Much better than four stars but not quite five. This is a great cordless work light with a decent run time and it illuminates a wide area with an even light level. The DML812 is a far better option than a torch + a corded halogen work light, and the powerful spotlight feature is useful when trying to locate items some distance away. The little things that let the light down are 1) although the head rotates through 90 degrees it can only be tilted from horizontal through to vertical, so it's not possible to sit the light on a bench and have it illuminate the area below, 2) there are separate on/off and mode (flood, spot & flood+spot) switches, so single-handed operation is not possible, 3) other than regularly checking the battery charge indicator there's no ... Delighted by the strength of the light. The downside is that you can't operate the 3 functions with one hand as you can with a normal torch. But this isn't to much of an issue unless you are accessing dark corridors where you want an immediate "switch" from flood to torch to dipped to full beam. I don't like the "halo" on full or dipped beam and you can't focus the beams either. But if this is for a static work place then the floodlight option really comes into its own. I bought this as I have the Makita batteries and to replace my German £400 pound torch Ledlenser, that was asking for the same amount this Makita flashlight cost for their own replacement battery! Rip off Britain? You bet! So to review if you want a flood light 10/10 if you want a nite torch to see ... MoreDelighted by the strength of the light. Rip off Britain? You bet! So to review if you want a flood light 10/10 if you want a nite torch to see you home 6/10. This loses stars because of the switching is a real mess-a-bout. IF though you are a sparky and need a flood light for work then this is excellent10/10. It has an adjustable head and a 4/5amp battery will give it the weight to keep in place. No magnets on teh body but a good secure hanger. I am being harsh because this IS Makita. 4/5 stars but I would have taken a 3.5/ 5 option. ;-)
Pro: Great light if you are already in the Makita 18V system. Bright, well made and long run time depending on battery used. Nice ergonomic design. The head will pivot from horizontal to vertical when light is sitting on a surface. Con: Head does not pivot below horizontal. If the light is sitting on a surface (work bench, tailgate, etc) you cannot point the light down. I think this is a poor design feature. You should also consider overall price. The light + battery = expensive illumination. Tip: Use a cell phone screen protector on the lens to protect it from damage in the tool box or job site.
I bought this light without testing it once and was pleasantly surprised to find that it performs better than I expected. The only thing I dislike about the light is that the head will not tilt down, which is not a big concern, just would come in handy in certain lighting situations. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase.
Bought this for my husband as a spotlight for working late winter evenings outside / checking for coyotes out in the fields prior to taking the dog out to the bathroom when dark outside. It's done well for both.
