Excellent machine. Incredibly quiet but very powerful motor. Just hums in grass. Most of the noise comes from total destruction of 15yr old woody heather and thickets of brambles. Comfortable harness (essential with this machine). Safety features work well (stops when it hits the ground or a post etc). In auto mode it tends to stop more than if you manually set one of the power levels. Remember to check the screws on the guard - mine came loose and blade chopped a chunk out of it - human error! Replacement part was reasonable price. Batteries are nice and light and you get a lot of power considering their size. However when cutting the thick brush you won't get more than 20 mins so two or preferably three sets are essential (charging time is ~45 mins)

As expected from Makita, an excellent, well-designed power tool that does the job really well. I wondered if a cordless brush cutter would be up to heavy use, but I needn't have worried. It hacks through everything!
