Bought it a month ago, took a bit of time to get used to. It is a beautifully built router that works well except for a couple of details. First, I know this was not meant to be mounted to a table but I found it works well mounted horizontally, Its not possible to adjust the height from the bottom though. Also the screws included in the base are too short to mount through any kind of additional base plate. the most critical problem is that the basic guide fence: 193312-9 is so hard to find. At this point there is only one seller online in canada that is selling it for an exorbitant price which does'nt even include the shipping. Other accessories are equally difficult to source. If Home depot is going to sell the tool they should also stock this basic accessory! what ...Β MoreBought it a month ago, took a bit of time to get used to. Great machine, however for $620 one expects that it would come with a hard carry case. Having no case is extremely annoying.

I recently purchased this Makita router (rp2301fc). I've seen some reviews asking where to get a template guide adaptor, so you can use the porter cable/dewalt type guide bushings. I also have a Leigh super 18 dovetail jig, which requires a router base that accepts a porter cable/dewalt type bushing. The Makita part is 321492-390A. I ordered it from Home Depot online, but try Acme Tools as well. There are so many good things about this router, I would have to write a book. One thing I really like is the electric brake. No more waiting an inordinate amount of time to stop. Long story short, it works great. If I were limited to one router, this Makita would definitely be it. Mine was made in Japan. I've had this router for a few weeks now. So far it is excellent and quickly becoming my favorite router. The build quality is high; operation is smooth yet powerful. Practically no bit run out (about .001") on my unit which was made in Japan. The soft-start, LED lights, and brake are nice features. I purchased the dust collection nozzle (Makita P-80023) separately and it works well. I only use this plunge router handheld so I can't comment on mounting it to a table.
I bought this about a month ago and I am very pleased with the power and the locking mechanism, the soft start and variable speed. There are however a few things that I'm disappointed with compared to my old Plunge Router. The depth measurement rod is not very user friendly, the 3 screw stopper is inadequate for 1/8 depth of cut. The manual is pretty well useless. Doesn't explain any operation or how to use the router or how to use optional guides. For the money, it should have more detailed instruction manual. For this reason I can't give it more than a 4 star rating.
I have been a Dewalt fan for years have a list of tools from them and have used them hard for the entire time. I recently purchased a house built in the twenties and had to redo the tung and groove decking not wanting to spend the money on the actual decking from the big box store I decided to make it myself. Big mistake I burned up my Dewalt 2 1/4 before I finished half. I bought the makita 3 1/4 hp to finish the job. I had no idea how much I would like this tool it breezed through the rest of the decking built all new columns with (10) 3/4" flutes per column and they were 8' long. I put a total of 1500 feet of some of the hardest routing you can do and it didn't even breath hard it went through it like butter. makita turned turned me
Great router. Nice soft start. Lots of power. The led light works awesome too. Not a fan of the big adjustment knob for adjusting the router from under a router table. The optional M6X135mm screw is discontinued by makita looks like. Not sure why it donβt just come with the router. Had a real hard time trying to track down one that size with full threads. Had to modify my router table to make it fit. The plate for my table had about 30 holes in it. But none of those patterns fit this router.
I have had this router for about three years. This machine is best for 1/2" shanks. A collet extender will allow you to use some very large diameter cutters. Plunge mechanism is superb and smooth. Electronic brakes are fast. Considering the size of this machine it is very well balanced and handles very well. In combination with the soft start feature, this power tool allows you to concentrate on the work piece not on controlling or fighting the machine. The biggest flaw in my mind is the 1/4" collet adapter. I will never likely ever use this adapter again. In 20 years of routing this is the only time I ever had a router bit try and walk out of a collet. So if you are rich in 1/4" cutters and all new 1/2" cutters are not on your radar, stay clear.Other than that ...Β MoreI have had this router for about three years. I have a 20 year old Makita Plunge Router and it beats the other 3 routers that I have. I am going to buy a new one just because it has a few new features to work in a new router table with all the adjustments from the top. They cut so much better then the other ones with the exact same 1/2" shank bit. No vibration and lose in RPM while I am cutting. Then I will get the 11/4 Hp Makita compact router for $149 that I looked at after talked to lady that has one and loves her's over the other ones and she showed me the differences. She makes a living using her's. Don't know if I will ever need my trim router again.
The linear ball bearings in the plunge mechanism make this router super smooth along with the soft start. Although a little heavy which I expected being over 3 hp this router is excellent quality and will hold up to the demands of production work.
