Makita 40V Max 4.0Ah Battery - BL4040
The new XGT batteries are specially designed for tough useLi-ion battery of the XGT series with 40 V max. and a capacity of 4.0 Ah. Charged to 80% in 31 minutes and fully charged in 45 minutes with the DC40RA charger. Four green LEDs show the remaining capacity of the battery. The battery housing is designed for tough construction site use and meets the IP64 protection standard. The Makita XGT series sets new standards and expands the application possibilities of cordless machines that were previously reserved for mains-powered machines. The 40 V max. class complements the proven 18 V LXT product range and offers users a solution that can handle particularly power-intensive work. The new batteries are specially designed to deliver higher discharge currents. This means they can withstand the demands of tough use and continuously deliver maximum power. The internal battery cells are even more protected against dust and water. The improved, shock-absorbing housing makes the batteries even more robust and safe. Digital communication between the battery, the machine and the charger ensures optimal performance of all three components. With this digital communication, noticeably longer runtimes are also achieved with one battery charge, depending on the application.

If you buy one of the new higher power Makita XGT tools, you need an XGT battery. This 40V max x 4Ah (equivalent capacity to 8Ah @18V) seemed be at the best cost per Watthour of capacity in the XGT family, although they all a bit pricey. Energy density (Wh/kg) seems to be state of the art and definitely better than that of older comparable higher voltage/capacity competitors' batteries. Power output looks so far well matched to the tool. The only real downside is they are not backwards compatible to 18V Makita (LXT) tools.

4Ah 40v batteries. I have not used them so far, just charged them. Very robust build quality and with the bigger, cooler and more powerful 2160 cells inside. Weight is around 1kg, big and heavy. For around £150 is the cheapest you can get them at the moment - it is as expensive as a cordless tool itself. Hopefully will last at least as the 18v Makita ones, which have quite a good reputation. The XGT charger seems of a very decent quality, very noisy by the way, the fan seems to be spinning like crazy. They obviously want to cool down the battery while charging it so rapidly, this is a crucial thing for keeping it's life.

Good product. Well packaged. The new xgt batteries are a lot better built and far superior to the older lxt batteries.

Amazingly more powerful than the Lxt platform.
This certainly packs a punch, shows up the 18v which most of my tools are. I splashed out on a 190 mm 40 volt saw and got another battery with the deal. Toolstation had a very good deal now I have the charger and batteries so I can get any other XGT body only.
Excellent saving on new batteries. They look and work exactly as the other batteries I got with a tool purchase. Too early to say how durable they will be, but I'm confident they were a good score.
I haven't needed to charge this 4.0 ah 40 volt battery since it arrived at my doorstep and I use it daily in my impact gun. It's big and it's bad (in a good way). Takes a little getting used the size and weight after using the 5.0 ah 18 volt for years. It's only been a month but so far so good.
I have three Makita 40v 4.0ah and they all have been excellent. I think they have more power that the normal Makita 18v 5.0ah! The batteries charge pretty quick around 45 mins! No complaints. The batteries are on the pricey side but you have to pay for quality!
Marvelous. I use it on my 10 1/4 Xgt beamsaw to cut 4x8 doug fir beams I cut about 40 cross cuts and it still had 2 bars of battery left.
The product is exactly as described. Charges and works perfectly. Thank you for a quality product.
