I bought this to dismantle and area of old decking and the supporting timbers. It was a choice between this machine, and the DJR187Z which had a brushless motor and adjustable shoe, but costs twice the price. I have to say i was pleased with my choice - it sawed through the both the decking and the supporting joists like a hot knife through butter. The supplied wood saw blade sailed through the entire job, and didn't appear worn even when i'd finished. The supplied metal saw blade managed to cut through a couple of old screws that i couldn't otherwise remove, but was blunt after that, so i was less impressed with that one. However, overall this is an impressive tool that made my job much easier and quicker. I will be buying some more blades for other jobs, such as ... MoreI bought this to dismantle and area of old decking and the supporting timbers. If i were a professional using this kind of tool every week then maybe the more expensive DJR187Z would be an appropriate choice, but for me the cheaper DJR186Z proved to be a perfect for my needs.

I bought this to cut through a cast iron pipe to modify a soil stack. It comes with 2x bi-metal 152mm blades, however after having a go with these first it was evident a longer blade was necessary. To so the job I purchased some Milwaukee 230mm ice-hardened sawzall blades, bit expensive but they worked fantastic, cut through the pipe in about 15 seconds. I used the saw with a 5.0Ah battery. Highly recommend for pipe cutting, saved loads of time and gave an accurate clean cut to easily join.

This was literally purchased for butchering purposes. We are deer hunters and this saw has made life so much easier when breaking down a beast. Previously we would have done the bandsaw which is quick, yes, but this is more portable. Don’t know why we didn’t try this earlier!

I purchased this solely on the fact that I have other Makita tools in the 18v LXT cordless range and have been very impressed with them. This Tool is no acceptation. The first thing you notice is the weight, it feels rugged, which is exactly as it should be for this type of saw.The blades are attached with a simple twisting motion and I was using a standard Makita 4AH battery. The task was to cut through multiple roots on tree stumps that had been left in the ground. After some excavation the saw blade sliced through the root system and dirt with ease. Five tree stumps were removed in no time with a huge saving on having someone provide the service. This tool does go through batteries quickly but considering the work output it’s to be expected. A second battery had the tree stumps cut up and ready for the fire pit!All in all, an excellent tool for those awkward jobs making them quick and simple. Well worth the investment and an excellent addition to your Makita range.
I bought a small battery reciprocating saw from Lidl a few years ago and use it a lot as I have many trees but thick branch easily stalled it and had a short battery life. This Makita saw is like an F1 car by comparison. It sliced through all the lower branches up to six feet on three mature conifers in minutes! I now have a new favourite saw.
I am a Makita man my son dewalt. It’s hard choice to make between the two but having followed Dad I’ve never been let down by the quality. Reliable practical tools and this is no exception. The only thing I would say about Makita get your act sorted and make all tools brushless. The second Dewalt always has offers unlike Makita.
Easy blade change, quite heavy but have a Bosch 240 v version so new what I was getting. Because I have the Makita batteries & charger for the price it's a good buy. Can take anywhere And i's safer than using a chainsaw & no chains to sharpen. It'll do exactly what I've bought it for coppicing work.
Ok the only reason i bought this saw was to saw up some wood. yup. We chopped some leylandi down in the garden and wanted it sawn up for wood burner. I had dabbled with the idea of getting a small chainsaw, but to be honest the thought petrified me. After some research - and reading about chainsaw deaths ! I found that some people use a reciprocating saw. So I bought one, from powertool world (easily the best price). I also bough the makita 20cm blades too as they were recommended elsewhere.I am more than pleased with purchase. It has gone to the top of my list of fave power tools. I was easily able to cut up the logs with it. One small caveat though. What you gain in safety, you lose in effectiveness. I was easily able to cut up the logs with it. One small caveat though. What you gain in safety, you lose in effectiveness. So I am not going to pretend that the saw does this as effectively as a chainsaw (Nothing cuts wood as effectively) and I also found that I kept having to charge the battery again and again for the really big logs I was cutting (more on this later). I did buy the bigger 5amp 18v battery as my 3amp was not cutting it (no pun intended). I would say it lasts about 3 times longer and would definitely recommend. I have absolutely no regrets about buying, the saw is instant cutout when you release the trigger and the pain of having to recharge far outweighs the danger of operating a very dangerous tool. Also, to be fair, it is only the fact that I have been cutting up 20cm+ logs that I needed to keep recharging, i don;t expect to be doing this often. All in all a brilliant purchase.
I bought this saw mainly to cut down thirty feet of Privet hedge and because most of my Power Tools use the Makita LXT battery system. Be aware this is private not trade use. I found that, at the price I paid, it was a much cheaper option than paying someone to do the job and I end up with a useful saw. The tool made short work of the job with the supplied wood blade. If used as advised the saw was controllable and noise and vibration were no problem. I also bought some longer, ridiculously cheap, Saxton wood blades to have a go at the 8" diameter remains of an Apple tree. By working around cutting wedges and then the centre I was able to do it. However the saw was struggling and I would not advise doing too much of that sort. I have been using this saw to cut out redundant 2” steel heating pipes and it cuts through them very quickly and with ease using Bosch coarse toothed blades. There’s no hot works as with a grinder and much easier cuts than a jigsaw.Don’t know how I’ve managed without one for so long. My only criticism is that it eats through 3ah batteries pretty quickly but overall I’m very pleased. Not a tool that’ll I’ll use every day, but definitely a great addition to my kit.
