Makita appears to have many very similar products. In the past I have had a drill that was incompatible with most other products (different battery and charger), a drill that is less powerful than what I thought I was getting and this time it's a saw which answers the same description as what I expected but is different. I have looked to see what the difference is between the DS.. range and DH range and I can find nothing.

This is a great quality saw as you would expect from Makita. Its well made with very high quality cast aluminum base plate and controls. Equipped with 3AH battery and the saw blade provided it easily cuts an inch thick dry oak and walnut boards. However I had two issues with the saw: First - it came well wrapped in plastic and not in a cardboard box despite of my communication with FFX who assured me its boxes item. It was not, most likely it was part of a bigger set which was sold out piece by piece. Second - I should have been more careful before purchase and should have noticed the saw is intended for left hand users. This was never mentioned in the description. When pushed with right hand, the sawdust covers all your arm and face as the dust nozzle points ... MoreThis is a great quality saw as you would expect from Makita. Bottom line - its an excellent and well performing saw however it requires a vac or some sort of workaround to fix the Sawdust nozzle issue.

Solid comfy machine to use, excellent for angle cuts and good for timbers up to about 50mm.The 5.oAh battery allowed for a good amount of cuts, but if you are using it for durations longer than 3 - 3 hrs ensure you have a spare charging.Noticed good safety features and easy adjustable depth and angle settings.Happy with my purchase.

I needed to get a circular saw for a series of small projects I'm doing at home. As I decided to go with Makita for a new drill set and sander, it was the way to go for a saw.It has been years since I last used one (but used to use one daily for work when I had a lot more hair), and I was impressed with how far the technology has come, and how light this was compared to corded saws. One thing I hadn't noticed when buying it was that the blade is on the left side. At first I was a bit surprised, but it turned out to be perfect for sighting along the line and using a speed square to guide it. The only draw back to this being that the saw dust ends up blowing back at you a bit more than on a right-hand sided blade. The only draw back to this being that the saw dust ends up blowing back at you a bit more than on a right-hand sided blade. (It didn't help that it was blowing up a hoolie yesterday.)It comes with a 16 tooth blade, so I bought a separate 40 tooth blade because I wanted a finer cut for the work I was doing.I made about 100 cuts on a mix of treated 2x2s, 2x4s and decking boards using one charge of a 5.0 battery, but it was beginning to struggle a little at the end, so pay attention to the power levels in the battery.I only had one incident of kickback throughout, and that was just me being stupid. Now if only I can learn how to cut straighter...
Bought this to cut up some old pallets and boards into manageable pieces finally chop up with a crosscut saw. I have another Makita corded circular saw, but it was too unwieldy for this job. Very impressed with the new one. Lightweight, no chance of getting tangled in the flex. Not as powerful as the big one but that's not always a downside as it has less tendency to snatch and jump. The teeth on the blade are coarse so more suited to rough cutting, so I'll probably swap to a finer blade for more accurate work.
Although I do a reasonable amount of diy I was a bit anxious about using a circular saw. All the cautionary comments about safety made me wonder if I should buy. But it turned out to be ideal for my purposes. I followed all the safety and use advice and found it straightforward to use with its own inbuilt safety settings. Its relatively light as well which is useful for female diyers.
A brilliant piece of kit I've been wanting for ages. I was delighted when my old faithful mains circular saw died with a great cloud of smoke and dreadful melting plastic smells and I could finally justify buying a Makita cordless. Not that my wife has a say in what I buy you understand... Anyway it's even better than I imagined, making light work of sawing down the grain of a door I was fitting. Truely the dogs!
This is a nice little circular saw. Very nimble, without the clumsiness of a trailing power cable. Unlike my previous saws, this one has the motor on the 'outboard' (right hand side) of the tool. Used conventionally, with the waste wood to the right of the direction of cut, this has the advantage of giving uncluttered clearance for clamps and the fence on the left hand side. However, it does mean the exact cutting line is affected by the kerf of the blade. I replaced the supplied 16T blade with 1.5mm kerf with a 40T blade, with 1.6mm kerf. This moves the line of the cut 0.1mm inboard from the cut line marked on the tool. In practice, this probably isn't going to be much of an issue, as users will mostly be using a fence of some kind and they can experiment to find ... MoreThis is a nice little circular saw. Battery life (with 4.0AH batteries) seems very good and the tool is well balanced.
Essential bit of kit for your toolbox. As a site carpenter I use this every day for quick cutting of 2×2 & 4×2 timber/ architrave & skirting. Use an LXT 5 amh battery & your good to go all day.Light weight, smooth cutting, easy to use.If your going to rip down loads of 18mm ply then use your 110v skilsaw, but for general use I highly recommend this tool.
I bought this for cutting some sleepers to size. Worked as expected for this: cut one side, turn it over, cut from the bottom. No problems cutting these except when my cuts didn't line up and I can't really blame the tool for that.Fast forward to next project and I really needed to cut a sleeper length-ways. I had doubts that this saw would be up to the challenge, but I was getting desperate and tried it anyway. 5 minutes later, I'd cut a full 2.4 meter sleeper length ways using same method of cut top then bottom side.
