This saw has been in my metalworking arsenal for over 10 years. It's been used in a light duty fabrication shop. I can't count how many cuts it's made over the years. It makes perfectly square cuts which are burr free and require no cleanup at all before fit up. Try that with an abrasive saw. Another benefit is how long the blade lasts. We've only changed the blade once and it has made many thousands of cuts. Many guys will complain about the cost of blades but if you compare the cost of how many abrasive blades you would have gone through to make the same number of cuts these dry cut saws are actually cheaper per cut. not to mention all the benefits of the cut quality. A couple highlights which I really like are the built in chip collector which works well. Also the miter fence is much better than any other saw like this on the market. A quick pull out handle releases the clamping fence which allows you to make angled miter cuts with ease. I use this feature all the time. most saws require a wrench to accomplish this same thing and is a complete pain. The hold down clamp works great and has never had any issues with clamping force. The base is very sturdy, much better than the "yellow" saw equivalent which is very flexy. Many will complain about the 12" blade versus a 14" blade but I've never had any issues with capacity. Compared to a 14" abrasive saw this has the same or better capacity. At the end of the day I could not live without this tool in my metal shop. Between this and my Ellis 1600 band saw I feel like I have all cutting bases covered for my needs.

This saw worked right out of the box and I put it to work right away. I have used a abrasive cutoff saw previously but needed something more precise. Used this saw for hundreds of cuts on 2x2, 4x2, 5x2, 1/4” square steel tubing, cold rolled 1”-3” dowel. 1/2”x6” plate. Cuts through it all like butter. Very little dust, minimal sparks, easy clean up. The miter is easy to adjust and holds its angle very precisely. The clamp holds the material very well. Love this saw. If your looking for a metal chop saw this is worth every penny. My mitre cuts are dead on making welding frames a joy. Wish I hadn’t wasted my money on abrasive saws in the past. If your thinking of buying this saw...:do it. I’m very pleased.

Had an abrasive chop saw for years, absolutely no comparison to this Mikita dry cut saw. The dry cut saw cuts with no smell, no heat, no burring and way faster than an abrasive saw. I just cut 2800 lbs of steel to build a fence, everything from 1” tubing to 3” tubing with no issues. Probably 500 cuts and is still as quick as the first cut. Highly recommend.

I've waited a couple yrs before I could justify buying this saw and read many reviews on similar ones. This one is great. I love Makita tools and this is no exception. The cuts are awesome, I love the quick release on the clamp too. Most saws have a stupid flip nut, but this works the opposite way and is so easy. The no tool ability to change the fence also is a real bonus. I don't know how long the blade will last yet, But I'm in high hopes of long service. Great saw guys!
I am on my second one because I just about wore out my first one (that I bought used) after years and years of abuse. I would still be using my first one but I got a deal I could not pass up. So I sold my old one for $100 with an old blade! Although this saw and its blades is a little on the pricey side, it will save you money in the end by making awesome straight cuts. I can make thousands of cuts with one blade ranging from 0.5"-4" material with thicknesses of .065-.250. Advantages: Very little to no sparks. Blade does not shrink like abrasive blades. No blade deflection even on angle cuts. Material does not heat up. Way less slag from cuts. No nasty black metal dust just 1/8" little chunks that are super easy to pick up with a shop vac.
Works brilliantly. Quieter than a standard abrasive saw, cuts quicker and cleaner too.Bit of advice, chuck a bit of square tube in the jaws, sticking past the cutting area and weld another bit of square to it that sits against the right hand side of the unit, this makes a quick and easy angle jig for quickly moving between common angles.
Very capable saw but limited by blade and design to specific types of material. Not too good on thin wall (16 ga) tubing, which was what I planned to use it for. Risk of damage to blade and some safety risk. Works FANTASTIC on heavier wall material. It "mills" it's way through material rather than sawing in the usual sense making incredibly smooth cuts. Great quality for the buck, and very glad I bought it, just didn't address my immediate need and there was no way to tell beforehand. May be able to buy another type blade. Still researching. READ THE MANUAL! There are very important non-intuitive things you MUST know for both efficiency and safety.
I was torn between this saw or a bandsaw to replace my crapped out cheapo metal chop saw. I only use a metal saw from time to time for certain projects so I felt that a more portable easy to store saw would suite me best. I built a utility trailer and used this saw for the cuts. All I can say this thing is a million times better than my old saw that made alot of dust and was much slower cutting. This saw cuts like butter and just leaves small shards of metal which is easily cleaned up. Super straight cuts as well. Highly recommend this saw.
I have been attempting to work with an abrasive chop saw but it is dusty, sparks fly everywhere, and angle cuts were off. The thing that made me consider this was when the abrasive blade broke apart while I was cutting flat stock. Now it was a cheap brand, but it made me not enjoy working with metal. I have a Makita 4 inch grinder that is 29 years old, so I think Makita is up for the jobs I have. Makita has service centers thought the US. I dealt with them on a recall for another Makita tool and they were great. For safety and making accurate cuts I chose to pay more and buy Makita.
Wish I had something like this 30 years ago. Friction saw are smokey, slow and very bad for health ! This saw does job perfect ! amazing. 75% faster then friction saw !Information suggests that never cut aluminum, reason is with out cutting lube you can cloak up cutting teeth and break gear box possible. I cut aluminum all day np. Must use a cutting lube! I find the thin blade chatters a lot so you need get used to finding the right cutting load pressure. I would but this saw again any day ! You wont be disappointing
