I've used this saw for cutting EMT conduit, pvc, and some yard work. This saw shines when cutting in very confined spaces, or you are standing on a ladder and not in a safe position to use a larger saw.I used it to cut material where I had no room for a hacksaw much less a traditional reciprocating saw. As for cutting some limbs, it doesn't have enough power. I can cut faster with a handsaw than this unit. Don't expect this to cut with the same force as the standard cordless Makita reciprocating saw. They are two completely different motors. Overall, it's not a bad tool. This saw paid for itself because it could fit between two 480V panels, cut off some things that were in code violation without having to move one of the panels.

Cut threw a 2x4 with a multi blade (wood/metal) which was included with the saw. Was not easy but made it threw. It is advertised as compact and light duty and that is exactly what it is.Had seen some youtubes saying it does the job with effort and patience. I do not have much experience with power tools so this was both relieving and I would say very accurate. I would expect it to cut metal easily (seen in a video) and perhaps wood better if I had a wood only blade. Not disapointed but was ignorant of what I was getting myself into. Feels like quality.

A light weight reciprocating saw that can be used with one hand,. My last one,( same model ) , lasted ten years and could have been repaired with a few small parts. Great tool.

Great for medium duty applications. I use my to cut 3" PVC plastic pipe. One hand operation makes it easy to hold your material for a quick cut. Not as fast as a larger cordless Sawsall. It's light weight, and your able to position it into small working areas.
This saw is a well designed, easy to use mid-level tool. Makita has a reputation for making good, useful tools. This is a good saw for homeowners and do-it-yourselfers with little or no experience of tool use. The dual saftey locks protect the user from accidents while giving you an option to use one or two hands while working. I would not suggest trying to use this for heavy demolition or construction as neither the battery power nor the saw motor will handle it well. Other than that, it is a good and useful home tool.
Nice portable saw. Works well. there are two ways to turn it on. The front lower switch has a two step engagement which works well. The conventional trigger switch is a little ackward to use. It has a safety button that has to be engaged before the actual trigger is depressed. you almost have to use your other hand to disengage the safety button and then depress the trigger. If the safety was on the other side, you could use your thumb and index finger to turn it on.
I purchased with the intent that it would be usable for true heavy duty demo. What was mistaken once I received it so I thought about returning but decided this is light enough that I could use it for carrying in the woods to make shooting Lanes and purchased some reciprocal saw blades for pruning. So unless you have some light duty work I do not recommend purchasing this model.
Looks and operates as new. Compact enough for tight spots. Shorter stroke is great for shallow cuts. Enough power to cut what you are up against.
Used exclusively for pruning. Pros: - Cuts anything with a diameter smaller than the pruning blade. - Lots of cuts with the 4Ah battery. Nonstop work for about 2 hours with 3 batteries. - With strong arms can be handled one handed -- useful when climbing trees or holding small diameters bushes - The chainsaw is now only for large diameter cuts (foot or more) Cons: - Buy expensive pruning blades ($10+ kind) or they will bend or break - It's my second one. The "quick release" for the blades jammed (after 4 years of use) and it's a jigsaw puzzle to reassemble. Careful when inserting and removing blades, keep everything free of debris. - Not as manly as wielding a smoke-belching chainsaw.
I finally got to take this saw to work and use it like it is supposed to be. I had zero malfunctions or problems using it. Keep in mind this saw will not replace your recip.saw. its not supposed to. This saw is perfect for a small saw to keep close by, possibly on your tool belt for smaller stuff. IT WILL CUT big stuff but it will take longer. When you feel how small and light this saw is you will appreciate what it is for. being so small and light, it has a smaller slower motor. so. Me and one other contractor used this saw all day. wish we had two.
