I started out by buying the corded Makita router kit that comes with an entire attache of attachments and I really like that kit. But I found that I sometimes need a router that's not bulky and heavy in places where theres no electricity so I purchased the 18 volt Makita 1/4 horsepower router, a couple batteries and a charger. Doing so gives me all the options I need when it counts. I love this router! It's super easy to use and set up, has a light so you can see where you're using it, and is variable speed to boot! Very powerful for its size and made with the quality that you would expect from Makita. I would buy this tool again for sure. Very satisfied with my purchase.

I bought this router trimmer last year and it is awesome. It is built strong, compact and very lightweight compared to my old Craftsman router. I do a lot of woodworking and highly recommend this product. It is extremely powerful. The only complaint I have is that I had to buy the dust shield separate. It’s a must. Recommend having Makita include this small item with the tool.

Like all makita tools you get what you pay for and some, this tool is lightweight and extremely controllable with soft start so there is no jerting of the tool on start up and with varied speed control makes it a pleasure to use, the depth adjustment gauge is easy to read and operate, it's not spring loaded so it's easy to lock in place with absolutely no movement of depth of the bit chosen. There is also a guild rail that is simple and quick to install with a great range of distance from 20mm to over 250mm this will keep you in a perfectly straight line with nil error. One other handy feature is a lock button next to the power switch to avoid accidental operation of the tool. All up this is a great tool and exceptional value for money.

So I own 3 other routers all corded and decided to get this one since I already owned multiple Makita 18volt tools. Been using it for a couple weeks and it’s quickly become my favorite. Has lots of power and battery life has been great. The lights light up your spindle nicely. The depth adjustment is quick and smooth. I’m keeping my 1/8” round over bit in it for all my quick round overs. Probably going to pick up the complete kit with Plung base. Great tool if you have the Makita setup already it’s a no brainer you get it.
Well built unit, compact yet powerful. Easy to control and operate.
It's a Makita tool. Not much more needs to be said. This powerful little machine is a work horse and a pleasure to work with. I bought the plunge and dust port attachments to go along with it and I'm all set. Battery run time is Excellent for my needs. I've never run out of battery while using this tool. Would I recommend it.....? You bet I would.....! Thanks Makita for another Quality tool..... Doug Farwig
If you’re already on the 18v XLT battery platform and looking for a compact cordless trim router then this is for you. PROs: Easy to handle, plenty of power for most 1/4” bits, good shaft lock for bit changes, decent visibility of the cut. CONs: depth adjustment/lock is a bit clunky and hard to fine tune, power and start button arrangement is slightly annoying when making a series of passes because the tool must be powered on then started each time.Comes with 1/4” and 3/8” collets and collet wrenches plus 1/2” OD bushing for template routing. Decent instruction manual for those inclined to read such things. Standard plastic base plate is small (of course), but after market base plates/adapters can be configured. So much nicer having this than having to setup my router table, and feels a lot safer than the 2 1/4 hp router on my table. Has plenty of power for what I do. It's got a really bright light which is a big thing for me not having to worry about casting shadows with all my lighting being overhead. I would recommend or wish it was included is a dust extraction attachment, but they aren't very much and make a world of difference, versus not having one.
First I am pleased Makita names their tools 18V and not an exaggerated number with the word MAX added to it. Im a woodworker who builds & installs cabinets, doors, book shelves, etc. Makita 18V compact brushless tools are the perfect size for me. Theyre light, compact, and have a very long run time for the type of work I do. I started with the Drill / Impact Driver combo set. Ive driven a lot of wood screws in sheet goods, soft wood & hard wood and have installed a lot of door hardware, and am very pleased with both tools. The soft start trigger and work light are an added bonus. I added a XCV11Z canister vacuum. Its just the right size for taking to job sites, not too bulky in my truck and big enough to meet my needs. It consumes more battery, so I got a 5.0Ah ... MoreFirst I am pleased Makita names their tools 18V and not an exaggerated number with the word MAX added to it. The soft start trigger and work light are an added bonus. I added a XCV11Z canister vacuum. Its just the right size for taking to job sites, not too bulky in my truck and big enough to meet my needs. It consumes more battery, so I got a 5.0Ah battery. Now for the XTR01Z router. The most frequently used router bit for me is a top bearing pattern cutting bit. I use it with shop-built templates to install door hardware, do inlay repairs and occasionally do on-site joinery. My usual depth of cut is the thickness of a hinge leaf or strike plate done with a diameter bit. This does not require a lot of power, so a small tool will do the job plus is easier to handle and gives me better visibility to the cut area. My first impression of the XTR01Z trim router was the fit and finish are great. There is a padded rubber grip that I like a lot especially when my hands get covered with sawdust. The router has an integral work light and electronic variable speed, both features have come in handy. Im really pleased with the operating sound level- It surprised me. I have no way of measuring it, but its about half of what I expected and also not a high pitched whine. The battery mounts to the top, so the larger the battery the more top heavy the tool gets, fortunately for me, the 2.0Ah battery is all I need. I plan to make a larger sub-base probably out of clear Lexan or Plexiglas. This will help a lot when installing 4-1/2 hinges. I like this tool. I like having 1 charging system, I like having interchangeable batteries with fuel level indicators. I wish the accessory DC18SE automotive charger cost less, but sooner or later the right deal will come along. Hope you found this helpful.
I’ve used other compact routers and none even come close to this perfection! It has so much power, you can easily cut through dense hardwoods like Padauk and Zebrawood like it was a stick of warm butter! But don’t you fret, it’s lightweight design and smooth rubber grip allow you to keep your hands on it and in one piece! There are plenty of accessories available for this and its also compatible with some of the well known desktop CNC machines.I recommend this for beginners and professionals of all trades!
