I use this head for somewhat of an unconventional purposefor wedding video. The ball head sits atop a Bogen 9 light stand, and allows me to quickly attach a palmcorder for a stationary balcony cam during the ceremony, a 20-watt light for some creative lighting shots before the reception, and as a microphone mount to mic the DJs speakers during the toasts at the reception. The 482 Micro Ball Head is small, yet very durable and very well made. It serves my purposes perfectly, making my light stand a very flexible tool for doing my job!

These little ball heads are perfect at giving me shot flexibility in a small, lightweight package. I use them in some compact time lapse setups, and they've changed the game for me, making my setup more functional and compact while giving it a much more professional appearance. This rating is for the third batch of them I've purchased because the rigs I put together with the first set worked so well that I keep deploying more of them.
If you're looking for a small but quality ball head with a good weight rating, this is the one. Great feel and hold, typical Manfrotto quality. One star off for price. Seems a bit steep but wont really complain since I trust this to hold my camera on top of a light stand.

I used this ball head on a monopod to steady my shots, seems to work very well!
I needed a strong and small ball head for random gear I wanted to mount on light stands. These are a tad pricey (minus one star) but you can feel the superior build quality. Locking and other functions work great.
PLEASE. Bring back the old elegant, simple version! I use this (the old one) ALL THE TIME for both light and heavy equipment. Manfrotto makes great equipment--solid. But really. Who designed this?
