Compared to the already very good Marantz CD6007, the CD60 adds some extra clarity and scale it may well be everything there is.20 years ago it's performance would have been well into four figures if even possible.Physically it's much bigger than the average cd player. Can't help feeling its a gift at the price.

I bought this, with advice from Simon at Glasgow, to replace an old but quality Philips cd880. One reason of several for choosing the Marantz was for compatibility with my new Marantz model 40n - also from Glasgow. The quality of sound I now get equals, and at times betters, that from the vinyl version played on my Linn lp12. I am so pleased with this, and a bonus is how both cd player and amp match together visually; just a shame there is no ambient lighting on the cd to complete the match. Thanks to the Glasgow chaps, I recommend this branch unreservedly.

From a budget CD Player I didn't expect much but here is what surprised me when auditioning... 1. Build quality: albeit a plastic fascia the solid rock mechanism is flawless in operation with good quality gears under the tray. 2. Ergonomics & Functionality: easy and intuitive to use, nice large buttons and little clutter. Some useful features such as headphone jack/volume control; not normally seen on budget Players at this price point. 3. Sound quality: this is where I was most surprised, the reproduction was detailed, warm, and natural; particularly good when listening to instrumental music but equally good when it came to vocals. Dynamics were good and the Player had a good sense of timing, I specially liked the sense of space around every represented instrument ... MoreFrom a budget CD Player I didn't expect much but here is what surprised me when auditioning... 1. All-in-all I reckon that this Player could stand up against the Pioneer stable platter range and Sony's ES range, to give them a good run for their money! Perhaps the best budget Player I have tested....I can't think of any other second hand buy under 100 that could beat it. If you see one on sale, buy it!!!

Great sound and styling from Marantz

Review of Marantz CD60I decided to purchase a Marantz Model 30 amp and use my old CD player as I prefer listening to vinyl over CD’s, so the CD player only gets occasional use.Just as I was about to order the amp the drawer on my CD player started playing up, I had already looked at the Marantz SACD-30N and decided that was to much to pay for a CD player and streaming device, but fortunately I found the Marantz CD60 on line at Richer Sounds (they had kindly already loaned me the amp to try out, so I decided to order a CD player from them at the same time). This was a bit of a reluctant purchase on my part for the reasons already stated, so I was really surprised to find just how good the CD60 sounds connected with the Marantz Model 30 amp, the warm sound is ... MoreReview of Marantz CD60I decided to purchase a Marantz Model 30 amp and use my old CD player as I prefer listening to vinyl over CD’s, so the CD player only gets occasional use.Just as I was about to order the amp the drawer on my CD player started playing up, I had already looked at the Marantz SACD-30N and decided that was to much to pay for a CD player and streaming device, but fortunately I found the Marantz CD60 on line at Richer Sounds (they had kindly already loaned me the amp to try out, so I decided to order a CD player from them at the same time). This was a bit of a reluctant purchase on my part for the reasons already stated, so I was really surprised to find just how good the CD60 sounds connected with the Marantz Model 30 amp, the warm sound is very similar to vinyl to the point that it’s hard to tell the difference between the two and the fact that it matches the amps styling is just great. There are several things I feel that are worth a mention. The remote for the Model 30 amp is not really compatible with the CD60 very few buttons can be used, this is a shame because although the remotes look similar the amps remote feels very high quality, not that there is anything wrong with the CD60’s more standard finish remote, but it would have been nice to have had both options. I did contact Marantz and they said it was not possible to configure the amps remote for the CD60, in other words you can only utilise most of the buttons with the amp and the SACD-30N.The CD60 has a USB Flash Drive on the front panel so I decided to buy a SanDisk Ultra Luxe USB 3.1 Flash Drive in silver metal with 64GB storage.I tried some music files with MP3 and AAC at 320 kbps and the sound was pretty good but you could tell the music was compressed. So I then tried some files with Apple Lossless and the quality was excellent and on par with CD’s. The Marantz displays the artist name and song title if using a flash drive so it’s a shame the same can’t be displayed when playing CD’s.When you turn the CD player on and press enter to play a music file, the message Wrong Format is briefly displayed for a couple of seconds for each track regardless of the music format I used, once it has read all of the tracks for that file it will then play as normal. This may be down to the image size I use 600 x 600 for my music files and Marantz say the maximum image should be no more than 500 x 500 for MP3 and Apple Lossless and less forMPEG-4 AAC.I would say that a 64GB Flash Drive will store approximately 150 albums in the Apple Lossless format, if you use larger capacity Flash Drives it may take longer for the CD to read all the files and it will take longer to search through your music.I should also mention that I could not get the CD60 to work with any track that is 40 minutes or longer, for example I have some live concerts which I had to edit into sections of a maximum of 30 minutes long to allow the Marantz to read the tracks. The only real advantage of using a Flash Drive is if you don’t have the music on CD, you don’t have the room to store any more CD’s, or you wish to make some playlists from your music collection. So it’s a nice feature from Marantz and I am pleased they included the USB.Overall I am really happy with my purchase of the Marantz CD60, the price was considerably less than the SACD-30N, it sounds great and appears to be well made, so I have no regrets and would highly recommend this product.

Great upgrade
1 June 2023

I was using a cd player from the 1980's and 1990's. This a significant upgrade in both quality of build and better sound. I got excellent advise on deciding to purchase this unit. I feel the quality of sound has improved and this player seems mechanically superior.I would recommend this to someone else in the market for an upgrade.

I Have A CD 6007
25 September 2023

And it was the first CD player I ever owned with a noticeable - immediately noticeable - improvement in sound quality. If Marantz's claims of "CD 60 performance is superior to the excellent CD6007 in terms of THD, SNR, dynamic range, and sound quality." then it will be a truly impressive device. I also have a Marantz PM7000N that I am very pleased with. Upgrading the pair to a CD 60 / Model 40 would be a very nice combination, both sonically and esthetically.

Stunning sound.

I bought this player a fortnight ago as I needed to replace my Arcam which I'd also bought from you 20+ years ago. I tried out a Marantz 6007 and Rotel CD11 beforehand but came back to listen to the CD 60 after reading very favourable reviews by professionals and member of the public. The cds I trialled included a live rock concert recorded 50 years ago and a 16th century accapella choral piece. The remastered rock cd was simply stunning with the CD 60 able to separate the various instruments and voices from the background electronic roar with amazing precision. The sound had far greater depth than I'd heard previously and the band members could easily be visualised in their positions on stage. The clarity was unbelievable. The player was able to separate many of the 40 voices on the choral work and most of the words which are in Latin could be heard very clearly. At home I've played a numb prof discs that range from rock music recorded 50+ years ago through to the very latest as well as orchestral works. All have been elevated to new heights and I almost regard them as new recordings. I have to commend very highly the salesman at the Hull shop, Phil, who was knowledgeable, informative and used terms both technical and simple whenever necessary to answer my questions. At no time was I pressured into buying amore expensive product [I'd already really decided] and I felt I was given enough info to make an informed choice.

A very recent purchase to go with the Model 30 amplifier. Like the amplifier, the build quality is immense. The CD tray operates very smoothly and feels strong. The sound reproduction is excellent and it is attractive to look at.
