Marantz has come a long way with the slim line series. This is no exception for this full featured receiver. If you were going to run this in a 2.1 or 3.1 set up, it will be perfect for your small towers or your bookshelves. However if you are looking for a full 5.1 surround sound or larger, you will need a something with a bigger amplifier. This does have a lot of of pre-outs on it so you can use with a separate amplifier, however, if you were looking for everything new all in one component for a larger system, you will need to consider the of the Cinema line of receivers to power your system.

Sounds great in a mid-sized (12'x15') room with my 5.1 B&W 602S3 / LG C9 OLED / Squeezebox3 setup - maybe not the power reserves of the Arcam but more than compensated by the up-to-date format support and faultless eARC connection to the TV - if I ever need more oomph (unlikely) it can easily drive external power amps. I needed to upgrade my Sonos AMP for a proper AVR due to lack of HDMI ports.Paired with KEF LS50 Meta bookshelf speakers along with KEF KC62 Sub this thing performs great and supports any type of modern decoding. Lack of 1440p support for PS5 (can do 1080p and 4K) is not heart breaking but I haven't seen AVRs on the market that support it natively.Integration with Apple TV, Turntable and other stuff is fantastic too and QMS, auto switching and Audyssey (yes I would prefer DIRAC live but at this price point is impossible) is fantastic and overall I am very happy.Keep in mind that due to slim form factor, you only get 50W per channel so make sure your speakers are efficient. Was on the fence for a while about my next AVR. Worked with Daryl at my local best buy, great guy, very knowledgeable and went out his way to hook this up for me to demo.First things first, 50 watts seems like not a lot and I can safely say, this slimline delivers and then some.Setup was super easy and runs my 5.1 plus some 2 remarkably well.Sound wise the AB amplification is warm and detailed.Will be utilizing the pre amp mode at some point but to be honest, if you are in a small to medium room, this AVR may be all you ever need.Oh, and it's great to look at as well

First, BH delivered right on time w discounted shipping so Santa could have something under the tree. Thanks.Letting unit burn in, but the need was for atmos / hdmi switching to simplify HT. Using as pre and two channels for zone 2. It's working well. Is it as musical as the legacy Anthem it replaced, ? No. Not yet at least. But for HT and simplifying HDMI connects/Arc. So far so good.
The new Marantz Cinema 70S is a triumph of design and function. If you have a small media / TV room, it might be all you need if you just run a 2.1 setup (front left, front right and powered subwoofer). Pair it with premium bookshelf speakers and you have a system that can handle music and movies wonderfully. The A-B amplification is warm and detailed, suitable for music. It has 3 4K HDMI inputs and 3 8K HDMI inputs, for some extra future-proofing. And it is luxurious box. Marantz has fully embraced being a luxury brand, and this product shows it. It's a solid unit. Could last one 20 years. It's seriously good.
