I am delighted that I bought this. It is surprisingly small and light but is packed with a great range of features. I was concerned that I would not be able to set it up - being 78 with minimum tech skills- but it took less than two hours, most of which time was connecting bare wire speakers. The online manual is one of the best I have ever seen, it even has a diagram of how to.place the remote control batteries! Once set up it is very easy to use - the remote works well and bluetooth connection is the fastest and easiest I have ever seen. The sound is superb on cd, bluetooth and streaming. I am.using Dali Oberon 1 speakers which are perfect for the small room I am using.Radio reception is very poor in my location, we have always needed a roof aerial but with ... MoreI am delighted that I bought this. Even though the sound of a music system depends on all elements in the chain, the source, the amplifier, the speakers and the room acoustics, the result is fine. In our settings this amplifier is probably not the weakest link.Perhaps two snags: first, to my taste I would prefer a simpler design, no lights like in cheap fair ground equipment; second, when playing my collection of classical music from a USB stick, I would have expected the device to browse the file system as it is. Unfortunately, it seems to use the ID3v2 tags and classical works get all mixed up, e.g. movements of a symphony are not in the correct track or file order. I should not be too difficult to allow a feature that allows sort order to be configurable.

I really like the Marantz Medlody X M-CR 612. I was looking for a small compact but powerful unit to pair with some Dali Spektor 2s to put in my new kitchen extension. My main setup includes a Marantz CD 6007 which I really like, and I liked the fact that the Melody X includes a CD player, hence looking at this unit. I also wanted to stream audio from my NAS, which has FLAC rips of my entire CD collection of over 7000 albums. So I really like the flexibility offered by the Melody. The CD player is solid and produces an impressive sound through the Dali Spektor 2s. The streaming via NAS also works well, as does the internet radio via TuneIn. The overall sound is excellent for the price point and size of the unit. Obviously nowhere near as good as my 'main' stereo ... MoreI really like the Marantz Medlody X M-CR 612. Obviously nowhere near as good as my 'main' stereo setup, but as that is composed of Cambridge Audio separates and Maurdaunt Short floorstanders, it wouldn't be. Nevertheless, it is more than enough to fill the large ish space of the extension (almost 50 square metres) with music. I also find the HEOS app very good (I know it has it's detractors, but it works perfectly for me). My only minor gripe is that the unit takes a very long time to connect when streaming or listening to internet radio when first turning the unit on- about a minute. I'm a bit puzzled why this should be, but I guess I can live with it given the overall performance.

So far (1 month) this unit has been a revelation. In order of excellence; Sound - Both hi-res cd and lossless usb. Function - built in wi-fi, usb and most streaming apps. Build - solid. Looks - beautiful. I use this unit in the bedroom to stream lossless WAV files from my MacBook through my Dali speakers and listen to the internet radio on occasion. If I were to try and find fault it would be the sometimes fiddly set-up of the internet radio but that's really being critical.
This is definitely a step up from my Denon 41Dab in sound and features. I had wondered whether I'd really notice the difference in sound quality but now that I've heard it the extra cost is certainly well worth it.Its not only the uplifting sound which justifies the extra cost but there are so many more useful features. Although I found setting up the Heos account a little fiddly, once its done this Marantz offers so much more choice of music source. Internet radio stations can be saved in favourites and Heos favourites, and then easily recalled either in the Heos app on my phone or alternatively by using the remote control. I upgraded my over 30 years old powerful Kenwood amplifier for this unit but kept my floor standing Morden Shaw speakers with some hesitation. Within a few days I transformed my listening habit with full flexibility. Apart from the great sound this compact amp managed to drive through the big speakers the improvements in sound quality shows in everything I put it through. Performance on the CD player is to be expected but the digital signal from the TV surprised me as without all the fuss about surround sound the sound surpassed any past theatre system I owned. Connectivity to Amazon Music and other streaming station can be through all kinds of channels and controlled via the remote, iPhone/iPad or Firestick without any fuss. I haven’t tried multi-room yet as I am ... MoreI upgraded my over 30 years old powerful Kenwood amplifier for this unit but kept my floor standing Morden Shaw speakers with some hesitation. Originally I bought a Denon M41 and I was impressed with the sound quality for the price. The unit I bought had a mechanical fault and I took it back. Richer Sound staff persuaded me that the Melody was a better device and I took it instead. The looks of the Melody were less impressive than the Denon, being rather plasticky in comparison with the sturdy metal box of the Denon. On listening it at home the sound was about the same as the Denon for starters, but improved significantly when I bi-wired the speakers. I believe the double amp gives the Melody the edge. On the minus side the menu is a nightmare. I mostly use the unit as power amp for my Quad preamp and turntable and the output is palpably better than my previous MOSFET power amps. Very pleased indeed.
Bought this as a replacement for a broken Denon unit. The Marantz is a good looking unit, and the sound is very good, better than the defunct Denon. The reception on fm and DAB is much clearer and now receiving and holding a stereo signal. No need to upgrade the aerial which I thought I may have to do. Internet radio is still new so can’t comment too much. Streaming is really good, better than I thought it would be. All in all a very good purchase, however it is expensive. Would recommend.
This unit is a massive improvement on the Marantz MCR 603 that it replaced. One of the reasons I bought this unit was that it could play tracks from a USB stick randomly, which the MCR 603 couldn't. However, to my disappointment I found out the unit's 'Queue' can only take 300 tracks. Hence, the unit can only play at random from 300 tracks out of the over 2600 I have on my USB stick. My workaround is copying all the tracks to a microSD card in my phone and have the app VLC Player select from all the tracks on the microSD card at random and play through Marantz unit using the Bluetooth facility.Otherwise, I am very happy with the unit.

The 6-year warranty on the Marantz Melody X was an added bonus! Thanks Richer Sounds. Right now, I cannot think of any other retailer in recent history that's so good at what they do.
