So versatile, instant stock for whatever in seconds. Bangers and mash onion gravy, stock to reheat leftover stew in (45 mins in the oven), stock to cook rice in, etc., etc.. Recommended by Nigella in How to Eat as a kitchen cupboard essential - she was spot on. Careful though, it is quite salty, if using then your dish may need only a little extra salt or even none at all.

This was my childhood stock memory - and now it's my own children's, too. We put a little in the water for couscous, we roast wild salmon with an eggcupful of stock made with Marigold so it doesn't dry out, and we poach in it. No, it's not the same as properly made from scratch... but who has time to do that yourself, or the money to use real stock for a quick midweek supper? For a little umami hit, and for adding depth of flavour when it matters, you really can't go wrong.

I use this a lot. Brilliant taste. Another customer claims it contains MSG. Rubbish. It took me less than 2 minutes to find this on Marigold's site - "The HVP...in Marigold Vegetable Bouillon does not contain any MSG". And the vegetable oil isn't hydrogenated, either. Also on their site. I'm very cautious about the ingredients in my food; I cook everything from scratch, even bread. But people hyperfocus on specific ingredients and reject a product - even chucking it in the bin - before taking just a little time to research the actual content. I don't doubt this product isn't as healthy or tasty as 'proper' bouillon but there are only so many hours in the day. I purchased this product today and am returning it tomorrow. I read the ingredients and they seemed acceptable. What I did not notice at the time was that the salt is 48.3g per 100g as provided, not in the list of ingredients but in the separate table on the other side of the container providing nutritional information. It looks like the salt is also basic quality using anticaking agents such as sodium aluminosilicate or magnesium carbonate. If it was really a health conscious product and it is after all being described as Organic, the salt content should be low, and also not standard table salt, but could be sea salt or Himalayan salt both of which have not been subjected to so much processing.
Marigold Bouillon Powder is a useful cupboard staple for quickly making flavoursome meat free stock for various dishes such as risotto and soup. However, there is a reduced salt version (still high in salt and no compromise in flavour) which I much prefer to use and I cannot understand why it is not stocked by Waitrose. For a friend, I would recommend the reduced salt version as opposed to this one.
I bought the organic bouillon as Ocado no longer seem to stock the 'ordinary' one (which I have been using for years). The organic version doesn't taste very nice (too salty as others have said in review) but also has an odd mix of flavours. Worse, it has a fluorescent green tinge which resulted in weird looking gravy and stock over the whole Christmas period. Ocado, please bring back the original and do not stock this organic version! I would not recommend at all.
I've used Marigold Bouillon for years and years to enhance soups, stews and risotto etc.It was wonderful. However, they seemed to have changed all their stocks to a vegan version and although the ingredients are very similar it simple doesn't taste the same at all.I don't like the new version, nor do my family. Why must everything now be 'vegan friendly'? Why can't they do two versions for those of us that prefer the original?Silly to get upset about a cooking ingredient, but actually feel sad about this. It was a staple in my kitchen.
After reading the reviews for this product I looked at the ingredients again and see that they source palm oil sustainably. Quote:? In order to protect the environment and the habitats of orang-utans, we only use palm oil which has been certified as sustainable by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil ? from their FAQs. They give a link you can follow to the RSPO. I personally am glad to have this product as it helps me with my reduced salt diet. It is tasty and healthier than salt ( I measure out my allowed portion per day)
I love this! It's what I used to buy in bulk in Switzerland whenever I visited family. It works well as a quick soup, in rice/pasta, omelette, veg, meat and fish, together with whatever other seasonings are to hand, eg. Herbamare (which can be bought in the UK, though not from Waitrose – a shame). As to those reviewers who complain about the salt content of Marigold: just use less and don't add extra salt.
This veg stock is perfect. Few simple ingredients, perhaps not perfect but definitely far better than the rest. And also if dont like dried red pepper in soups which lots of other brands have in. I dont want that taste in my butternut squash or carrot soup. It is best by far when looking at the list of ingredients. Other cheaper brands ingredients list starts with palm oil and all sorts of additives.
